Just watched "Psycho Goreman" via YouTube rental. The trailer led me to think it would bring distraction and entertainment in the face of today's new stressors.

I was distracted, at least.

Psycho Goreman is fantastic fun. I think you have to have enjoyed the films of Brian Yuzna and Screaming Mad George back in the 80s to fully understand what the director was going for though. It’s a giant, silly love letter to those days of glorious, off the wall horror comedies where anything went. The reviews for it are really good (critics and audience), so hopefully it will encourage the director to continue making these wonderfully odd films. Also, making the little girl revel in PGs insane violence at times, and her brother taking over the traditional, stereotyped role of the meek sibling usually given to the sister in these types of films, was inspired.

Side note: the director of this also made the equally fun Manborg and The Void. Both of which I highly recommend. The former is in the same silly vein as PG (but with a shoestring budget that forced him to get inventive and create cheesy backdrops that are hilariously and gloriously awful), while the latter is a great horror film in its own right.

With Manborg I will say that it takes real talent to understand that you don't have the money to go all out, and then make that a damn strength instead of a weakness. I look forward to whatever he does next.

Not a trailer, but I am *so happy* at this news.

Patrick O'Brian's novels should be a cinematic universe just like the MCU.
Since the original was part of a big book series, the idea always was to adapt other books in to films, but a second film never got into position to move forward. Sources say this pic would be based on the first book in the series, which shows a young Aubrey as he is given his first command and also explores how his friendship with his naval surgeon, Stephen Maturin (Bettany), begins. Since this would be set in the early days of Aubrey, it also is likely they would have new talent playing Aubrey and Maturin as well.

Always heard good things on the movie so bought the DVD at a pawn shop years and years ago. And have never watched it. One day. One day.

Probably not. This movie is apparently based on the first novel, when Crowe's character is younger. (The first movie was a mash-up of plot elements from a couple of the mid-series novels.)

Hmm, come to think of it, he's likely not the same physique he was back then. I guess one way they could do it would be to use a framing device where he's telling the story of his earlier life.

I just realized Master and Commander is on Amazon Prime. Going to do a rewatch now. It’s been almost 15 years since last I saw it, I believe. Just have to create the HMS Comfy out of some couch cushions first.

They’re based on a graphic novel, i believe. I enjoyed the first one, but the second one I only watched for John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. They can do no wrong.

"Good" movies? Hmm. Not sure. Fun movies? Absolutely. Malkovich and Mirren steal every scene they are in. Mary-Louise Parker is adorable, and Brian Cox is a treat. The stories? Far-fetched. You'll want to suspend your disbelief and just go along for the ride. But the ride is definitely enjoyable.
