This new Health X NIN collab sounds like it could have come straight off Downward Spiral. I love it.

My oldest has been on a grunge kick lately, which is not my preferred genre, but he's 11 as of yesterday so I guess he's getting ready for teenage angst. My wife put the Nirvana station on the Amazon Music Echo station for him yesterday, and it started playing Nirvana - plus Journey, Van Halen, AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, etc. My wife was understandably puzzled buy this, but I did point out that grunge was really just mopey arena rock so it kind of fits.

I remember being surprised when the local classic rock stations started including Nirvana in their playlists.

My 14 year old daughter has declared Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue to be the best song ever. A strange step from My Chemical Romance.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Crue is disgusting (in a literal sense), but that's a killer song with an amazing solo that defines late 80s/early 90s American hard rock/heavy metal along with Kickstart My Heart, IMO. Though I'm definitely surprised it would be liked by someone of that generation in this era. But that's the great thing about music... you don't need to stay inside the box. That's at the age where I don't think was feeling music shame yet.

Girl has no shame. Rick rolling is the height of comedy for her. As well as internet meme songs that are either heavily auto tuned or out of tune.
I think Crue’s androgynous glam is attractive. And it’s definitely one of the better hair metal songs, and fits in with taking brain meds.
It’s part of her music evolution from Katy Perry, Pink, Taylor Swift and Weird Al.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
my favorite kind of music in the mid-late 80s was New Age - metal was the last 'genre' i came around to, and that wasn't until about 15 - 20 years ago. still can't find palatable the whole 80s glam rock/pop metal scene. i can't even listen to Alice Cooper's albums from that era (though he may have been just adopting the musical style as an act or just another music phase... or commercialism, who knows)

Re: What are you listening to right now?
This isn't new but new to me. I have heard many death metal covers (with death metal vocals) of metal songs that originally had clean vocals. But, this is the first time I recall a band covering a death metal song and creating vocal melodies. I absolutely love the original song (and prefer it) but I think this cover by Mob Rules of Raven's Flight (Amon Amarth) is ****FANTASTIC****.

This is a song about a guy who is reincarnated over and over. First a highwayman then a sailor, then a dam builder, and finally a star ship captain. Features four legendary singers.

What is the bot's weird obsession with Battle and/or Broken Angels?
On yesterday's run, I listened to Aquilus' "Griseus". It's an absolute masterpiece of symphonic metal. A new albums is supposedly coming later this year, and tops my most anticipated list for 2021.

The 2nd Wizardthrone single's announcement post accurately compares this song to Bal-Sagoth. I'm not sure whether it's loving homage or cheap knockoff, but even fake Bal-Sagoth is good Bal-Sagoth.

I didn't like that one quite as much as the first single, but it's still good. Gloryhammer + harsh vocals = WIN
The Skinny Puppy orbit led me yesterday to Order of the Static Temple. It's a new industrial/EBM project led by Rob Robinson (who has worked in Ohgr, Hate Dept, etc.) with Mark Walk (SP/Ohgr) on production, and Matt Sezter (Ohgr, London After Midnight) on guitars. Their debut album comes out mid-June, digging this first tune.

Holy shit Jackson Browne has new music. Always loved his sound. Dont recall anything he did that I didn't like to some degree. I admit to not seeing him since the late 80s or early 90s. I didn't recognize him at first he looks so old. Well he IS 72. He still sounds the same and the song rocks.
And hey look its that hot singer Phoebe Bridgers in there too. His old band mates play the medical staff

Boy, I can't figure out whether they had to go to Ahch-To Island to find him, or if he's starting to look like George Carlin.
Still sounds like Jackson, though.

I stumbled across the Bandcamp page for I, Voidhanger Records this morning. They are a record label who specialize in bizarre, insane, extreme metal. It's been a treasure trove for my earholes today.
A couple (completely batshit insane) standout albums have been Esoctrilihum's "Dy'th Requiem For The Serpent Telepath" and Acasual Intrusion's "Nulitas".

I'm sufficiently confused by Avatar and their album Feathers & Flesh. It's like someone put the metal back in alternative metal. It's a little like what I imagine Fall Out Boy would sound like as a metal band.
