6 points thrown away so far, we'll see if it comes back to bite the Lions.

There’s a fine line between being aggressive on 4th down and just making dumb decisions.

Gonna cost the Lions this game.

Ya they should have kicked both field goals. Gave up all the momentum.

Greg Olson the announcer said you can't blame Dan Campbell for the outcomes. He's been going for it on 4th down all year. In fact they're in the playoffs because of it.

I disagree. You had a chance to go up by 3 scores. Instead you're only up by 2 scores when you don't convert the 4th down play. All the momentum is gone. The crowd is back in the game. And a couple freaky, unusual plays later you're tied. Then you go for it again on 4th down when you could have tied it. Instead you're still behind. Dan Campbell and the Lions had a great year, but Dan lost this game for his team. Bad coaching calls on 2 critical scoring opportunities. I hope they get another chance next season.

I'm happy for Brock Purdy though.

Of course, they did take that FG at the end of the half - and perhaps that's what cost them the game?

Going for it didn’t cost him. Reynolds dropping a pass that hit him in the hands on 4th and 2 cost. Then dropping another on 3rd and ten that would have been a 1st down on the very next drive cost the Lions.

Yeah, the second half case of the dropsies (including the bomb to Aiyuk) killed the Lions.

I agree that they they should have kicked the FG to go up 3 scores in the 3rd quarter, but yeah, that's what got them there.

At half, I was thinking, well, at least I don't really mind losing to the Lions if we're going to lose. I did not see the Niners almost pitching a shutout in the second half.

Live by the gamble. Die by the gamble. It felt like the game was going to turn the second they opted to not go back up by three scores half way through the 3rd and then didn't convert. At the same time, going for it is what they do, so... We'll see what happens next year, where hopefully they improve on pass defense... and get a lot of new coaching staff.

Goff was throwing nearly every ball with too much heat. He was too excited for his own arm.

I haven’t watched a lot of Ravens games this season, but I’ve seen enough to know that Lamar is one of the best running QB’s.

Why did it seem like he was almost fighting the urge to do what he does do well? So many times he was sitting back in the pocket, waiting and waiting ti spot an open receiver and not seeing anything, but had open space immediately in front of him. He runs 9/10 times in previous situations like that…usually getting an absurd number of yards.

It was almost like someone told him ‘don’t fucking run!!!’ I don’t get it, but again with disclaimer that I’ve maybe seen 2-3 Ravens games this season (but lots of highlights of course).

I will say that having listened some to Brady's podcast and to assorted other interviews with him, I've been impressed with his presentation abilities so far, so I think he'll do a decent job. That said, it'd be nice if they could find a way to use both Olsen and Brady.

I seemed to recall that he said he is making the decision to run about 1 second too late which led to the sacks or small gains.

It was almost like he wanted to prove he could win passing and not having to run all the time...

I agree with that.
Yet he didn't have a top running season when he won the SB. He learned to sit his ass in the pocket and pass. None of the top 10 rushing seasons for QBs are champion seasons. Young isn't even a top-10 rushing QB.

Rumor has it he's asking for $16M per season to jump to HC. This (big) ask bodes well for him thinking he can continue to bolster his resume next season in Detroit. Right?

(Sadly, the only owner I can see ponying up this kind of number is Jerry Jones...)

That's Jim Harbaugh money in Chargers. He's not going to make the same as Jim...

They kept showing him during the 49ers-Lions game in the first half when he was absolutely dismantling us. Every time they cut to him, he was shaking his head in disgust and disappointment. I couldn't figure him out. Wonder what he expressing in the 2nd half :P

Wow. No posts in over a week during the Super Bowl run up?

Thoughts:

I think this game is solidly on the Niner's Offense and how it performs against KC's stingy defense. I think Purdy & Co will need to go for over 30 to win this game, as the Niner defense has been pretty suspect this year, IMHO.

If the Niners win, it will be Deebo and McCaffrey making huge plays, IMHO.

If the Niners's offense sputters, I think Kelce and Pacheco will have carved up the Niners defense. For whatever reason, despite knowing that Kelce is the guy who will kill you, nobody can take him away.

That said, I do think this is a revenge game for the Niners, and they appear to have talent edges in the matchups at almost all areas (which, of course, Mahomes can blow up, because, well, he's Mahomes and you can't ever count him out).

Niners 34-24.

I'm gonna go contra on this one, though the line of SF -1.5 is basically a pick 'em. I say a defensive struggle: 49ers 16 Chiefs 23.

49ers win. 28-24. Purdy wins a super bowl, throws for 300 and 2 tds, runs for a couple key firsts on 3rd, wins the Super Bowl MVP. Colin Cowherd still wont shut up about how mid Purdy is and how he's getting carried by the talent and coaching. Then he'll name 20 QBs he thinks are better than Purdy using only NFL combine numbers as "proof".
