That's a good hire by the Panthers, Reich wasn't the problem in Indy. NFC South is now wide open.

The 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27 and ends on Saturday, April 29. The first round will take place on Thursday, with rounds two and three on Friday and the last four on Saturday.

ESPN
The Las Vegas Raiders released Derek Carr on Tuesday after the veteran quarterback declined to waive his no-trade clause and just before more than $40 million of his contract would have become guaranteed.

"We wish the @Raiders the best of luck," Carr's agent, Tim Younger, said in a tweeted statement. "This is the tough part of this business. That's the point; it's just business. Time now to reset for both sides. Derek chooses to hold on to many good memories and friendships, without any ill will. That's who he is. Onward and upward."

I hope the Texans are. There have been threats of riots in the streets if they don't pick a quarterback in the first round. I presume that's hyperbole, but these days you never know.

At the 21st pick the Chargers grab Quinton Johnston of TCU, a huge wide receiver and only the second WR to come off the Board.

I hope Dalton Kincaid from Utah is worth it. And nice to see a Texas Tech player go in the top 10 (Tyree Wilson to the Raiders).

That was a big splash. I saw the Daniel Jeremiah mock draft with that scenario yesterday and wrote it off as a pipe dream. Some analysts are claiming the move up from 12 to 3 was too expensive, but down here it feels like turning the page from all the chaos of the past few years. The new coach has offensive and defensive cornerstones to build around both as a team and a locker room culture. The fans are excited and the team has hope of being competitive again. Now we just need some nice boring building blocks for the rest of the draft.

On the surface, it's a weird pick to me. They just extended Dawson Knox long term.

They really needed to improve at the slot WR position, but the run right before they went ended that. Many evaluators have Kincaid as a Top 10 talent, and the best receiving TE in the draft. So it's a receiving weapon. But it will rely on Ken Dorsey being able to figure out what to do with him. I'm less optimistic about that.

Bears after Day 1:

RT Darnell Wright - good pick, Wright played in the nation's top college conference (at Tennessee) and allowed only 8 QB pressures and 0 (zero) sacks in 892 snaps. Fields needed this, as he was the most sack QB in the league's history.

But we actually have more to show than just that one draft.

Bears started with the number 1 pick, traded down, and received: WR DJ Moore, 9th pick, 61st pick, 2024 1st round, and 2025 2nd round -- and then also Bears got a 2024 4th round pick by swapping spots with the Eagles.

People seem very positive about the Patriots day 1. They traded down (getting a fourth round pick) and got a cornerback who apparently was expected to go in the top 10. Obviously everyone is eager for the Patriots to finally get some good news for a change, so great news for everyone.

Hate to say it, but the Pats nailed it with Gonzalez. I think he’s going to be a solid CB in the NFL.

Eagles also killed it!

Jalen Carter at 9 is a potential home run, and Nolan Smith at 30 is a steal. The general consensus was that the Eagles would draft Smith . . . but at 10. That they got Carter at 9 AND Smith at 30 is unreal.

Adding to the positive draft day vibes in Philly, AZ got tagged for tampering for in connection with their hiring of Gannon, and the resolution was that Philly and AZ swapped third round picks:
The Cardinals swapped the No. 66 pick in the 2023 draft for the Philadelphia Eagles' No. 94 pick and a 2024 fifth-round selection, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
All in all, good day to be an Eagles fan!

The Eagles draft is stupid. That they’ve been allowed to draft the entire defensive line from that GA national championship team is insane.

I just can't bring myself to care this much about the draft. I'm only really interested in what the Bears do and what Michigan players get drafted, but I'm certainly not interested enough to tune in to a minute of draft coverage. My phone pings me when one of these events happen.

And now that the media in Chicago has been obsessing about the draft ever since the Bears locked up the first overall pick, the front page of the Chicago Tribune sports section today is completely dedicated to cover the selection of an OT at number 10. How exciting!

Last I checked, there were 31 other teams who could be stopping them . . . :D

Next up, we move on to raiding the Bulldogs secondary. Hello, Kelee Ringo! Or maybe we tap a Georgia RB? Deandre Swift in Eagles green could be a nice look.

Unrelated question. The over/under on the Pats total wins this season is 7.5, which makes me want to bet everything I have on the under. Am I missing something?
