I really have trouble with the last map ("The Last Stand") - I tried a lot of different strategies and it seems to work for a while and then I get swamped by shielded guys and what appears to be millions ( ) of the stealth guys ... very frustrating ... :x

I am super annoyed at the leaderboards. I just found a 12 gun solution to Cold Storage beating everyone by 2000 points, did it twice, neither time did the score post. The third time I go to do it the solution doesn't work... but even then I'd still beat everyone by 1300 or so. I have to reproduce scores to get them to post quite often and its really annoying.

I've never had a score not post...at least not when I wasn't on it before. I've seen them very slow to update, sometimes an old version of the scoreboard will show up in the game for a while, but anytime I wasn't on the board, then beat a mission, my score shows up.

I've finally finished writing the guide for mission 3, you can find it here: http://greyfox.me/2010/05/06/defense-gr ... -research/" target="_blank

I've worked some on the structure of this one and the last article. I'd appreciate any feedback :)

Is that the one where the aliens come in already holding the cores, and there is a mix of bridges and open areas?
.
First, fill in the middle row of the 1st open area area with guns. I put a temp in there once I have the money. This is your kill zone. Next, you start building a path that will bring them back past your kill zone. Start by blocking off the straight path in area 2 so they turn up. Then block off the long loop bridge and the short path to the exit in open area 3. This should send them past your kill zone again. Then block off the next path in area 4 that takes the long unguarded path to the core - make them go up around the loop. Once it's set up, I block off the other exit paths and sell one tower in area 3 so they have to go past my kill zone a 3rd time to get out. As long as you have the other paths to the core blocked off, the aliens won't go through that hole until they have a core. You need to block it off early so the first aliens don't use it to get away. Upgrade the kill zone to red ASAP. A meteor & command up high will be handy. You can upgrade open area 2, 3, or 4 next as you see fit, but only 3 & 4 get passed by twice.
.
There is a 4-square area near the top, but it's not very effective. Make sure to use some lasers to hit those fast bosses - definitely in area 4...one at the entrance and on at the exit will complement each other well...especially with a temp tower to keep 'em around longer.

Woo Hoo!

I'm a little upset that there are 5 I can't get.

The hardest ones to get for me were Untouchable, Relay Race, Close Call, and Well Invested. Full House wasn't hard, I just had to find the right mission (I used Turnabout's story). Some of those were automatics when you play the advanced missions. You get Minimalist when you win a Green Towers Only mission. Relay Race came on my first Poison Core mission. Close Call came on my first Single Core mission. Well Invested came from a Grinder.

Steam wrote: Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 1 released
Today, June 02, 2010, 4 hours ago | Valve
The first premium expansion pack for the award-winning Defense Grid: The Awakening arrives to Steam today in the form of Defense Grid: Resurgence - a series of eight new highly polished and balanced maps from the original creators of the definitive tower defense game.

For four consecutive weeks starting on June 2nd, a new pair of maps will be released each week providing new environments and strategic experiences, requiring new ways of thinking to beat back the aliens and protect the cores.

Today's Map Pack 1 release includes two new challenging environments - Service Interruption and Height of Confusion. An obstructed road to the core housing gives the aliens a significant advantage in Service Interruption. Choose your towers wisely! Height of Confusion has a wide open surface, making for endless possibilities! Build anywhere you want in your defense of the power cores!

Rank 306(71166pts) on Height of Confusion.

What sort of score do you need to get 4th?

The gold on Service Interruption is proving elusive to me- though my last attempt showed some promise. I'll have to sleep on it and try to prefect it tomorrow.

Height of Confusion is just a lot of fun since anything goes. I can see myself replaying it over and over just to satisfy my curiosity; can I make one big spiral? what if I just put towers at the entrances? what if I only used tesla towers? etc.

Yes I dropped down to fifth. At one point I was 3rd with that score, but I tried to tweak my strategy and by the time I had replayed once, someone else had uploaded a higher score.

Yay, finally got gold on Service Interrupted! Required a lot of Backspace-ing and fiddling with the timing of upgrades. Definitely a frustrating map. But Height of Confusion makes up for it. Lots of fun! Not sure if I can catch up to Tscott though. That's a dang impressive score!

Service Interruption was giving me fits. Around 64,400 was the best I could do for the longest time. I finally gave up on the idea of trying to control the top of the map (I had been trying tons of Cannons up there to damage them above and below). I wound up focusing on strong kill zone elsewhere and used a command tower there for more resources, to make up for the fact that my cores were almost always away from the base.

I ended up using two kill zones plus meteor towers and maxed cannon towers in the middle and near the exit. The first KZ was near the core, later I added a 2nd KZ in the bottom right corner. The speeders kept getting away til I figured out upgraded gun towers near the entrance could hit them on the hairpin turn near the exit.

Most releases on Steam seem to unlock early afternoon (around 1 or 2) for me. I'm in the central time zone.

That's around when I noticed it unlocked for me today. I had preordered, so when I started the game I saw a "finished downloading" message on start up, but no maps. I restarted and there they were.

The final wave on today's second map is currently kicking my butt. Stupid cloaked rumblers.

The first map pack was too easy, I thought (I'm not yet at the stage where I'm playing for points, just for fun right now). This one seems to ramp up nicely, though. The first of the two was kicking my ass last night since I had to split up my defenses due to the decentralized resource spots.

I still think this game should come with an FDA warning that tells folks how friggin' addictive it can be.
