I remember my phone number from when I was 12. EDgewood 58825. Only number I can remember except for my present one.

A long time ago I couldn't remember my home phone. I never called it.

While tidying up the kitchen after fix'n sausage gravy and biscuits the thought "We're gonna need to get the Bill Shatner out of your mother" ran through my head. Odd. But it was random randomness so I'm posting it.

Glendale. GL was Glendale. Ours started with CH5, and CH was Cherry.

When I was real little we could connect with just 5 number if it was a certain starting number. We had...

472-xxxx
476-xxxx
479-xxxx

The first two you had to dial the full number for it to work. But those with a 9 after the 47 could be called by dialing without the 47 prefix.
So..

479-xxxx became 9-xxxx.

A VERY long time ago when our numbers were shorter than I remember them being..we're talking like 1930s and 1940s here now....our local telephone service was hooked into some area wide network called Greensomething. So you dialed like G123 for a taxi or some crap. They had operators on the lines back then I think. Way before my time. Im 1970s and up lol.

When ZIP codes were new, one could address a local letter to "City 5", where "City" meant "here" and 5 was the last digit of the code. Before ZIP, just writing "City" was enough.

This is the one that I remember from growing up near Philadelphia:

I have no comment on the ad in the thumbnail for this video.

WFIL 560 AM was an oldies station last I knew. I just checked and now they're "Philadelphia's Christian Radio".

Pretty awesome High School Senior Prank!
An entire 356,787 square-foot piece of property in Maryland — complete with a "nice spacious kitchen and dining room," a "private basketball court," and a "private study!!" went up for sale on Zillow last week for an unbelievable $42,067 — which breaks down to only 12 cents a square foot.

The listing seemed too good to be true, and then it got stranger, describing the property as a "nice half working jail" that was "built in 1792" and hilariously boasted of the property's "complementary trash scented air freshener and water issues!" noting that "all 15 bathrooms come with sewage issues!" Turns out the jail was actually Meade High School, built in 1977, and was listed by a group of the school's 12th-grade pranksters.

Are we sure it wasn't put up for sale for $42,069 Because that makes more sense than $42,067.

Some birds will become vocal at night to attract a mate or warn others of a potential threat. Or it could be confused by light pollution.

There's a bird in my neighborhood that goes full-throated around 2 a.m. It's loud and melodious, but not as complex as a nightingale's. It's my sign that it's time to go to bed.

I saw a racoon for the fiirst time in my life yesterday. I was in the kitchen and saw him walk to the back door. I went to it but he was gone. I didn't see him after walking out either. Like a magician just vanished. Was so cool. I hope theres more or he stays around.

Trust me, you don't really want to have raccoon visits. They can be vicious. Several years ago, we went camping with a group at a provincial park, and it was being overrun by raccoons. They were so used to people that they would wander into campsites and just steal food from coolers. From ours they got a loaf of bread and a number of things, and then as if it had eaten too much, got into my Dad's advil. And at night they would wander into the campsites when people were around the campfire.

You know, they say once you've named it - you own it. I see a relationship building here. Can you maybe tame it and make a cool 80s show about how the two of you just barely get along?

It's like an American rule of thumb: the more something is like you - you should detest it. Raccoons and The French come to mind as fine examples.

Coming Soon
During a recent Q&A session at Texas Frightmare Weekend (via Creepy Catalog), horror icon John Carpenter revealed that he can’t answer any fan questions about his cult classic horror film The Thing, hinting that The Thing 2 may finally be happening in the near future.

“I have been sworn to secrecy, okay, because there may be, I don’t know if there will be, there may be a Thing 2,” Carpenter said.
