I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are the teachers to blame? Most of them, no. Are the schools? No. It's the policies that direct the schools to direct the teachers that are teaching knowledge designed to pass tests, taught using techniques that facilitate quick memorization, but result in quick loss afterward.

I knew back then Id never use diagramming sentences in the future yet was forced to do them. So much taught is not used. Its more a jack of all trades kinda education....a whole lot of stuff but nothing deep unless you go to college then choose the courses.

You're spot-on. It's a public policy issue.

I wonder how many kids that went to school with vocational, music and art programs ended up working in a certain trade because of it.
I know I did.
Yet those are the classes being cut most.

While I share some of your frustration, we're not taught to diagram sentences because someone thought we'd have to do it in the future. Some knowledge is foundational.
