It's been hovering around $3.00 a gallon for awhile in Portland with a pretty wide variance - I've seen stations as high as $3.20

Lowest in the state is $2.79

I'm just seeing local gas stations now flirting with $2.99 a gallon prices. I'm guessing this means it's well over $3 on average in NJ and that we're in for a painful summer.

Newsweek
The continuing rise of gasoline prices is affecting people's travel plans, with many saying they are put off by the idea of taking a road trip this summer as the national average moves closer to the $3 per gallon mark, according to a survey.

For the second week running, average gas prices in all 50 U.S. states increased, with the national average now at $2.93 and estimated to rise again to $2.95 by Memorial Day.
...
According to AAA Daily Fuel Gauge, the average cost has jumped 12 cents over the past 14 days, and six cents since last Monday (May 14). The current national average of $2.93 per gallon is the highest price point going into the busy Memorial Day weekend period since 2014, when the average price was $3.65.

I am paying over $3.50 here in the great state of California, where in their ultimate wisdom the democrats decided we needed higher gas taxes and higher auto registration fees this year. I imagine there will be places here selling gas for over $4 by the middle of summer.

I paid a steady $3.10 per gallon across 5 states during my just-concluded vacation. (IL, IN, OH, PA, NY). I had a flex fuel car but only one gas station of the dozen or more I stopped in carried E85.

How much was the E85 at that station compared to ordinary gas? I've read that since you get much worse mpg using flex fuel, from just a moneysaving standpoint you need it to be quite a bit cheaper per gallon for it to turn into a less expensive option.

MPG. Due to ethanol's lower energy content, FFVs operating on E85 get roughly 15% to 27% fewer miles per gallon than when operating on regular gasoline, depending on the ethanol content. Regular gasoline typically contains about 10% ethanol.

Cost. The cost of E85 relative to gasoline or E10 can vary due to location and fluctuations in energy markets. E85 is typically cheaper per gallon than gasoline but slightly more expensive per mile.
...
Availability. More than 2,800 filling stations in the U.S. sell E85. Visit the Alternative Fueling Station Locator for service station locations.

$2.25 /gal. Driving on the tank of E85 was exclusively non-stop interstate. I would really have liked to drop it off at Hertz with a full tank of E85, but I had no time to look around for it. It seems so ubiquitous at the stations I normally frequent it didn't occur to me that it was actually pretty rare.

Part of the justification of the Tesla was the gas that I wouldn't have to buy and that I could charge for free at work. I can no longer charge for free at work and gas is basically being given away for free. Oops. At least the car is still a blast to drive.

Accounting for my purchase price and 6 years of gas, a standard Tesla 3 is still $3k more.

Almost certainly my next car purchase.
