Favorite Christmas songs
I'm trying to fill out my Christmas song list. Wanted to see what others favorite christmas song/video was, especially if it's not super popular.
For me it's:
1. Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano - Such a great christmas song. It's happy and catchy.
2. Little Drummer Boy - Sean Quigley - One of the few religious songs I like and easily the best rendition IMO
3. 12 Days of Christmas - Bob and Doug McKenzie - Just a fun song all the way around.
4. Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney - Not unique but still a great song
5. Dominick the Donkey - The Italian Christmas Song - Lou Monte - Jing a D Jing, It's Dominick the Donkey
6. Hallelujah - Theory of a Deadman - FU Pentatonix
7. Not Another Christmas Song - blink 182 - Unique song from one of my favorite bands
8. Tenacious D and Sum 41 - Things I want - Love me some D
9. Brick - Ben Folds Five - some may not consider it a christmas song but you're wrong - It's the Die Hard of Christmas movies.
10. Anything by Burl Ives or Andy Williams - Yeah, it's traditional - sue me.
Honorable Mention - I Want an Alien for Christmas - Fountains of Wayne, Wham - Last Christmas, Run DMS - Christmas in Hollis, The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping (beats the shit out of Rockin Round the Christmas Tree)

That sound of the spoon scraping over the can ribbing as you corral the last ravioli or two is the signal that a great treat is coming. It's the washboard solo in God's own

Re: Favorite Christmas songs
I'm on board for most of these, but 'Brick' is in no way a Christmas song. I love the song, but just because his girlfriend has an abortion the day after Christmas (that they try and fail to hide from their families) does not make it a Christmas song.

Driving Home for Christmas - Chris Rea. Sadly I'm the only one in the house who likes it.

My favorite cheery Christmas song.
This one also slaps.

Re: Favorite Christmas songs
Do those songs still exist? All I ever hear in public anymore is bad covers of Christmas songs. Pop style, diva style, or country style. I assume stores play them to save the fees for known musicians, but they make my ears bleed.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Re: Favorite Christmas songs
My absolute favorite Christmas song of all time is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." And not the upbeat "hang a shining star" bullshit Frank Sinatra version either. I mean the depressing Judy Garland version colored with a small child's tears. My favorite Christmas songs are the ones with a touch of melancholy.
Other favorites in no particular order:
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Blue Christmas
White Christmas
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (I love the guitar accents in this one)
And perhaps the greatest Christmas song of all time:

Re: Favorite Christmas songs
Carol of the Bells - almost all versions. Vocal, Instrumental, Jazz, etc. I also count TSO's Christmas Eve/Sarajevo in this. I've heard some renditions that I don't care for but not many.
A Soalin' - Peter, Paul, and Mary. This got heavy play in our home growing up. It's just not Christmas for me unless I get this in my ear holes at least a dozen times.
O Come, All Ye Faithful - Ed Ames. Just... holy shit what a voice. Part of the Ames Brothers and also a TV actor during the '60's. This was another one that got constant play in our household growing up.
Linus and Lucy - Vince Guaraldi Trio. I mean, come on, this song is so indelibly linked to Christmas it's part of the national psyche.

I just bought this last night during my favorite local record store's Christmas music show. I'm a huge Hall & Oates fan but I didn't know they had a Christmas album. That was an insta-buy.Daehawk wrote:Jingle Bell Rock - Hall & Oats

I was sad reading recently how all this time they wereen't really even friends just considered each other business partners. I always thought they were really close friends all these years. And now Hall has sued Oats in Nashville after years of fighting. F'n shame. Really kinda heartbroken to read it all and find out.
Ill keep my view of them intact and ignore it all. Loved them since I was a young teen in the early 80s. They were all you heard of the radio back then. Ill say Merry Christmas to them if they wont each other.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special features two of my favorite songs right now.
Kevin Bacon has a surprisingly good song, but “I Don’t Know What Christmas Is But Christmas Time is Here” is a certified banger.

Re: Favorite Christmas songs
I knew he had a band and wasn't really surprised when he started singing. I figured when he started singing that his being on the special was contingent on him being able to sing during at least one scene.Daehawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:58 pmI was VERY surprised to hear him sing on that special. I once heard Carol of the Bells live, performed on actual bells,
And nothing else has ever lived up to that experience.
As for worded Christmas songs, Greensleeves is my favorite. I know its not exctly Christmas thing, but it gets played a lot at Christmas

Not so much I have favorite Christmas songs but the CDs that get replayed often at our house is
Burl Ives Christmas CD and Bing Crosby's.
I like the classics more than the new stuff.
