Axis & Allies Online 1942 - any good?
Saw Isg pop up playing this on Steam. Steam reviews for the negative ones make it sound sucky interface and AI.
Anyone have any further comments?
Went and found TripleA for some A&A style time killing for now.

Technically, it's still early access.
I've been playing it for a few days with a HS buddy, and the UI isn't the most intuitive, but I've been able to figure out any difficulties that I've run across so far.

A&A was the one board game I wore out in college. Never could get my son into it, just takes so long to play. I've bought every electronic version over the years but it's just not the same as playing a human face to face.
But I plan on getting this one also.

The computer plays more quickly than any human opponent ever, and all MP games have a 24-hour turn timer.

The computer is fast, but the AI is usually severely lacking.
Might be fun to get an OO game going so I can get my butt kicked by capable players. Or find out I'm better than I guessed.

I saw Isg playing it too! He's such an influencer.
I'd be up for an OO game. A neighbor and I have been playing A&A Global for awhile, which is a blast but takes forever. Not sure what the deal is with A&A 1942 - I think it has artillery but doesn't have tactical bombers? - but it should be fun either way.

1942 Rules
A selection of unit differences that I've noticed from the old MB version we played in the 90s.

I still have my original copy of Axis and Allies from around 1985 I think. It was brand new then. I lost my computer here awhile back and played it then. Still in good shape.

I still have my original from that time with the original rules before they started having more editions.

Axis & Allies Online 1942 - any good?
I bought a replacement original A&A to sit on top of Fortress America — the only game I tried to play multiple times but always had someone toss the board.

I liked Fortress America almost as much as A&A. Still have it too.

A&A was our college board game. Didn’t hurt that we had two warmongers willing to be the Evil Germans and Japs. They played the role to the hilt, trying out crazy new strategies while the rest of us cycled through the Allies to varying degrees of competence.

Well, if all of you buy it, and we get Bakhtosh involved, we can have a grand old group replaying WWII until the sun goes dark.

I have almost all the MB Gamemaster series
Axis & Allies, Fortress America, Conquest of the Empires, Broadsides and Boarding Parties (my kids and I wore this game out),
Shogun is the other I wanted but never got.

$20 is a lot for Early Access for me. I'll add it to my watchlist, though, and when it goes back down I'll likely get it. (Or I may just break down if everyone else gets it - stupid forum effect.)

Re: Axis & Allies Online 1942 - any good?
It was just on sale for $10 in the last couple weeks.
Almost got it then, hadn't seen Isg playing then. If he'd only popped up as playing then, I'd have asked then. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Anyone tried it MP yet? This a PBEM or something where we'd all need to be logged in at the same time? All at the same time might be a challenge for a game that may well run several hours?

It's all turn-based on their servers with a 24-hour timer and an e-mail reminder.

Re: Axis & Allies Online 1942 - any good?
Sounds sort of like how we used to play the Dominion game (except it was an OO member's PC set up as a server for the game). That'd work. 24 hour timer would pretty much enforce 1 turn per day minimum (though I suppose if it's going in sequence, I have 24 hours, than Isg has 24 hours than whoever has 24 hours...). Woe to those who don't pay attention or forget.
Anyhow, that's a format that would work for me personally.
Now, are we waiting for the next sale or are we getting it now and getting started?
And why didn't anyone make Fortress America into a PC game?

Count me in on some multiplayer PBEM action! I don't have it yet but will definitely buy if there is group consensus.

Is it too late to get in on this?
Played the crap out of A&A in high school / college until my box fell apart after multiple tape jobs.
EDIT: Bought it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's nothing to say that a person can't be on more than one PBEM game, right? This is for folks who may want to join in later after the first game is running.

I have the game, i went and checked my library. I'll play some single player games and see what rule set is being used before I decide to join the next game. I am so used to 1st edition rules and played some 2nd edition.
