500 users online?!

Post by Carpet_pissr »

Does this seem right to you guys?

“In total there are 514 users online”

This is from stats at bottom of page. Seems like…a lot, no?

521 users online :: 9 registered, 3 hidden and 509 guests
Those "guests" are mostly search bots, no?

We were up to 576 "guests" a minute ago. I'm sure they are search bots but I've never seen that many. Is AI taking over already? :ninja:

Wouldn't surprise me if "X" now has bots indexing the sites that allow embedding so he can charge them a fee.

I'd expect it's some machine learning model indexing most forums containing long-form prose.

I'm happy you feel this way. Can you tell me more about why you expect it's some machine learning model indexing most forums containing long-form prose?

If he's right, this site is likely a gold mine. Who says anachronistic things don't' have value!

Yeah… that’s unusual. I’m not sure wtf that’s about, I’ll try and look in logs to see, being all guests they are likely bots… doing what though..

I'm running Facebook Container. I can't imagine it threw 500 bots off my scent, but there you go.

Couldn't sleep so was up early this morning - noticed this was over 500 users again so I've started poking around.. Found a large number of IP addresses from AWS Singapore connecting, blocked that range and it dropped to 380 users. I'm going to keep digging and blocking, not sure what these bots are up to.

And now it dropped to 161 guests.. Interesting, that's a lot of AWS singapore based bots.

A few more blocks of networks in AWS Dublin, and some "crawlers" registered domain (that ties back to an SEO marketing company not a search engine) and we are down to 23 users. That was a lot of scraping going on! Thanks for bringing it up to my attention.

Sounds just like something an enemy spy bot would say.
I think you should bounce him fellow humans.
