Chroncles of Amber TV Series
At last! What I consider to be the greatest fantasy series of all time is getting an adaptation with...Stephen Colbert(!) involved in the project. Much more excited about this than any more GoT or LotR or WoT rehash projects.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
All roads lead to Amber.
I have only read the first four books in this series. I really need to re-read and then complete the two sets of books.
I'm also thinking of picking up a Kindle (finally) so this would be an excellent set to break it in with.

You should endeavor to read book 5, as that closes out the first story.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
Yeah, I haven't read the series (maybe the first few books?) and it's been 20+ years. I'm interested to see where it's going, that's for sure. I am a little surprised, though maybe I shouldn't be.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Looks like you can get all 10 books in one shot for $9.99 for Kindle.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
Added to my Wishlist. Now all I need to do is get a Kindle.
Any recommendations? I've been using my wife's Kindle (not sure what version). I think it's the smaller one.
Do they do color? I would like to add some graphic novels to my read list.

I upgraded to the Paperwhite last year and after some adjustments, I have fully embraced it; the backlit screen is a game changer.
For color and reading comics, I use my Kindle Fire. I know some have used Comixology, but I don't have any experience with it.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

I have a Kindle Paperwhite, but I don’t use it very often. I use the Kindle app on my MacBook. Because I am also a serial killer.
I’ve had the great big book of Amber for decades, but I think I only ever read the first five books, and it’s been a long time. I remember it as one of my favorite series though, so maybe it’s time to read it again.

And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

I fell asleep to Zelazny reading from Trumps of Doom in the mid 80s in a very intimate setting at a SciFi Con. Like 15 people. Sleep was a rare commodity at a con and his voice was so soothing and I was sitting still.
I also once fell asleep to Pratchett reading from one of the Discworld novels. I don't even remember which one. Ah, to be an overactive and underslept teenager who'd would drink all night and believe he could function normally the next day.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
For novels? Paperwhite. For comics, a larger Fire (don't go smaller than 10" for comics, and even then you will have to zoom in at times.) It is very easy to bypass the horribly limited Amazon app store and install Google Play.Brian wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 2:22 pmAdded to my Wishlist. Now all I need to do is get a Kindle.

Then you can go to Marvel Unlimited for Marvel, DC Infinite for DC, Comixology for various, and ComiCat (my preference) for loose files.
You can use the Fire with the Kindle app or Moon+ Reader (my preference) for novels, but the reflective screen can be a pain.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
IIRC the Amber books got quite repetitive after the first five books, and I dropped out after reading them. But it's been decades so I might not RC.

I have a framed original art ink panel of the first page of one of the Nine Princes of Amber graphic novels. I’m excited.

Thanks! Not a sale, but due to issues with his estate, there weren't eBooks for a long time, and then they were rather haphazard.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
I read these when they first came out and had to wait a year or two between each book, which was excruciating. Many complained about the POV change in the second 5 books, and its emphasis on magic rather than swordplay. I loved them all, but I'm a rabid fan of the series. They are quick reads though.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
I've read a bunch of books on the phone app. One easy way to up that "Books Read" number is to endeavor to read 1% of whatever book you're reading while on the throne. Depending on your frequency, that could be 3-6 books a year right there!ImLawBoy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 2:39 pmI've read all of A Song of Ice and Fire (so far) on my phone.RunningMn9 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 2:37 pmYou are a serial killer, thanks for letting us know.ImLawBoy wrote:I use the Kindle app on my phone.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
I read these many years ago so maybe it's time for a re-read. On another note, probably not well known but there was an Amber RPG. It was diceless and essentially relied on an auction system for attributes and cooperative storytelling. My gaming group in the late 90s gave it a shot but it fell apart quickly because 'cooperative storytelling' is great until someone decides they don't want to cooperate.

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
Haphazard is right. It's pretty clear that they just ran a paper edition through an OCR scanner, gave it the briefest pass and dumped it into the store.
The Kindle edition is rife with typos one would see in a scanned document. Most common are b/h substitutions followed by r/n swaps. So you get sentences like, "I had the nun of the place" or "He shook his bead" and "brushed his heard."
Somebody had to have given it at least a cursory edit review though as I've come across a few of these:

Re: Chroncles of Amber TV Series
It was pulled from Kindle sale shortly after y'all posted it here. If you read through the comments on Amazon they all confirm the things Brian is reporting. I'm guessing they'll patch it edit it and re-release.
