Kind of holding steady but I'll take no gain as a good thing. Didn't work out as much as usual last week due to crappy weather.

Over the past two weeks I've added upper and lower body strength workouts to my routine twice a week on days I'm not doing the cardio and core workouts. Not extensive ones yet, but enough that I've noticed improvement already, which means I'm building more muscle. I'm really happy losing a pound along with the muscle gain, as it means that I've likely dropped two or three pounds of fat in the past week.

20210102 - 145.2 -- apparently eating an entire coffee cake over the course of a week on top of Christmas dinner and holiday related treats has consequences...
20210219 - 142.0 -- 10 pounds since August. Once I hit the 130s I think I call it quits.
20210402 - 139.6 -- final goal (140) achieved

I just wanted to see that 3 in the 10s spot (keeping the 1 in the hundreds!). I don' think I want to go much lower. I'll just keep an eye on things from here on out to make sure it doesn't get away from me.

Moving in the wrong direction but hoping I'm just building muscle. Have been doing a lot more strength training in the last couple of weeks.

A difference in two pounds could just be how much salt you had yesterday or how long you spent in the bathroom. It's margin of error close.

I've had my own weight jump six or eight pounds in a day just from what I ate or drank, then had it back down a day later.

I gained a pound. I'm not too bothered by it, as I know I'm still eating right and exercising. It wasn't fat gain. For one thing, I dropped fast quickly, so there was always going to be a slow down. For another, over the past two or three weeks I've added a lot of strength based exercises to my workouts - one set of squats and pushups daily, hip strengthening exercises daily, plus three sets of squats and pushups together with a range of resistance band exercises for my arms and shoulders twice a week. I'm building muscle noticeably, which increases weight on the scale quite a bit, and I'm probably gaining pounds of muscle faster than I'm losing pounds of fat. That won't last forever, and the fat is still going away. I had to take in my belt even more this week.

I think the most frustrating thing for me is that there's a lot of bouncing around the 200 number, but that's a clear new standard from pre-pandemic. 195 used to be my "bounce around" number, and hitting 199 was my absolute heaviest. Now I've seemingly moved the goalposts.

I'd love to blame it on the strength training, but at the peak of my Spartan training I was 190, with a lot more intensive strength training under my belt.

What I'm trying to keep in mind, however, is that I've gotten to the point where workouts are routine. Now that I've settled into that groove, I think improving my eating is the other half of the puzzle piece.

I recently got back to the gym. Or rather, the gym recently re-opened.

My pre-COVID target was 165 and my bounce-around was 168-170.

Now I'm stuck around 175.

Wow, big loss this week. I had hit a plateau over the past month after adding two resistance training days to my workout (again, I was still losing fat, but I was gaining a lot of muscle, offsetting the poundage lost.) It looks like I'm over that, though.

Still kind of bouncing around, but less discouraged this week since I've re-started my 5K training which is going well, and continuing my strength workouts. As long as I feel I'm getting stronger, I'm not going to sweat what the scale says.

My excuse is a 40-oz tub of these:

160 calories per 1/4 cup, baby. 1/4 cup being three small handfuls. There's just nothing I can do until they're gone, so I'd better hurry up and eat them.

I feel your pain. Peanuts are my major downfall as well. I love getting bags of the unshelled hot peanuts, and since you're shelling them by hand it doesn't seem like you're eating that much. But inevitably I pack on a couple of pounds whenever those are in the house.

Three pounds in three days. That's nice, but it isn't great. This week has been a mess of stressful crap, to the tune of lost sleep, missed workouts, poor hygiene, and not eating enough. While it may just be weight I was due to lose (fat loss tends to come in bursts), not eating enough also suggests that some of it could be lost muscle. It wouldn't be much. Five days of missed workouts isn't a lot (and to be fair, it was two pre-planned rest days followed by three days of missed workouts.) Plus while I didn't eat enough, and didn't eat well or enough protein, it also didn't eat nothing, so my body wouldn't have gone into full panic mode. There was glucose available, and I still exceeded the USRDA on protein by a significant amount (but the USRDA on protein is horribly inadequate unless you're totally sedentary - I normally take in about triple that.)

I usually use the unshelled trick to slow myself down. But Wife was ordering something online and needed to spend $8 to get free shipping, and that 40-oz vat of peanuts was $8. They are exceptionally good, and with no shells between them and my mouth, it's hard to resist just one more little handful.

