Variety
Disney’s cost-cutting measures have reached to the top echelons of the company: Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, chairman of Marvel Entertainment, has been laid off, as his division — which is separate from Marvel Studios — is absorbed into other units of Disney.

Along with Perlmutter, Marvel Entertainment’s co-president Rob Steffens and chief counsel John Turitzin were also dismissed. Dan Buckley, president of the division, is staying and will report to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

A Disney spokesperson confirmed the departures to Variety.

The 80-year-old Perlmutter, who still owns a considerable share of Disney stock, was at the center of activist investor Nelson Peltz’s months-long fight to join the Disney board. Variety reported in February that Perlmutter’s backing of Peltz was due at least in part to CEO Bob Iger’s decision to sever Perlmutter’s control of Marvel Studios in 2015, which eventually reduced Marvel Entertainment to not much more than consumer products and comic book publishing.

Peltz ended his proxy battle in February after Iger announced his plan to reduce costs by $5.5 billion, which included reducing the workforce by 7,000 employees, as well as the expected return of the dividend payment for shareholders by the end of 2023.

I have a friend in the comics biz (he's a writer, and a regular for the Saturday Evening Post.) The response to the news was, "About damned time!"

And Perlmutter's division has nothing to do with the MCU.

And it’s just been announced that Marvel has hired the screenwriter for the last Avatar film for the Fantastic Four reboot.

Great, it will be 4 hours long with a 12 minute plot and the talking narwhal from Elf.

You know what would make this even better?

Triple P.

But on a serious note, I really am suffering from superhero fatigue at this point. I have no desire to see this in a theater. Same can be said for the last 4 or 5 superhero films released over the last few years.

Yeah, same here. If it gets great reviews then I'll probably see it in the theatre. Most likely I'll wind up watching it on Disney Plus with my son at some point in early 2024.

+1. For anyone planning on seeing this (and I think it looks great), watching Ms Marvel first is not optional.

Who is the one on the left? Is that from Eternals? I don't think I am missing any other MCU stuff (latest Thor and Ant-Man too).

She's Monica Rambeau

Spoilers for Captain Marvel and Wandavision
Spoiler:
She's Monica Rambeau, Carol Danver's friend's daughter from Captain Marvel (the one who picked her colors), who ended up joining SWORD (a government group similar to SHIELD), and was present during the events of Wandavision, which in turn led to this.

Yeah it's not hard to see why someone would miss who she is. Hell I thought she was Carol's friend and not the daughter.

I thought so initially as well until I realized that Captain Marvel took place in the 90s, well before any of the other MCU films except Cap'n America.

I could use fewer movie theater releases and more tv style series. And make sure there are crossovers. And step down from universe ending threats, go back to saving the town, or rescuing the mayors kids.

I know this sounds whack, but I would be super amused by a Ms Marvel / Daredevil teamup. Because in my head, he would not be able to 'sense' her light constructs. I know his super hearing can sonar solid objects or whatever, but I imagine due to comc book reasons, it just doesn't work on objects made of light.

That would not be horrible. They need to turn down the power level - comic book creep got them, with every new threat needing to be bigger than the previous one until the threats became unrelatable.

'Captain America: Brave New World': Anthony Mackie Shares Photo From Set
Sam Wilson is taking flight as Captain America once again in the upcoming Marvel Studios film which has now received a new title — Captain America: Brave New World.

Announcing the news, star Anthony Mackie posted a behind-the-scenes photo from the set where he's joined by his Captain America co-star, Harrison Ford. "When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen!", Mackie wrote in the caption, celebrating the film's milestone. In the film, Ford takes over the role of Thaddeus Ross, previously played by the late William Hurt.

It was mentioned in the Ant Man thread that Majors was just found guilty on two counts, including some pretty obvious evidence. But relevant to this thread, he has been dropped from all roles at Marvel. They're pretty invested in Kang at this point. They'll either need to write him out (turn him into a minor villain), or they'll need to Rhodey him.

They’ll Rhodey him. The multiverse will save Marvel’s ass on this one — He Who Remains was just a variant after all.

Deadpool, of course, could take things in a lot of different directions.

Cap'n America... I'm pretty neutral there. The MCU needs to be freshening things up, and I'm not sure that this is where that can happen.

Thunderbolts has the potential to add a twist to the MCU that it hasn't really had before (antiheroes.)

Blade is something completely different, and I'm not sure how they plan to fit him into the MCU. It could be awesome, it could be awful.

The Fantastic Four... well, they're not exactly my favorite team (Ben is awesome, and Sue can be a fun character, but Johnny is just annoying, and Reed is a straight up dick), plus the team has a very poor track record in film. But then again, if they really did it right, it could provide a new center for the MCU.

I read recently that a lot of movies have been pushed out and Deadpool 3 is the ONLY MCU movie coming out in 2024. I believe this is because of the WGA/SAG strikes.

Is there an X-men 97 thread? I didn’t see one, but there should be.

If you’re a fan of the original at all you should definitely watch this show. It’s some of the best X-men related media in a long time, and this weeks episode has me reeling a bit.

I was expecting some fun Saturday morning cartoon, and ended up getting punched in the gut.

I just finished Agents of Shield a few months ago as a lead-in to a combined (movies, shows, specials) watch of the MCU - although technically AoS isn't part of the MCU.

I'm REALLY hoping Disney changes that at some point. I just got to the season where they're in the future in space and I REALLY like how they did Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider.
Also a fan of the rest of the main cast.

They were originally combined, but they quietly let that fade partway through. They did the same thing with the various Netflix series.

The official MCU canon is that Coulson never came back after The Avengers. The Tahiti program never happened. Many later events directly contradict the MCU.

Of course that makes it an alternate timeline, and post-Loki, that's fair game.

Exactly! This is what I'm hoping. Either continue it in their own Universe or merge them with the MCU either by retconning or the next big bad is so bad they start bringing people over the the main MCU for backup.
I think I'd even be ok if they said it was canon up to a certain point and then it split from there
My only glimmer of hope is that they are making the Netflix shows canon.
But as much as I'd like a merge, I'd be ok with continuing their own separate show. Gonna be sad once I finish.
My condition does make this seem like it's a first viewing though. I remembered a bumcj of main things like some of the main cast, ghost rider, Enid who just showed up and earth beimg destroyed. Remembered the whole Hydra winning thing but not that it was in the framework.
Slowly remembering bits and pieces but most of the details are brand new to me which is why I'm enjoying it so much.
