We're taking a little vacation in Naples, Florida. Drove by an IHOP today, they are offering a hiring bonus of $750. For servers.

Almost every restaurant near me is hiring. The managers all tell me that nobody wants to work when they can stay at home and get checks from the government.
The Burger King has a sign outside that says, "Stimulus checks given out each week. Details inside."

$750 is pretty staggering though.

Indeed, there's more than a wee bit of concern from coherent and sensible types that could be a harbinger of inflation.

$750 amortized over a full year at half-time hours (1000) would be $0.75/hr.

Found "Corridor Crew" Youtube channel, of the Corridor Digital VFX house. Some of those videos are pretty f***ing amazing, Like "MCU R-rated" or "Harry Potter R-rated" where they used VFX to add blood and gore, but not making it too out of place, and some of those are just... hilarious, like Malfoy dribbling Potter down the duel court like a basketball, then dunking him. They also do "X reacts" where X can be other VFX specialists, stuntmen, and so on. If you like VFX, it's a great place to learn how it's all made, and what makes BAD VFX bad.

I did much the same, by snagging a made-in-the-USA Oster Fast Feed for a bargain price several years ago. There's simply no comparison to the cheap and shoddy Chinese rubbish typically available at most retail stores. With a little basic maintenance -- i.e. periodically removing, cleaning, and properly lubricating the blade -- it shaves smooth as butter each and every time. I also swapped out the the stock blade for an Andis ceramic blade (as shown here), which is sharper than steel and provides the perfect way to zero gap with an Oster Fast Feed. A ceramic blade also doesn’t heat up as much as the stock steel blade. Suffice to say, it's definitely worth spending more up front on a quality set of corded clippers than faffing around with rinky-dink Chinese junk.
I absolutely agree. I also have that Oster Fast Feed, but haven't swapped out the blade. Thanks for letting me know about it! I've had it for quite awhile and it still cuts like new.
with the number of haircuts i gave myself over the past year, the refurbished Oster Fast Feed clippers and Oster T-Finisher i purchased paid for themselves several times over. but i'm going back to the barber later this month

I have to wonder exactly where the managers are getting this information. Are they asking all the people who didn't apply?

...or has toxic working conditions. Food service is notoriously grueling. If the restaurant industry has to reform itself to offer better paying and more humane jobs, that's a win for everyone, even if it means consumers have to pay a bit more.

I've noticed local restaurant prices rising noticeably -- last night I paid >$60 including tax and tip for takeout. Wife and I each had an entree priced at about $19 and a $5.50 side salad.

Im starting to hate my favorite bank. I want to electronic transfer money from it to another bank account. But In the TO field I dont have the other account and there is no add account option there. The way I have to do it is through another area of the bank,,,BUT.....theres no simple add account and routing number there either. I search for a word..like Regions....and then choose...but their info is old and it brings up Morgan Keegan Regions. But they no longer deal with them so it errors. Theres NO WAY for me to do it.

Regions though is simple...routing and account numbers. But I dont want to move money from them to this one. ARGH Fuck. I cant go fix my account today because Ive been drinking and tomorrow Ill be hit with a double insufficient funds fee. FUCK

I don’t know what the situation right now is, but with the boosts to unemployment check amounts last year there most certainly were lots of people in my area who got a pay increase when they went to unemployment.

Took a while but I found a way to just use my Regions Bank to do it all..I was able to set it all through it and not fool with the other one thats setup so stupid. Not sure how long the transfer will take. Hope its fast as I set up 2 withdrawals when it has only enough for 1.

Rant time.

1. Regions. I finally got the electronic money transfer working yesterday. Today First Horizon says they sent it. Not pending but sent. But Regions has no idea where it is yet. Its not there at all. Not even pending. They said give it to Monday. Damnit I used electronic transfer so it would be instant and I wouldn't have to go to town today. But now I did have to go and put some in. When that goes through I can just get it back out I guess. But fuck.

2. Hardees. The burger I ordered is called a Superstar with cheese. I tell the guy that on the drive thru since they are still f'n closed to ordering it inside. He says "So nothing but cheese on it?"{..No I want everything on it with cheese. "So everything on it. It comes with cheese" Yep duh...I named it the right name to start with. Then says thats a combo right?..NO fucking geez. 2 people had to check the order. Then though Im the ONLY one in the frakkin drive thru they tell me I have to pull up..like 5 feet. So I do. I barely get it in park when they bring it out. Fuck people.

3. First Horizon bank. The inside was closed then it was open then its closed again. 2 or 3 weeks ago they told me the inside is closed because they only have 1 person working. Today STILL CLOSED. Must still only have 1 person because I sat in the drive thru 20 minutes and did not move at all. 3 people in front of me..nothing. Just sitting in the sun with no AC. I finally left. F them. The place has nice people working but seem to only have 1 employee now. If you're going to close the inside at least have the workers to run all 3 drive thru windows. I blame the company for that.

I think I may file a complaint on the bank. Im tired of it. Hire people.COVID and shit is a known thing and you're my bank...fix it.

4, On the way home I get stuck behind gramps and his 70s era pickup smoking its way through a quart of oil every 5 miles.

Well more property taxes next year! My market appraisal has jumped over $30,000 and the assessment is up over $6,000. Joy joy it never ends.

And I see my neighbor is out there mowing for the 3rd time in a week and zooming around MY bush at least 15 feet into MY yard . Since I have no way to mow I guess she thinks they can claim that much from me. I cant afford a survey yet of my land. I wish to fuck I still owned that extra swath on the other side of the bush. Well her tree and my former tree is growing limbs into my side that I find troublesome to mow under. My chainsaw shall fix that up soon.

You have wire transfer taste on an ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfer budget.

The point being, there are significant differences between ACH and wire money transfers in terms of speed, security, and costs. So, if you're in a serious hurry, wiring is the speedier method of transferring funds. But unlike ACH transfers, wire transfers typically do cost you money.

Just got a Shakealert... from Google. 6.0 near Reno. Looks like the actual quake was 4.7... I was like... WTF? Do I need to put on my pants and get ready to run or something?

Looks like Google put this in back in October 2020. It's supposed to give you up to 60 seconds ADVANCED WARNING, but it seems the radius it sent was a bit too far.

I went to the store today. They have taken down all the signs about wearing masks. The store employees still wore them and about half the customers wore them. Including me, which seems odd considering I hate them and don't think they're all that efficient.

Is it sold? Is it available? Are you actually selling this? Who the fuck knows. Send a damn reply at the least. Why do they put stuff up if they dont reply to anyone ARGH.

Was just thinking that next town trip I could buy a town newspaper to look at the for sale section. Then it hit me I have no idea where to buy a copy lol. Used to be machines all over but I dont think Ive seen one in ages. Its like pay phones. Hmmm maybe gas stations or some stores have a copy. I bet the filling station near me has them. I do miss the machines though.

Considering your neighbour has a functional mower along with the ability to use it, have you considered making them an offer to have them mow your lawn while they're at it?

Between your mobility issues and the difficulty you're having merely purchasing a functional mower (let alone the inevitable problems you're likely to run into in terms of adequately maintaining and using such hefty second-hand mechanical equipment), it seems like a prudent consideration. Who knows, perhaps you could even leverage and barter some of your technical proficiency to reach a more favourable agreement? Seems like it's at least worth trying.

I was going to suggest the same thing, but it sounded like maybe there wasn't a good relationship there. :D

Absolutely figure out a trade or something because it sounds like they have a working mower and are motivated.
