We did our Winterfest event this weekend and I'm Christmased out. Already.

Looking forward to seeing family later in the month and maybe taking a week off. But maybe not if end-of-year work shit hits the fan.

Anyone watching Scrooged this year? I just watched the trailer for it and Im so tempted. Haven't seen it since me and my wife saw it in theater in 1988. Maybe it would be nice. I can count it as a Christmas movie, its fun, and also count it as one I haven't seen since we did.

I also need a Hallmark movie. They have 31!! To choose from this year. I guess they are showing one a night. Im not sure how to watch one though if its not already online some place. Scrooged I may can find. Might be on Amazon prime videos. Most things I want to see aren't though.

Last year we watched about half a dozen different versions of A Christmas Carol. Scrooged was the only one we turned off before the end. Neither of us saw any funny there.

The 1951 movie with Alastair Sim won, FWIW. If you've never seen it, make 90 minutes for it this year.

Scrooged is my favorite of all versions of A Christmas Carol. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly insane.

I was always partial to "A Diva's Christmas Carol" (VH1 original movie from 2000, with Vanessa Williams as the main character).

I do like the one with Patrick Stewart.

It's a little late this year, but next year we should bring back the card exchange.

Merry Christmas 2023!

Post by Zarathud »

Merry Christmas to All.

Sitting down after an exhausting few days. One more set of presents to wrap, and the stocking stuffings, for Christmas Day.

Bought my 2 year old niece a riding Bee, an IKEA Circus Tent, DUPLOs and the classic Rankin/Bass Reindeer and Frosty DVDs. Had a great time being an Uncle Jungle Gym.

Teenage kids are happy but cranky from overstimulation. Younger daughter has a set of Frog zip-up sweaters, a Frog cover for her computer chair, and plushies. Older daughter has a D&D themed sorcerer skirt, clay modeling supplies and 6 books from an anime series.

Tomorrow is my wife’s family Christmas and one of my wife’s aunts who will come over for ham dinner with her son. The other aunt will stay home with a sick granddaughter.

The annual meat loaf and scalloped potatoes are done. Took me longer than I expected due to my newly arthritic hands, even though my mandoline made short work of slicing the spuds. But with 6 lbs of potatoes and 3 lbs of meat, that's dinner for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow we have a few gifts to open; my nephews and niece actually sent us something for the first time ever. Xmas with my family was always a one-way street before because I have extra money and they never did.

Tuesday morning I'm seeing a specialist about my hands. I really don't like being crippled.

Apart from that, this week is my chance to catch up on a couple of editing jobs that I let get away from me.

Arthritis is fun, isn't it? I was supposed to have surgery on my right hand last summer but my wife's torn rotator cuff has postponed that to next summer. Meantime I'm getting steroid shots in my wrist every three months. And my feet ache every day, but I won't give up my morning three mile walk.

It's going to be a quiet Christmas for us. We're not visiting anyone and of course no one visits us. But that's fine, my wife's tradition of not decorating the tree till Christmas Eve has fallen behind schedule. We got the outside done last week after three weeks of on again, off again decorating. But today she got caught up in unboxing and setting up her collection of snow globes and music boxes so I think she's start on the tree tomorrow.

Last you she didn't get done decorating till New Year's Eve, I suspect this year she might make the Epiphany . However, while she thinks that it's weird to have the outside Christmas decorations up after mid-January (I disagree) she's thinking we'll leave the inside stuff up for a while after that.

Merry Christmas, OO friends and acquaintances. Wishing you all a wonderful season and time of health and peace.

MHS got sprung from the hospital earlier this week (COVID recovery is a bitch without an immune system), her mother has been her a couple of weeks, our daughter rolled in on Wednesday, and her partner joined us on Saturday. We're giving what promises to be our biggest gift in our lifetime a bit later this morning, so excitement levels are high on the parental side. More info once the surprise is resolved.

My wife has retreated to the sofa to sleep because she felt to sick to make it upstairs to the bed. Visiting adult children were sent off to the daughter's house to be festive. I've cleaned up a little and it looks like it will be a quiet Christmas afternoon.
