What was amazing about this video isn't the pinpoint city delivery, although that's cool, but the segment is Rwanda where they are doing medical deliveries by drone in 15 minutes instead of the 4 hour drive by car.

I thought the fact of it's existance might be of interest to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans around here. I knew that the games are based on the novel Roadside Picnic, but I didn't know until today there was also a 1979 Soviet film based on it as well.

I watched the STALKER movie. On DVD. The only time I've ever had to flip a DVD. Plus, I didn't look at the time prior to starting. And it was a work night. I was very tired the next day.

I believe that there were actually a couple of STALKER movies. But... I think the first one got lost/burned/something. So they re-filmed, kind of. Apparently it wasn't really the same movie.

Oh, and most of the actors ended up dying from cancer. They were filming around water that was highly contaminated from factory output.

At least, those are my recollections.

Yeah, the wiki article for the film details the troubled production, including substantial reshoots and the fact that several cast/crew members died of cancers that were allegedly caused by shooting in contaminated locations.

My kids (13.8 and 16.9) would have trouble identifying any coin other than a penny. Makes sense - they don't use physical money. Everything is on credit cards.

Every generation looks awful to those two generations back. So what if they don't know a dime from a nickel (coins they've likely never seen, and a nickel has about the same buying power that a penny did when I was a kid.) They also don't know how to use a rotary phone, or how to fix an unwound cassette tape, or use a card catalog, or drive a manual transmission, or record on a VHS tape, or what a carburetor does, or know what, "smoking or non?" from a waitress means, and or any of the other things that simply don't exist in their lives.

I mean, how many of us know how to use a washboard and ringer, or start fire with flint and steel, or lay a proper cooking fire in an oven, or clean a horse's hooves? Those were all basic skills at one point. We're not lesser for not knowing them, as they're not part of our world.

(And yes, some of us know how to do those things - but I think the point stands.)

Even if they're not in on the production, everyone being interviewed knows exactly what kind of video is being made here. They've been watching them since 4th grade, and they know the kind of answer that will get them into the final cut.

The real trick is being played on oldsters naive enough to believe that they're seeing something authentic.

This is the Reading Rainbow episode that LeVar hosted from the set of Star Trek the Next Generation. A behind the scenes look at the show. I think I posted it many years ago. Love the ep. Look how young Levar and the cast were. This is how I tend to think of them because thats when I watched all them so much. I remember watching this ep of Reading Rainbow when it aired even. So many shots to get one scene and so much what seems like extra work editing it all together. Like why do they have to make a cutout spot to place the Enterprise in a scene...why not just place it?

They are still used in modern society. Don't believe me? Get a job in retail.
My kid worked at McDonald's for a bit, they had one young person start there who did not know the difference in the coins. When people needed change, she just handed out random amounts. McD's being desperate for bodies, that didn't get her fired even when they were often losing money.

Along the lines of this train of thought, saw a "hack" for how to do the math for percentages easier. They wrote the problem down, shifted decimals, then said "Now use a calculator to multiple these numbers" and then move the decimal, bang! Um... YOU GRABBED FREAKING CALCULATOR TO DO THIS AND DID NOT JUST DO ALL OF IT ON THE CALCULATOR???
