The Password Game

Post by Zaxxon »

This game sucks, and is incredibly fun. And terrible, and frustrating. And cool.

https://neal.fun/password-game/

Farthest I've made it is rule 20.

Once it asked me for today's wordle answer, I decided it was going to be too much work and not enough fun.

I made it to Rule 20 yesterday. I'm curious what's next, but I'm not sure I want to start all over again...

That was my reaction at that point.

I got as far as rule 16. I don't have time to learn how to solve chess problems this morning.

Quite a scavenger hunt.

How am I expected to get the roman numerals to multiply to 35 when I have to include a capital C? Roman decimals?

/edit - Ah.
Spoiler:
Proper names don't require capitals, and lower case letters aren't roman numerals

Why you need capital C?

Says the editor. Because it asked me for a place name, dammit!

Asking because I got caught up on the same thing, and you do not. Or I did not. Tis a password, not a publication.

And crashed on rule 16.
Spoiler:
I don't know chess well enough to be able to be able to figure out the best move (I haven't played a game of chess in 30+ years), nor do I know chess notation (I've never needed to record a chess match.) I dislike that rule - every other one so far has been reasoning based, while this one requires that the player have a very specific skill that not everybody has.

Best move is easy, figuring the notation for it... :P

You'll know you got it right when you enter it and it tells you it's an illegal move... because the notation is wrong.

I used to watch Password in the mornings in the early 80s. Then Super Password came out making it harder for contestants.

I remembered, cheated past the chess problem, carried on until I completed rule 19. Then the password burned down? And Paul died? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I cheesed that. There was a monument right next to the starting point, and I fed the inscription into Google translate to identify the language, which gave me the country.

My map scene had a distinctive piece of architecture that narrowed down the possibilities to a certain region. I started with the big names from that region and hit it on my second guess.
Spoiler:
It was China.

Mine also burned down at 20. I didn't see any option to stop it. At least not that I could understand quick enough.

The chess move, as with the country photo, changes each run.

Spoiler:
Click on the flames until they go out and then rebuild. They don't restart after you extinguish them all. If you want to do another run (I didn't) then you could copy and paste at 18. I was willing to play google hunt for non evident solutions until like 23 or 4 or 5. I forget which. Feeding the chicken worms? No. I remember it was find a youtube video link with a specific time stamp. I think I googled a the name from the geolocator, the current phase of the moon, the wordle answer, a chess solution, and element numbers.

phase of the moon and wordle will change though not for each run

Edit: I just googled the solution. I was pretty close to the "fuck this shit I'm out" rule 27 and the idea of amending my password again and again after 27, nope. Link to solution spoiler below.

That isn't the chess solution that worked for me, so it's possible that not everyone gets the same problem. The geoguesser solution that Blackhawk posted was also different from the one I had.

And I also missed that you posted the exact same thing. :coffee:

I got the chess solution but the CAPTCHA plus the 8 in the chess answer add up to 31. How do I get a total of all numbers to equal 25? I tried adding negative numbers but it ignores the sign.
