Meh I'm under the average for this week. Bummer... Couple of the picks have me wondering what the heck I was thinking. Dallas duh, Buffalo that one I can live with... New Orleans... Pretty dumb too, but they haven't exactly been great this year. If Chicago wins tonight I'll be 5-5 on locks so there's that. Sounds like a lot of people will be 5-5 on locks.

I'm 4-4 on locks right now. I'll be very happy if I end up 4-5.

What a turnaround week from Week 6. Average score/game this week was 2.01--that's right, we averaged better than 13-0 this week. Last week the average was 0.80. Ridiculous. Since 11 of us tied for Top Dog, I'm going to call that a wash and just say we were all pretty good this week.

Score corrections should be submitted before kickoff of Thursday's game.

Heh, I missed a couple locks. Stupid Chargers and Vikings. On the flip side of that though is that I only picked the Lions out of bitterness that I was locking everyone else in the NFC North and refused to pick Detroit to lose the same week I did that.

The Bears score 2 TDs in 8 seconds to steal one from Carolina. Then the Cowboys lose because Dez Bryant's hand is slightly too large and his butt slightly too small, leading to his hand hitting out of bounds a split-second before his butt hits the ground with the winning TD. Bizarre week. Congrats to Mrs. Stinky Cheeseman for earning Top Dog honors this week.

Get those Thursday picks and any score corrections in before kickoff if you want. This was the third week this season where most folks would have been better off 'forgetting' to submit their Thursday pick.

So if your name isn't Octavious, your positioning is likely +/- 0 or one point from where you stood before last night. Almost everyone picked Indy, and a bunch locked them. Must have been feeling Luck-y.

Well, there are 256 reg. season games each year, and about one tie every 4+ years, right? So to make the math easy let's say your odds are somewhere around 1 in 1,000. Compare that to 1 in 2 for picking a winner--a tie should be worth about 1,000 points. :)

It's worth 2 in our pool.

18 ties in the 38 years possible, so average of just longer than two years. But the 80s had 10, so they throw the calculations way off. There have been five in the last 22 years, so one every 4.4 seasons since 1990.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I was going to ask about this. I locked the Niners, what happens then?

With the 1000 points for a tie rule, I'd guess all ties all the time!! I could hardly do worse than I'm doing now, but if some weekend 2 ties happen... :D

Hog, for the purposes of the pool you're either right or wrong. So in the case if a locked mispick of a tie, it's just -1 point, same as an incorrect lock.

CRAP! :x

I misunderstood your earlier "in our pool it's worth 2 points" - didn't realize that was part of the hypothetical where someone predicted a tie as the outcome.

Oh well - I bet a lot of people locked the Niners, though.

So there was no way to win this game (because probably nobody has ever picked "tie" as a possible outcome in the history of this contest), but there was still a way to lose if you locked one of the teams? Seems like a fairer thing to do would be to toss the game out of the results and award 0 points for everyone. I know I'll suggest that as a rule change for next year's contest.

I like the way it is. When you place that lock you are saying you are 100% certain that team is going to win. You are not saying you think they will not lose. Important distinction. So you suffer the penalty of being wrong on your lock (and for perspective, I locked San Fran and lost the point).

I, too, like the rule regarding ties as currently written.

I like it the way it is too.
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

Average for the week so far is 26.49, and one person's running a perfect week pending tonight's outcome. If STL had knocked off NYJ, we'd have a boatload of perfect weeks going. Craziness.

Crazy thing is, we weren't very far from a disaster of a week. I'm sure a lot of people locked ATL, DAL, and HOU.
Hodor.

Yup. And DET didn't have many locks, but the overwhelming majority picked GB. Same with BAL over PIT.

Now I'm REALLY pissed I didn't pick Buffalo over Miami. Would've been perfect otherwise. Maybe next week. :)
