Pick *my* next game...

Post by RunningMn9 »

So I just finished HL2, and now I need to decide what to play from the XMas 2004 bin.

I play anything and have no particular genre preference, other than to avoid playing MMOG, so Smoove_B can stick it if she wants to tell me to play City of Heros. No. SWG ruined me.

So what will it be folks?
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

Of those you've listed I have only played Thief DS and RTW, and they are both worth the purchase. But RTW has made it onto my top ten games of all time.

I voted for Thief: Deadly Shadows - natch. It had it's little problems (so many NPCs turned out to be contortionists when I ko'd them), and I would have like to have seen a lot more done with the climbing and rooftop stuff, but I still really liked it. But then, I'm a Thief fan.

Also in its favor, in case you find you're less of a fanboii than I, is that it's fairly short. And if nothing else, you should play into/through the Cradle level.

My initial thought was to go with R:TW. But there are two minor camps in my brain clamoring for T:DS and V:B. I just don't know.

Need more votes.

Hehe. "T:DS"

I vote Rome! I loved Vampire, but Rome beats it.

You just beAt a FPS, so you have to mix it up as not to get bored.

Give Battle for Middle Earth a go.

Or, skip them all and join me in City of Heroes. I'll sidekick you and make you my super-bitch.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Either Vampire or Thief. Flip a coin.
End of line.

I voted for R:TW just because I have it and feel guilty for not playing it yet. :D

Actually, I remember you mentioning in some other thread that NOLF2 was in your backlog- that would be my first choice (unless, of course, you haven't played NOLF1 yet, in which case that should be first). Great games! - I beat NOLF2 recently, and it was a ton of fun.

But apparently that's out since Smoove says that you can't play another FPS next. :P

Rome - one of my favorite games of all time after three months of solid playing.

(Just like Shogun and Medieval were until the next version came out and made a better game.)

3 months? Check back with RunningMan in 10 days to see if he's still playing it. :)

RM, I would recommend Rome above all the others except that the game, while fun, badly needs a patch. There are no gamebreaking problems, but there are alot of irritants that need fixing - and the patch is due out mid Jan according to CA. and based upon what I have read, it will fix many of the problems players see. So I would wait for the patch before playing. Hence my recommendation of Homeworld 2, a game that I really enjoyed considering that I usually don't like RTS games. Pause and order made the difference for me, plus I love the storytelling on HW.

Thanks for all the votes. I've decided to commit to Rome: Total War first, and began playing last night.

I think that the play list will be like this:

Rome: Total War
Vampire: Bloodlines
Battle for Middle Earth
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Pacific Fighters
Homeworld 2

I don't know what to do after that. But I'll figure that out when I get there. :)
