It was more than that. They also attempted to address the stupidity of their change to the Klingons, they stopped being so damn nihilistic and remembered that hope and humanity were the biggest draw of Star Trek, and they made a Tribble the captain of his own tiny ship.

….that last one might just be fan fiction I wrote.

As long as that tiny ship was the USS Quadrotriticale we're good.

Okay, season finale…
Spoiler:
At first I was disappointed as they’ve covered Freaky Friday, Aliens and what appeared at first to be A Christmas Carol. But they pulled a good story out of it, and it ended up being a pretty dang good episode. Although I’ve always been partial to the “submarines at war” stories in Star Trek. And the details on plasma weapons was straight out of Starfleet Battles.

Ethan Peck nailed the Spock mannerisms especially well in this one. The actor playing James Kirk was…well….okay, I guess. It was kind of needless this early to introduce him, but it wasn’t horrible. Just kind of annoying. Plus, the actor looks like he weighs a buck thirty. Our Kirk ain’t no featherweight, dagnabit.
So yeah, enjoyable finale. However, I’m still not impressed with the quality of the season overall. They need to find their own voice and stop with the warmed over remakes of other stories.

P.S. why the hell was the ship’s doctor in the tactical room in this episode?

Same reason Bones was in "Balance of Terror," whatever that was ;)

I always envisioned Bones just going wherever the hell he wanted to. It was obvious nobody could tell him what to do anyway.

To be honest if they had done this and not Discovery and Picard I'd have been very happy.

The doc is in the briefing room because in the Balance of Terror McCoy is the only one who calls for peace.

From what Ive seen in videos they have really really nailed the sound and atmosphere. The sound effects are TOS amazing along with the music. The background sounds alone are above anything else.

I mean, it's the same art direction, style, sound, etc. as Discovery. The only difference is that they've made it a bit more episodic in story execution. But even then the stories are still linked together quite often by past episodes/situations (see season finale and Number One).

Even Picard season 1 I liked ok, albeit with some "huh?" moments.

It's season 2 that was a giant steaming turd.

So, yeah - I just finished season 1, and I really enjoyed it. Although I did take a break partway into a certain episode to go re-watch a certain episode of The Original Series before continuing (and I was glad I did.)

I also really enjoyed the casting and characters with the exception of
Spoiler:
Kirk. The actor just didn't have the same spirit as the original, something that the achieved with the other recast characters.

Just started Paramount again today and watched S4E1 of Discovery and S2E1 of Picard. I've read that Picard is a train wreck so my expectations are very low, but the first episode was saved by John Delancy and I want more Q. Alison Pill, however, still doesn't belong in ST, and the captain who never lights a cigar just makes me sad.

Q isn't in it very much. He's played more like a framing device. I think he's in it a total of 3-4 times during the season. As for Allison Pill, it only gets worse.

I was so extremely disappointed by the end of Q's story. :(

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Since they never felt the need to explain why Q, an extremely powerful and long lived…if not immortal…being, suddenly was dying; I took it upon myself to make up the backstory on that whole thing, You see, he was at his Uncle T’s farm and he stepped on a nail. He was dying of tetanus, the kryptonite of his people.

Did I ever mention how effing stupid season 2 of Picard was?

…cause it was pretty effing stupid.

Well, if your problem with Alison Pill's character was that she never ate car batteries in a 21st century Los Angeles parking lot, don't worry, that gets resolved.

What they need to do is create a mini series or full on series with Harry Mudd.

A series that follows him and his women around as they sell pans to sand miners and hit up taverns filled with opportunities for profit. Kirk is like Biff..always bullying Mudd and messing up deals.

I heard that next up is a buddy comedy starring Diana Muldaur and Brent Spiner - Star Trek: Pulaski! These two who'd-a-thunk-it BFFs explore life in the fast lane of Starfleet Medical. Come for another extremely old main character, stay for the hijinks as Dr. KP and DAT-uh keep the studio audience rolling in situational comedy storylines where no man has gone before.

I think at Patrick Stewart's age they should pair him with Ian McKellen. They are friends in real life so pair them up as The Oddballs and have Ian be Gandalf and Patrick be Picard and they travel the verse and visit bars and try new foods and saunas and such. All the while telling stories as if they are old friends that they really are..

It was just an homage to classic scifi.

What sucks is when they inadvertently leave the transporter setting to "evil twin".
