Which type of connection generates the best possible picture

Post by Coskesh »

Getting a family member an HDTV tuner and antenna. The tuner has various outputs, so I'm not sure which one would result in the best picture.

I'm assuming the rankings (from best to worst) would be:

- DVI (if the TV supports this)
- component (should be standard on HD capable TVs?)
- SVideo
- composite
- CoAx/RF

That about right?

Order looks right to me, but I would put DVI and component as a tie and composite and Coax as a tie. Also, some TVs have RGB/VGA inputs. Probably ranks up there with DVI/component.

I'd agree with LawBeef. DVI and component are both top-notch. To answer your question, yes component will be standard on every HD set. In fact, they're now standard on all sets worth buying.
