RIP, James Horner
James Horner, a film composer known for scores such as Star Trek II, Titanic, Braveheart, and Avatar, died yesterday in a plane crash. Horner was the pilot, and the sole casualty of the crash.
He has been, and always will be, my favorite composer.
Rest in peace, James.

Re: RIP, James Horner
Incredibly sad. I'm surprised how young he is. He was just a kid when he scored Star Trek II!

Zarathud: The sad thing is that Barak Obama is a very intelligent and articulate person, even when you disagree with his views it's clear that he's very thoughtful. I would have loved to see Obama in a real debate.
Me: Wait 12 years, when he runs for president. :-)

Does he owe someone money? How can they not know yet report a death? If he is dead very sad. Huge name in Hollywood music. The plane was a two-seater S-312 Tucano MK1 turbo-prop, but no one else has been reported on board. It was not immediately clear whether Horner himself was flying the plane but the 61-year-old was unaccounted for following the crash.

It is odd that they are reporting his death yet they haven't been able to confirm that he actually died.
He was one of the greats. I really loved the scores he did for Wrath of Khan and 48 Hrs.

Horner's personal assistant confirmed on Facebook that he was the pilot and had died in the crash long before the media reports.McNutt wrote:It is odd that they are reporting his death yet they haven't been able to confirm that he actually died.

Sucks. I grew up listening to Horner's soundtracks obsessively. Here are a few favorites...
Apollo 13: The Launch
Titanic: A Shore Never Reached
Braveheart: The Battle of Stirling
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Epilogue
That list could go another 20 or 30 entries without reaching...

I understand that, but it's still odd that she is confirming this when there are also reports that a body hasn't been found yet. I'm saying that it seems odd for news agencies to not get their story straight in a rush to print.

What planet are you from? Do they have beer? I'd like to visit, if so.McNutt wrote:it seems odd for news agencies to not get their story straight in a rush to print.

I know. I keep hoping they'd learn their lesson. But to say he's dead in the headline and then say something completely different in the story is infuriating.

Weird, one of his most recent projects was the National Geographic iMax documentary, "Living in the Age of Airplanes." Narrated by Harrison Ford who also recently and famously crashed a plane.
Sad news.

Damn. My brain farted and I completely missed the connection that he wrote one of my favorite soundtracks, The Rocketeer.
It sucked before that he died, it sucks even more now.

Re: RIP, James Horner
Came across a random James Horner story today. Dude is a legend.
Just casually recorded a demo that unintentionally became one of the most memorable pieces (for me, at least) from a very memorable movie.

Thought he died again.
I loved his work. In fact I got my dad to buy me the Star Trek II music 8 track.

That’s what you get for arriving late!
Just kidding; that’s the risk of embedded tweets (though in this case, text wouldn’t have conveyed it). I’ll see if I can find another copy of it.

Re: RIP, James Horner
The original had Camron telling the tale, over the scene, but this will do in a pinch.
