Same…and that’s coming from someone who has fallen asleep (in theater!) during some supposedly great action movies (“The Batman” I’m looking at you).

I never felt like nodding off during Dune, even the second time I watched it.

Was that you? I thought it was Hep that detailed his traumatic experience with 4DX. Whomever it was, it was a thoroughly entertaining read, would recommend. Better than Cats.

I get it, but their humor is almost always based on some truth. I guess many people found the movie boring, dunno.

I think the joke is more about the first one being really long and a lot of people watching it at home since it was released on HBOMax. I know I split it into two nights - I would have definitely fallen asleep if I had tried to do one sitting given that I end up starting something like that late at night.

Oh I know, I wasn't necessarily responding to the article. I'm just really looking forward to seeing how they wrap it all up. I was 9 or 10 when the David Lynch movie came out and had no idea what I was going in to. I remember the movie theater had a glossary of terms they handed out to people as they entered the screening, and I remember I was hugely grossed out by the Baron Harkonnen and the heart plug scene. I actually got up and walked out because I was a sensitive young lad... But then I came back in about ten minutes later and loved the rest of the movie, particularly the training with the weirding modules, the battle for the planet, and the final combat between Paul and Feyd-Rautha.

I also own the more accurate but not as well received miniseries on DVD.

I fell asleep trying to read the book, and fell asleep during the movie. So I guess it's true to the book.

Looks super solid. I had one tiny concern and I feel it stands for now. Virginia Madsen set a high bar for Irulan. She portrayed Irulan with the elegance you'd expect. I had (and still have) a worry that Pugh was too 'down to earth' to pull that off. It's a minor thing but still really looking forward to this.

Besides the opening intro, and being shooed away by her father a few minutes later... I don't recall much of any Princess Irulan in the Lynch film. She had a sizeable role in the miniseries, but that was a different actress.

IIRC she has a bigger part in the Director's Cut but in the end her voiceovers, appearances, and time spent on screen were elegant.

I liked her in the role, and I had a huge crush on her when I was a teenager, but I don't recall her being that much of a standout in the show. At least so far as being hard to replace.

For me, Lynch's Dune will always be known for two things:

1) The amazing set and costume design

2) Sting screaming (awkwardly), "I wIIILLLLllll killlllll him!"

How much would you pay for "I wIIILLLLllll killlllll him!" to be included in this movie?

In the novel she appears in a single scene (the last one) and doesn't speak at all in it. Her only presence is in the epigraphs to a small number of chapters. (She's a more major character in Dune Messiah, though.)

Not as much as I would to have Mark Wahlberg playing the part of Feyd-Rautha.

"Yo, Paulie, you got wicked mad skills with that kiss knife or whatever. You wanna throw down? Oh, and say hi to your mother for me."

....although I suspect it would really go like this... "I wIIILLLLllll killlllll ...LINE!"

Emperor - no. Count Fenring, absolutely. I bet he could plausibly do Lady Fenring as well.

I love that they’re focusing on Paul NOT being the hero that the Lynch movie made him. It’s truer to the books.
