Strictly speaking Germany would be in possession of its SC regardless of its retreats, since Russia never gained possession of it. But I agree that those retreats are logical (without orders, I would err on the side of assuming that Russia does not want to destroy its retreating fleet).

Germany still has to remove 2 units so if he wanted to disband either unit it is easy enough for him to do so now. As I said, the province did not change ownership due to that move so I figured it was the fairest.

Sorry for causing a delay, but as Remus mentioned I am getting married this Sunday. Somehow I suspect the soon-to-be missus (sp?) would not be too understanding if I spent time staring at a Diplomacy board during our wedding preparations and relaxation time afterwards. "But honey, I have to defend France!"

But hey - at least you can be glad that I'm not taking a full honeymoon until April!

Also, I think a round where I submit everyone's moves for them would be appropriate as a wedding present. And cheap!

Quick note. I made an error in the orders.

Italy: A Rome -> Tuscany was the order received.
Italy: A Rome Hold was the order processed.

When I cut and paste it into Word I chopped that order off. I will fix this tomorrow. For now please note that Italy's Army in Rome is actually in Tuscany. There was no interference with that move so it will go through. Other than that the board will look the same. My appologies to all. I am not changing the deadline for orders as I think you/we can easily work with the map and the knowledge of where the Army actually is.

Yeah, that retreat's fine. In fact, that retreat is why I opened up Tuscany. :)

I propose we vote for a 3 way draw. Unless France and Russia turn on each other, this won't go anywhere. Good game, guys.

I disagree. You may be confident that your play has been solid enough that you'll certainly find your way in a three-way stalemate. I'm not as confident that you'll get there, given the fact that you've made a mistake or two.

I presently have play (and plans) on the board, and would like to see it through until a proper draw or a victory occurs.

Of course, you're welcome to withdraw and have all your positions hold by default. ;)

I would also vote for a draw. He is right, you know, that absent either Russia or myself turning on each other, there's no possiblity for a breakthrough that would lead to you reaching 18 centers. And we're not talking complicated moved here, we're talking about forgetting to order F Nwy S A StP, or whatever. But with that said, I'm happy to play things out as long as any of us would like. Actually, that's what the rules require anyways.

And hey, now the game is really feeling like World War I.

That depends, doesn't it, on the quality of the calculations each player makes? Having exploded three or four of Matthew's units, I'm interested in seeing just how he'll play things out. You're a careful player, El Guapo, so I'm interested in seeing how you'll interact with my moves in these final few turns.
And we're not talking complicated moved here, we're talking about forgetting to order F Nwy S A StP, or whatever.
Since everything's so simple and transparent, perhaps everyone could agree to a daily move, achieving a year every other day rather than a year every week or week and a half.

Thoughts?

Orders for Fall 1907 due Friday 11:59 PM EST

Once again, if orders are received early I will run the turn early. Additionally if the three of you vote (must be 3-0) to up the turn sequence to 24 hours I am happy to do that.

You're right. It's fundamentally unfair for me to keep you both in this game against your expressed will, when the outcome can be reasonably foreseen.

I'll join your two votes for a 3-way draw, since I now have an idea I like better: why don't both of you join the Diplomacy game I'm about to run?

Remus West will be playing, and riding roughshod over him is bound to be nothing if not fun. ;)

Well, you are free to keep the game going if you wish, as that is part of the game. But I think it's even more evident now that a purely military breakthrough is impossible. Well, it's possible for you to take Gulf of Lyon, but that fleet is actually totally unnecessary for the stalemate line - Wes, Spa, and Mar would all still be impregnable.

Well, you are free to keep the game going if you wish, as that is part of the game. And I would be fine with a series of one-day turns as you suggested, if you would like. But I think it's even more evident now that a purely military breakthrough is impossible. Thanks to all. Good game.

Thanks in particular to st_dysan, who agreed to collaborate with me in pushing back Russia after it became evident that Turkey's prospects were dimming. He was a good partner.

Thanks also to El Guapo, who provided me a number of rules clarifications that were most helpful for a first-time player.
