I have to be in the right mood for it, but when I am, there are few bands who capture base, raw, unbridled fury like Full of Hell can.

Years ago, there was an International Flute Festival at Grant Park, where the Grant Park Symphony played before Millennium Park was built. Ian Anderson was part of that festival. After the academic stuff was complete, Jethro Tull played a full, free set.

Speaking of misheard lyrics, long ago Ozzy Osbourne was interviewed on Bob Costas' "Later" show. I remember Ozzy admitted the first time he heard Purple Haze he thought the lyrics were "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy".

I'm really digging the new 19+ minute song from The Decemberists
They're closing their show with this song on the current tour. Can't wait to see it later this summer.

Aquilus is a one-man symphonic black metal artist out of Australia. He creates these absolutely stunning symphonic works, blending sweeping classical orchestration and raw, harsh metal.
His third release, Bellum II, came out this week and is just as grandiose and beautiful as the first two. It's an amazing musical journey that takes you from epic string sections that could be straight out of the LOTR soundtrack one moment, then seamlessly transitions into brutal blastbeats and harsh vocals the next. When done well (which it absolutely is done here) it's one of my favorite blends of musical styles
The full album is on YouTube. It mostly flows as a singular piece, but is broken up into "tracks" at certain points. My favorite starts at 11:30 with "Nigh To Her Gloam". The beginning guitar and strings are just so damn beautiful.

Earworms incoming. This band is taking off right now and new album lands Friday. Will be an insta-buy for me. Also good to see an NC band becoming successful.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Edit: This is in Swedish (except for What Kind of Dumb Fuck Starts a War?), so I had to translate it:
Let's take a walk down the street one day, My poor alter ego and I. We make our way among generations, who fight with each other over sensations. It's a hot pursuit like no other after a thousand emeralds and a kingdom. A free offer falls from above, I gape and swallow and thank him for the gift. We open the door to a urinal, And there stands Santa Claus himself with a long nose and a beam that glitters. He pulls off his beard, It looks like he's giggling. He says: "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!"
It's not the snow that's falling. That is some other consolation. Picasso's acrobats dance over my chest. It's not the snow that's falling. When I need comfort. When disguised democrats put their boots in my chest.
We check in at the Temple of Temptation. Someone is chasing me with a stamp. My alter ego is starting to wonder. Why I hold my breath and count to a hundred. I pass the test and get classified, like an idiot but fully qualified to obey orders and walk in a harness. Someone sticks me a plastic ukelele and says: "play boy, play, play." My brain is hot but my fingers are stiff. Suddenly I'm standing with my butt bare. Someone sets fire to old Santa.
We step into a program control where they manipulate rock'n'roll and make lists of what applies: Cods and heroes and other rebels. Someone presents the new modernism, But Santa Claus blames capitalism. My alter ego kills itself. Personally, I don't know what will become of me. There is no place for fine nuances. Love has already burned its chances. I'm being chased by armed and angry penguins with sharp tongues and brackish faces. Midnight prevails, it is quiet in the houses. Legitimate fascists light the Christmas lights. In the streets and squares, the wrecks are crawling. Macabre and well-fed stereotypes. I'm alone left dancing around the tree, But where is the joy and where are the children? Something falls in my gray hair. Santa's father is injured and is laid on a stretcher. He says: "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!"

Re: What are you listening to right now?
via Wikipedia
Bowi was the first EP released on Stiff Records. Recorded by Nick Lowe, who had also released the first Stiff single, the title and cover were intended as a humorous response to the David Bowie album Low, which had been released earlier in the year. Lowe decided that as Bowie had made an album with his name, but without the final e, he would reciprocate by making a record with Bowie's name, also lacking the final e.

So, I'm reading a book featuring characters based on Harry Styles and One Direction, and I've never actually listened to them before...

I'm an unashamed Harry Styles fan. He has a lot of musical influences in his solo work that are right up my alley - 70s, Bowie, city pop, etc.

I've never really listened to his solo stuff, either. This is probably an oversight to rectify this month.YellowKing wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 6:06 pm I'm an unashamed Harry Styles fan. He has a lot of musical influences in his solo work that are right up my alley - 70s, Bowie, city pop, etc.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
A few months ago I heard one of Alanis Morissette's minor hits in passing. The song Hands Clean. It got stuck in my head. I'm now listening through the album that song came from. Always liked her voice, and the deep tracks from this album are really quite good. Album is Under Rug Swept.
No sig, must scream, etc.

So she is still singing about teen angst at her age . Hmm. She looks good. Is she sleeping in Tupperware?
Still sounds good too.

Under Rug Swept was released in 2002. She was 27, arguably still in her rock star teens.
She still sounds good now. Such Pretty Forks in the Road (2020) is a great album.