My family of 4 (really 3 as my wife doesn't eat them) goes through 2x 52oz of Planters Dry Roasted peanuts every 4 weeks. We get them delivered through Sam's Club for $16.98.

I did a quick unofficial weigh-in and was down a pound and a half today. I know it may be meaningless in the greater scheme of things, but it was a nice ego boost. I do feel like I'm seeing some small but positive body changes from the consistent workouts. I've been doing 100 pushups a day for the past 3 weeks (more or less, depending on how I feel - I try to incorporate rest days). Doing 2+ miles interval runs at least 3 times a week. Have done a couple of Nike+ workouts that kicked my ever-loving ass (but in a good way).

I guess the biggest shift has been mental - I'm feeling really good again, which is probably a combo of the regular workouts and going to bed an extra hour early each night.

Nice little drop this week. A new low from when I started in March, and while we're only talking a minor deviation from the norm, this feels like the beginning of a downward trend. It marks a 2.5 pound drop from the start of the month, which is significant given I've been gaining muscle. It's hard to tell for sure without looking at side by side comparisons, but I feel like I'm starting to put a dent in the old dad gut.

Woo hoo! Net loss of 3.5 pounds for the month of April and I see the light at the end of the tunnel for getting to my normal pre-Covid weight of 195-ish. I think the running is really helping, along with some healthier eating habits. Considering I've been putting on some muscle weight, I'm VERY happy with the trend.

Scraper wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:13 am I'm starting a new post for me too. I started working out and dieting on February 15th, I weighed in at 211. (Last year I started the year at 212, so I guess I maintained).

I started a pretty strict Keto Diet for the first time ever, I paired that with "4 weeks of the Work" (It's on the Beach Body App) for exercise. As of 3/10/2021 I was down to 202. I am losing weight a hell of a lot faster with a low carb diet and about 1200 calories a day than I have at any time in the past 4 years.

Weigh ins:

2-15-21 211
2-23-21 207
3-10-21 202
3-15-21 201
3-22-21 200
5-4-21 196
I've been on 2 vacations since I last updated this so my weight loss should have taken a hit. But I managed to be fairly good while on vacation. I sit at 196 today. So I finally hit the 15 pound weight loss mark. I plan to try to get to 185 by July.

For the next couple of weeks I need to use some of my exercise time on gardening, so mileage is going to tail off. Gardening isn't exactly "exercise," but I am outdoors moving around and accomplishing stuff for an hour or more.

Code: Select all

20210514 - 139.2
Been bouncing around between 139 and 142 for the past few weeks. I am thinking about pushing for a bit lower (135) but it's hard to get motivated for that as I feel like there's not much left to give and I've made my wife insanely jealous already.

I forgot to post an update or two there but I'm still bouncing between 199 and 201. I'll update this coming Sunday. The good news is 201 seems to be the new max, so I'm hoping I'll be leaving the 200s behind soon. I'm up to running 2.5-3 miles every other day (see Running thread), so I think that should start helping.

Quite a plateau there, but I'm still moving in the right direction, and plateaus are to be expected. During this same period, though, I've seen meaningful improvements in my performance - reps, endurance, etc.

It's all progress, and if progress lasts you get where you're going.

Missed a few weeks in there, but it was basically a bounce back and forth between 199 and 202. Getting back to official weigh-ins, and started off strong with a 199.0 showing. I've historically lost weight every time I've started running consistently, and the trend seems to be holding true. Still have a ways to go to hit the goal, but I'm happy with the progress.

Weighed in on Feb 24 (the day I started running) at 233.

Weighed in yesterday (May 23) at 218.

So far, so good. I'm sure I could probably lose more if I gave dieting an actual dedicated effort, but I'm mostly just trying to eat less and exercise more. Seems to be working so far. Would love to get under 200, but the more realistic goal for this year is to get under 210 (which would be the first time in at least 15 years).

I'd say I'm past that plateau.

Edited to reverse the order. There are enough entries to scroll now, and it was starting it at the top, which made it look like I hadn't anything since April.

I'm terrified of what the Memorial Day weekend is ultimately going to do to my numbers.

My sister-in-law brought an exceptional Key Lime pie... Between that and the ice cream cake at the start of the holiday weekend, I may be starting from scratch.

Note that memorial day weekend is the celebration of 4 birthdays for our extended family we don't just go all out for the holiday.

Key lime pie here too. This was our first biggish get together since the pandemic started and everybody brought dessert.
