What are the good legal MP3 sites these days?

Post by $iljanus »

Friend of mine bought an iPod tonight and of course wants to fill it up with all sorts of good things. Other than the Apple Store which she knows about what else is out there?

Thanks!

PS Of all places, Amazon has an interesting and wide selection of MP3s offered as free downloads.

By that you mean: Not secure WMA's (iPod) and preferably free?

Well, free is nice. But a good subscription site wouldn't be bad either. I remember being a member of one site that quite a few GGers were a part of a long time ago. Was an all you can eat sort of deal for one price but when they went to limited downloads I dropped the service.

I think it was www.emusic.com. They have a free 2-week trial with up to 50 mp3s, not bad if you remember to cancel if you don't want to keep it.

I don't suppose they have 30 second samples of their MP3's. Would kind of suck to download a MP3 that sucks and have it counted toward your download quota. The website didn't really say.

WinMX and Napster was soooo much better for this sort of thing back in the golden age of file sharing...

http://www.allofmp3.com/ isn't bad. Prepay for bandwidth, the songs come out to something like ten cents on average.

http://www.emusic.com/browse/all.html

emusic does have 30 minute samples.

i used to use them when they had the unlimited dl's a month and got a lot of good metal/punk/stoner rock.

not sure how there service is now though.
