I also love the Gin Blossoms "If you don't expect too much from me, you might no be let down." In fact, that entire song is a "bag of holding" for great lyrics:

"Tell me do you think it’d be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I’m in no shape for driving
And anyway I’ve got no place to go
And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I’d ever had
If I hadn’t blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone
Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take it’s place...hey jealousy
And you can trust me not to think
And not to sleep around
If you don’t expect too much from me
You might not be let down
Cause all I really want is to be with you
Feeling like I matter too
If I hadn’t blown the whole thing years ago
I might be here with you
Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found
To take it’s place...hey jealousy
She took my heart
There’s only one thing I couldn’t start"

Simple contest for the day:

First one to name the song containing my sig. (AND THE BAND) gets to OWN Australia for the day (including Rachel Hunter).

Let me also hear what you think are great lyrics. (I guess that should be "see" and not "hear")
"Now, she should be good-looking, but we're willing to trade looks for a certain... morally casual attitude."

I'm quite fond of 'Kite' by U2; oddly enough it was the last song to play at my going away party before I moved a quarter of the counrty away from most of my friends (it was on a disc of hundreds of MP3's set to play at random).

"Kite"

Something
Is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is

I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

And hardness
It sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin

I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone
Or anything at all

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know
Which way the wind will blow

Who's to know when the time has come around
Don't want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

It's somewhere I can taste the salty sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on the breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me

I'm a man
I'm not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know
Where the wind will blow

Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

Did I waste it
Not so much I couldn't taste it
Life should be fragrant
Rooftop to the basement

The last of the rocks stars
When hip-hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
What was the big idea

Eel now owns Queensland. Let us know what you'll do with the country.

KELRIC! I FINALLY SEE YOUR SMILING FACE!

Now the cycle is complete.

Anyway, I'm probably going to put a KFC there. Cuz, you know, KFC's always cool. I'm not terribly ambitious when I own countries.

We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We ohhed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light

Our last hurrah

"Let the eagle soar,

Like she’s never soared before.

From rocky coast to golden shore,

Let the mighty eagle soar.

Soar with healing in her wings,

As the land beneath her sings:

'Only god, no other kings.'

This country’s far too young to die.

We’ve still got a lot of climbing to do,

And we can make it if we try.

Built by toils and struggles

God has led us through."

Damn you're quick.

Good. Because there's a kind of food called a "pastie", and I really didn't want it to come across as "pastie-livered". That would just, you know, lack style.

It's also a Cornish food, usually consisting of meat, potatoes, and a selection of vegetables (chef's choice) wrapped in pastry.

Although yours sounds interesting, too. ;)

And so that will be lead in to my entire song of Great Lyrics:

Smellin' like a brewery, lookin' like a tramp
I ain't got a quarter, I got a postage stamp
Been five o'clock shadow boxin' all around the town
Talkin' with the old men, sleepin' on the ground

Bazanti bootin' al zootin' al hoot and Al Cohn
Sharin' this apartment with a telephone pole
And a fishnet stocking, spike heeled shoes
Strip tease, prick tease, car keys blues

And the porno floor show, live nude girls
Dreamy and creamy and brunette curls
Chesty Morgan and Watermelon Rose
Raise my rent and take off all your clothes

With trench coats, magazines, a bottle full of rum
She's so good, it make a dead man cum
Pasties and a G-string, beer and a shot
Portland through a shot glass and a Buffalo squeeze

Wrinkles and Cherry and Twinkie and Pinkie
And Fifi live from Gay Paree
Fanfares, rim shots, backstage, who cares
All this hot burlesque for me
[scat sings]

Cleavage, cleavage, thighs and hips
From the nape of her neck to the lipstick lips
Chopped and channeled and lowered and lewd
And the cheater slicks and baby moons
She's a-hot and ready, creamy and sugared
And the band is awful and so are the tunes
[scat sings]

Crawlin' on her belly, and shakin' like jelly
And I'm gettin' harder than Chinese algebra-ssieres
And cheers from the compendium here
Hey sweetheart, they're yellin' for more
You're squashin' out your cigarette butts on the floor

And I like Shelly, and you like Jane
And what was the girl with the snakeskin's name?
And it's an early bird matinee, come back any day
Get you a little something that you can't get at home
And get you a little something that you can't get at home

It's pasties and a G-string, beer and a shot
Portland through a shot glass and a Buffalo squeeze
Popcorn, front row, higher than a kite
And I'll be back tomorrow night
And I'll be back tomorrow night
[scat sings]

[Yeah]

Phish "Limb By Limb"

the shoulder that I leaned on was carved out of stone
but when I'm done freezing I want to be alone

never want my hand cut off
never want a hacking cough
never need a cliffside push
never turn my brain to mush

always give me what I lack
always take the best parts back
always recognize your fate
always just a moment late

left is where I always turn
left is how I'm forced to learn
left the route my walking takes
left alone with my mistakes

up against the person who
up 'til now I never knew
up from hell the answer blew
up or down it's up to you

drop me off the Chinese wall
and peel my fingers off the rim
I come unglued while in midair and land to reform
limb by limb

and I am taken far away...

lingering slowly melting away
tossed with the salad and baled with the hay
pooling the water that drips from above
trampled by lambs pecked by the dove
