And because it has become the norm: Holman, still cool with us going through your house again? I'm starting to think you are the muse.
There's no reason not to search me again. After not being visited by the police for once, I'm feeling lonely.

I didn't think that was even a thing that could happen. I assumed if a copy was given to you, that was made clear to you upon 'resolution of the night'. Also, I thought that anyone who tried to steal from you last night would not have found a book, if you didn't start the night with a book.

Is there a chance you made this story up?

I thought if you stole or are given a play then you could not read it until the next night. And it could be stolen from you before you read it and if more than 1 tries to steal it, the selection is randomized on who steals it.

Going back and seeing if I remember correctly...

Art Student without the Play: Will you Steal or Seduce? (Optional)
Sane Art Student with the Play: Will you Read or Destroy?

Stealing Plays takes place before Destroying Plays at Night. If a Play is targeted for both Stealing and Destruction on the same Night, it is Stolen and not Destroyed. If several thieves target the same player but the target does not have enough Copies to go around, Copies are distributed randomly among the thieves.
I know I read somewhere that you could not receive and read the play on the same night as that is 2 separate actions. Kind of implied above...

Right. Buts thats only if you have a play during the day.
If you dont have it and someone gives it to you at night can it also be stolen on the same night?

Also refresh my memory. Which roles can send a play at night?

Ok.
1) Fine with this. I have no book so …
2) Why would I lie?

You think I’m worried about the vote or getting visited by the Alienist? I’m a bit miffed TBH. I thought I was going to have to worry about going insane but literally after this many nights it’s getting to be pretty hard to do.

Ok. Now that I think about I’m really not sure what the point of Unagi’s vote for me is. If I had a book but I’m not inspired and insane then by calling the fuzz on me just reduces the number of available books. What’s your play?

I still think our best bet is to keep more books in play not reduce them.

Effects of Night Actions take place at the end of Night (the "Night X resolution" PM I send to all of you). Therefore, a stolen/gifted Play only comes into possession of the thief/recipient at Dawn.

When determining whether or not a Night action succeeds, I always check status for the beginning of the Night (not status for the end of the Night).

So - if a player is gifted a Play at Night and is also targeted for Theft that same Night, the same Copy of the Play he was gifted cannot be stolen (yet).

Reading a Play functions the same way. If the Night Order to Read a Play is legal at the beginning of the Night (e.g. player owns a Copy), that Player will become Insane and Inspired by the end of the Night. If that same player is targeted for Theft, he will also lose his Copy at the end of the Night.
But you've seen who's in heaven
Is there anyone in hell?

 Just re-read my PM and got it mixed up. I did have a play that got stolen last night but someone passed me a play also. When I read the PM I thought it was stolen at the same time that I had no play anymore.

So yeah, I kinda outed myself there. :grund:

So don't mind me. I'll just be plucking the petals from this chrysanthemum over here. :happy-smileyflower:

And no votes for me, ok? I want to try and hold on this one. (fat chance)

Good question. Quite a few competing elements here. Its hard to keep straight how each one should play. For now, do we need to search him? We are bound to find a book and we will destroy it.........but if he was passed one, was it copied? I'm agnostic vis a vis it. I think both Lassr & izzy are acting hinky though. So...that's all i got....for now.

Depends if Muse needs to get rid of some lovers, and I misread Hildred;
He wins if at least one Art Student is Insane and not Murdered or Committed at the end of the game (so it seems if more than 1 is still playing he is still good) so, yes, he doesn't need to get rid of insane students.

I'm going to take a gamble here and try to get things moving.

I AM THE MUSE. Right now I have no lovers. Scoop can back me up here, as I messaged him the other night (something only the Muse can do). So far, though, he has spurned my advances.

I am therefore a safe lynch for the rest of the game.

Some thoughts going forward:

--"The game ends when all copies of the Play are destroyed, or when all Art Students are Insane, Murdered or Committed to an Asylum."

--The Muse (who cannot be removed from the game) cannot win without having a (solitary) Lover.

--Hildred (who also cannot be removed from the game, as he is sane) cannot win without an Insane Artist surviving with him.

--The Artists wish to be Inspired (which they can get from me or from the play), but have no real reason to care if Hildred or the Muse also win.

--The easiest path to victory is for all the Artists to keep spreading and reading the play and hope that they are still in the game when the last Artist reads theirs. At that point they're all Insane and the game ends and they win.

--If the game ends with all the Artists insane, Hildred automatically wins as well. Since he is unremovable, he could really just ride out the rest of the game without taking action and still win. However, he's also in a position to make all this easier by murdering the Alienist.

--I would certainly be appreciative if one (and only one) Artist becomes my Lover. The only way to manage this, I think, is for me to reach out and give certain instructions in a private Muse-gram. My message can also include detailed instructions about how you can communicate things to me in the open using code words. (For instance, whether you are insane or have a play or have sent one to someone else, or even whether you have a suspicion about who is the Alienist or Hildred. I have plans for this.)

--THUS, MY MUSE STRATEGY: Please do NOT try to Seduce me without my contacting you first. (Scoop, please disregard the Nudes I sent. The offer is withdrawn for now.)

I'm kind of flying blind here, but I think this gives me the best chance to assist in an Artist/Hildred win and hopefully be a part of it.

I'd be ok seducing you if need be.

Also, if we just want to end the game quick, we could agree to have 1 artist seduce you and the other artists holding onto their book until everyone has one and then on the same night, read it.
This means everyone except the alienist (and Moliere) wins at that point.

Holman is the muse (trust me, the nudes prove it). I had the play the night he contacted me so I decided to follow the book path to victory and I didn't think being the first "seduced" play was a good play because Holman may need me now but might not need me later and I wanted to limit my exposure to insanity as late as possible.

Holman, you've probably lost the game with your announcement. :naughty: Nothing stops all of us from dogpiling you tonight and then destroying our books the next night.

Hey, my heart is on my sleeve here. I figure it's worth a shot.

I concluded that one Muse option was to try to stay undercover and hope I got lucky with just a single lover in place at the end. The problem with this is [1] there's no real incentive for anyone to seduce the Muse unless play copies are very scarce (meaning that the Muse is a valuable path to Inspiration), and [2] if two or more artists became my lovers, I couldn't count on arranging to have the extras murdered or committed without outing myself anyway. (And even then, Hildred and the Alienist would have no incentive to help me win.)

The other Muse option (and the one I took) is to go public and explain what I explained. If enough people cooperate, we--and even the Artists who don't actively cooperate--have a chance to eliminate the Alienist and enjoy a big mega-win.

I suppose it's possible for the Muse to adopt a pro-Alienist, anti-madness strategy, but I couldn't figure out how to engineer that when the Alienist (unlike Hildy and the Muse) needs to stay undercover. Sorry, Alienist!

I hope again that everyone won't just try to "dogpile" me tonight. For obvious reasons.

If you have 2 lovers, you yourself would make the extra one 'insane' on the following night, and you would be down to just 1 lover. That is how I read it.

No. I could make them insane, but they're still my lover. I then have to hope or arrange that they get murdered or committed.

The rules make a Muse win a very hard road. The plan I proposed is probably the only way to make it easier.
