I think it is automatic when the margin of victory is <.5%.
I don't think that a full hand recount is automatic under those circumstances.

I think an audit (which takes samples of ballots and looks for systematic problems) is mandated under the law, not a full recount.

I believe that he was required to do an audit on at least one race. He picked the presidential race (which makes sense), and basically just said as long as we have to audit / sample it, let's just do a full hand recount. Which seems at least defensible, though as I've said I worry about pressure on him from within his party to put a thumb on the scale here.

Certification in Georgia is on the 20th. Are they really going to be able to manually count millions of ballots in 7 days? It took them almost that long to just scan all the ballots...

My local TV station has a headline on it's website from the AP:

"Trump wins NC, hits 232 electoral votes"

This is true, but seems to miss the bigger point.

So this whole statistics prove that Dominion flipped votes thing sure sounds like fuzzy math to me, just sayin'! :ninja:

I mean seriously, has anyone even seen their math? The few times I've tried to dig into what they are even claiming as evidence, I can't even find methods or much else to try and repeat their analysis. Are there more recent stories I've missed that outline their evidence on Dominion so we can at least test it ourselves to see if there's any fire?

Those weren't even their real names.
[The ships’] original names were la Santa Clara, la Pinta, and la Santa Gallega.

As was common of the time, the crews gave each ship nicknames. La Santa Clara became la Niña (“the girl”); la Pinta became la Pintada (“the painted one,” in other words, “the prostitute”); and la Santa Gallega became Maria Galante (the name of another prostitute). The church censored these nicknames, but the way we remember them today borrows heavily from the crews’ vernacular.

I just see a lot of lawyers making a lot of money right now. Rudy? Nothing to worry about. He's who you hire when you want to go home and say; "I tried".

Sidney Powell and Lin Wood - much more dangerous creatures - they are who you hire when you want to go home and say; "We don't live in this dump anymore, pack up". Again, all of these creatures bill by the hour. They would probably help me sue the full moon for not granting my wishes for 2k/hr Partner rates (+ expenses).

Latest rumors are that in GA Trump is actually down a few hundred votes in the recount (justice?) from where he has been by area. Binden too - maybe by even more. Jo Jo. seems to be the only real benefactor of that recount (unless Biden looses too many, I guess). I think they will quickly finish the count and unless Biden loses a lot of votes we may not see any more recounts. If Biden loses tens of thousands of votes in GA - this will trigger a string of recounts/re canvasing/audits in every swing state (certification notwithstanding because Powell and Rudy will argue its clear evidence of massive vote manipulation). GA is ideally suited for a fast recount with so many counties with small populations.

I don't really think PA could do a full hand recount at all (if they had to). I'm not so sure that PA can even comply with the new date cut-off court order (if they have separated the ballots from the envelopes (a thing you need/want for anonymity of the voter) how do you ever put them together again?).

I don't put any stock in the fan boy talk about raid on a server in Germany. This is a trail of bread crumbs leading to nowhere, in my opinion.

The only thing that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand out right now is Trump's complete silence (aside from vaccine back-patting). If Mr. Wood actually got the POTUS to stop Tweeting - that should be scary to everyone since it has never been done before (as most of you know: Judges DO NOT ENJOY reading about business before their benches in Twitter). It could be taken as a sign that they think they have REAL court cases with legal merit and therefore are not "trying things in the public media" as per his M.O.

GA helped turn the tide on Trumpism, but they are sending two GOP senators in January. That it’s these two GOP senators is offensive, but GA isn’t ready to really do the right thing.

Democratic senatorial candidates didn't do as well as Biden, and since Biden barely won GA, I'm not very optimistic that we can win one election, let alone both.

But maybe there's a slight chance that without Trump at the top of the ticket, maybe Republicans will have lower turnout than Democrats?

I think that’s the key. Dems have generally done pretty well in special elections and the mid-terms when Trump isn’t on the ticket. His name brings out massive support. Run-offs draw fewer voters so my main hope is that Dems can really turn out the vote in January.

Maybe! Also possible that this whole "the election is rigged" thing might not help the Republican base turnout.

HOWEVER, Biden barely won Georgia, and I strongly suspect that a non-trivial number of voters will say "hey, might as well have a Republican Senate as a check on Democrats!".

So overall I think the odds that Democrats win both Senate races is maybe ~ 20% - 25%.

I agree the odds are low, but if Stacey Abrams manages to deliver one senator from Georgia, the Dems should put her in charge of the party, and if she delivers both, they should make her a saint.

I think Georgia Democrats are very excited to feel their power, and I don't think that's going to wear off in a few weeks.

But they're up against the headwinds of voter suppression and a GOP that sees everything on the line here, so it's not going to be a fair fight.

When it comes down to the candidates themselves, it's hard not to see this as a race between two pretty inspiring Dem newcomers and two financially corrupt McConnellites carrying Trump's baggage. And Georgia is no longer a state that decides by culture war alone.

I'm all for having hope, but I can't muster it. Short of Trump turning his cultists on the GOP, I don't see it happening. Warnock only led because the GOP vote was split. Voters for Purdue obviously didn't care that he's a corrupt pile of garbage. I think Ossoff has a better chance, but it's not a great chance.
