Re: Homeworld 3
The intro to the first game stands alone as the best open to a game that I’ve ever seen, with the most haunting version of one of the saddest compositions ever composed.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

The sound design, audio production, and music composition for Homeworld were phenomenal (I still enjoy listening to EAC FLACs I ripped who-knows-how-long-ago from the soundtrack that came bundled with the Game of the Year Edition of Homeworld).

Oh hell yes. I honestly don't think I ever finished the damn game, but holy crap do I love it. I really love the "capture as many ships as I can" minigame, and by the later stages I almost don't have any room to make any more frigates because I've got a couple dozen already Borg-ed into my fleet.

Maybe they are waiting for those that played HW1 and HW2 to die off so they wont be disapointed with HW3.

Do you play multiplayer? If not, it has zero value. It's only multiplayer content, and they've said that they have no plans to expand the single player.

Been out of touch, had no idea this was even in development until Steam dropped it in front of me and said it would be available in 3 hours. Purchased sight unseen, really. No research, no trailers, no dialog, no reviews. Just the images on the store page and the game's title.
I'm going in completely blind, hoping this title lives up to the name. I'm irritated that I have to work until close tonight.

Re: Homeworld 3
Is it the same as all the rest? If so Ill have to pass. Homeworld games are games I want to play and enjoy but theres so much going on in a 3D space with the turning of the map and stuff I get over whelmed very quick and give up. Im great at all the other land based games like C&C and Warcraft. But put me in space and my shoe becomes my eye and my laces my helmet. It just doesn't go well for me.
Ever since the 90s these games are to me beautiful games, with beautiful voiced plot points and wonderful music that I can roll up a big fleet of what I think I need that I dont then die.

Re: Homeworld 3
I wouldn't call it "Netflix Garbage" but it's not on par with the rest of the series. That's for sure. They absolutely could have done a better wind up to "why" you're out there and leaving. Instead it's "This is a cool ship. RED ALERT. This thing we never mentioned that's been happening everywhere is happening again. We should go look for this previous character from the series that wasn't mentioned before now as being important in any way. Go!"
I did avoid reviews until after my first couple of hours, and I think a lot of the negativity is coming from people who were following development closely and feel like the developers dropped the ball on promises. I'm coming in with a fresh perspective and think the gameplay is great. It's just lacking in motive and could have been written better.
My biggest concern is that reviewers are saying the game is only like 15 hours long. For $60 I'd expect 30+ hours.
It plays identically to the prior ones with some control differences. I think they smoothed things out a little in being able to observe and rotate the camera more quickly, but otherwise very, very similar.

Re: Homeworld 3
From a comment on Steam (I have not separately validated any of this):
Starting off, has Denuvo.
Absolutely insane EULA/terms/privacy policy.
Some nuggets:
They give themselves license to collect data like:
- first/last name
- e-mail address
- residential address
- telephone number
- photographic images (if uploaded by user)
- credit card information, if provided to their third-party payment processors for purchases
- shipping information, if provided for purchases
- country
- game device identifier
- screen name
- demographic information (age, gender, date of birth, marital status, race, level of education, etc.), if you choose to provide it in profiles, surveys or forums, such as an application to become one of their playtesters
Some of these are obviously less reasonable than others. There's no opt out to data gathering in general.
They also say they might grab your MAC-address.
They directly partner with Facebook and Google (so sharing data), so enjoy expanding upon the giant porfolio they got about your personal life.

Re: Homeworld 3
When I fired it up, the game asked if it could go online through my firewall. I was disinclined. The game launched normally despite not being allowed to call home. I assume that means they don't get to poll me for data. At least, no more than Steam collects anyway.
From the Steam copy of the Gearbox EULA (not Homeworld; any game they release):

Any personal information, including photos and video, that you disclose in public areas of our Online Services, such as on a message board, chat room, comment field, or profile page, will be in the public domain and is not subject to privacy protections. Even if it were later removed, other users would have had access to it and could have read, collected, copied, and otherwise used it without your consent or knowledge. If your screen name contains your real name or email address, that information will be made publicly available on leaderboards and elsewhere. Ultimately, you are responsible for any information or content you post using our Online Services, but we strongly discourage you from disclosing any personal information in public areas.
E-mail Correspondence: We may provide e-mail addresses or forms to which you can send us questions or comments, or which you can use to request customer support. In the process of receiving and responding to such requests, we may collect personal information about you, such as your e-mail address, other contact information you provide, or any other personal information contained in the body of your e-mail message. We only use the information for the purpose of responding to your questions and/or comments or to provide customer support and otherwise improve our products and Online Services. In most cases, your message is deleted immediately after we’ve resolved your inquiry; however, in some instances, copies of your requests may be kept on file for our records, for legal and/or quality control purposes, or to provide ongoing support services you have requested. If we obtain actual knowledge that the person with whom we’re communicating is a child (as defined under applicable law), we promptly delete the child’s e-mail address and messages, except where we are required to retain it under applicable law.
In addition to responding to your email correspondence and sending you information you have requested via our email lists, we send activation emails and other transactional emails to your e-mail address as necessary. If you do not wish to receive such messages, you have the option to deactivate your account.
Again - all Gearbox titles have this apply to them. Homeworld is not the exception or a test bed for data harvesting.

Sure. But if I read that a company wants to be free to use and collect my: (list) then I tend to back off.
Am I exposed elsewhere, I'm sure. This is just my laziest way to make some attempt to keep it to a minimum. Perhaps I'd be more tempted if the game wasn't getting Mixed reviews.

I'm still on the ropes. I played it 20 years ago and played the remaster last June 2023. Green Man Gamming does have each edition 22% off.
It seems they have dropped the ball. They have taken so much away instead of adding more. Maybe waiting is best when the modders have fixed it.
The reviews are really starting to kill it. was 33/66 now getting closer to 50/50.

Re: Homeworld 3
I just read through that EULA bit quoted above.
Nearly everything on it is qualified with if you choose to do so. They collect your address and phone number if you choose to make a purchase that requires shipping. They collect your demographic information if you choose to fill out a survey that includes it. They collect system information if you choose to contact support. They collect your name and email address if you choose to register for their 'Shift' giveaway platform. All of that makes sense - they can't really ship you a product without your address, and getting system information (like a DXDiag report) is going to give them information about your system.
The rest is just boilerplate EULA/privacy notice junk.
Is it bullshit? Sure. But I don't think it's beyond the bullshit that lands behind every EULA out there if you take the time to read them all.

Denuvo is the coup de grace, as it only serves to harm legitimate users, while it's merely a matter of time until pirates get a version without its performance-degrading and intrusive negative effects…

I don’t remember. I only had a digital copy. I’ve emailed Gearbox but not heard a thing back.
Edit - I just got an email from Gearbox, they want a copy of an email, a receipt or screenshot for proof! That was in 2019 and I told them there’s no way I have any of that, the Fig campaign was 5 years ago in 2019. All they should need to verify is my email address.

I understand your frustration. Having to dig up documentation from a crowdfunding campaign that took place five years ago is a tall order. Have you tried contacting Republic, the company that acquired Fig, to see if they can help provide you with suitable proof?Grifman wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:14 pmI don’t remember.
