You are correct. I can do another 13 months at this deficit. Well, I can but boy I don't want to. I am so looking forward to finding my maintenance allotment. I'm losing weight more than twice as fast as predicted even with the last slow down. So I'm really really really hoping my maintenance intake is around 2400 calories a day. That sates me pretty well.

I'm about a mile and half walk shy of being able to squeeze in a slice of cake today. Tempted. The cake must get eaten before it goes bad... We see how much organic walking I get as the evening comes on...

Moving from shorts to sweatpants this week as we drop into the low 40s at night. The elastic that was fine in April no longer contracts enough and I need to go shopping. So yay?!

I am not sure what to make of my own weight loss journey.

I know I was close to morbidly obese, which is not helping my diabetes one bit. I replaced my scale in July. At the time, I was 288. My height is either 5'11" or 6", depending on time of day. :D

Now I am between 260 and 265, depending on how hydrated I am. :D

I want the trend to continue, and I know how to control my diet. I eat less than people expect, and I don't usually snack. I guess I just need to learn to recognize what food I should eat and so on.

I haven't been weighing myself much lately because I'm getting too in my own head with it. Have just been concentrating on running and walking. So far it's kept me consistent around the 200 mark. While I'd like to be under that, I'm content right now with just not being over it.

Hovering around 193 since September 26th. I seem to sit in spot for a while and then lose weight all at once for the last few months. The last time my weight was hovering around 200 at the start of August and stayed there for a month. Then I had a rapid decline to 193 in September. The process has worked so far, so I'm not concerned other than wanting to get to a maintenance calorie intake as soon as I can.

I don't believe I really lost 1.8 lbs in a week. It doesn't fit my trend and losing that much that quickly would be unsustainable and border on unhealthy. I touched 183.0 twice last week, and that's what I was hoping for today. But the scale said what it said, and I asked it twice.

If this number does hold, I've reached my goal for the year. We'll see what next Monday brings.

Interesting that you don't trust 1.8 in a week. I have to be more than 3 in a day to go WTF? On a scale that only goes by .5 pounds, my weight will vary by 1.5 pounds or more throughout the day. I'd say wonky scale but it always weighs the same if I step on it three times in a row.

Two years ago I dropped a little over 50 pounds from the beginning of 2021. The buildup to everything that happened recently completely threw me off of my routine, and I gained about half of it back. As hard as I worked to lose it, that really bothered me. I haven't really been keeping up with my logs, but in the last four months or so, I've dropped about 30 pounds, putting me at the lowest I've been in about 25 years. I'm still about 50 pounds north of where I want to be.

So, YTD, -30 pounds.

1.8 is safe if you are carefully managing your nutrition. But you should also keep in mind that scales are a misleading metric, as they weigh absolutely everything, not just 'you.' What you ate yesterday, how long it's been since you went to the bathroom, whether you've had a shower, how much sleep you got, how long since you've exercised, how well hydrated you are, whether you had a cup of coffee before you weighed - that sort of thing alone can shift your weight 5-7 pounds per day. That's why they say that scales should only be used to keep track of trends (whether your weight is generally going up or down, and how fast), not as precision measurements.

My personal rule is to only weigh myself first thing in the morning, buck naked, and only on the days on which I go to the bathroom before I happen to eat or drink anything. It's still imperfect, and I only get one 'good' weigh every week or so, but it minimizes the variances (and getting more data points isn't necessarily useful if those data points are incorrect.)

I weigh myself daily, right after my morning dump, so I'm quite aware of natural daily variations. Half a pound either way is normal variation. Yesterday I clocked 183.6 so I thought 183.0 would be best-case for today; 182.1 is definitely an outlier. If I can bring next week in under 183, that will be a big win. For me, slow and steady is best, as you can see from my weekly history.

Easier on the knees and ankles and lungs and heart and I don't stare through my belly when I lay down to watch TV or wash below it. Not sure how much easier it is on the knees and ankles because impact with a car messed up my entire body and 6.5 months later this 53 year old body is still healing. OTOH, as hard as I've been working, weight loss is mostly muscle mass first, so I've been getting weaker when I should be getting stronger. I've made up my mind that when I hit 189, I am not going to pivot toward even more weight loss, but rather, I'm going to pivot to better weight with some sort of measurables for improving my heart, lungs, stamina/endurance, and strength. That is still TBD. I know it will involve taking my PT and walks and somehow turning them into a formal documentable exercise routine. Before my accident, I was mentally tracking my walks at around 4 miles at 90 minutes and still improving. I'm back to 3.5 miles in 90 minutes, so I have mental goals already WRT walking. At the beginning of 2022, I had to work up a 2.2 mile walk in 60 minutes.

Confirmation that while I can mostly eat freely I do have to at least watch things. A month since my last check and I'm up to 84kg after bouncing around between 83 and 84 for months.

This is a season that is hard for me. I like to cook. For much of the year that isn't too bad but fall makes me think of using fall fruits apples, persimmons, figs, citrus, and various dried fruits (some of which aren't seasonally fall but it is the time that I think of them) and it is difficult to make fruit based things without leaning too much into carbs in some form. Keto baking is going to be my experiment this fall and winter.

This reading is back in line with expectations. A little better than expected, actually, since I lived on restaurant food for a couple of days. Like Madmarcus, I'm transitioning away from my lighter, summer menu toward heartier winter fare -- which means going from weight loss to just trying to hold the line. If I can get down below 182 before we set the clocks back, that will be a big win.

Today marks the first time I've broken 13,000 steps since before my accident. 13,000 steps used to generally be around my daily floor and it earned me a handful of Cheez Its, which are the best ever, when you are on calorie restriction. 13,000 steps used to give me 310 bonus calories in a day. Now it gives me 248. I feel shafted. So not only do I get less than 1900 calories as my base now, less than 80% of what I started with, walking also is cut to around 80% of the bonus I used to get. This is puppies. 189 can't get here fast enough.

I'm thinking of putting multiple locks on my pantry and frig so it's just that much harder to get at the good stuff. I feel that just the act of putting a snack back in the pantry makes it less likely that I'll eat more as opposed to keeping the bag in the ready position on my desk. :idea:

Back in July, according to my scale, I weighted 288. I'm down to 262. So I've technically lost 26 pounds, without trying very hard, in 3 months.

I think my weight have stabilized / plateaued, so I'll probably add a little more exercise into the mix. I admit that I am easily winded, as I've been a slob for decades, and as far as I can tell my standing heartrate is about 80-90 which is not a healthy number. At least my blood pressure seems okay.

My weight tracker lied to me yesterday, so I had my second overage. I walked just enough to allow myself a piece of chocolate before bed. When I woke this morning to post it showed me as one calorie over budget yesterday. I guess in the future I need to leave myself a 100 step leeway. My latest dream of hitting 189 by the end of October looks to be faded but November is looking probable. I'm so ready to be able to move to maintenance intake. I don't remember 1800 calories a day being this hard the last time I did this and I need to be much more committed to maintaining the weight loss this time. Hoping that maintenance intake is around 2500 calories after walking. That should be reasonable for me, I hope.

I have reduced my variance to 3 lbs, staying between 205 and 208 since Jan 1.

Heh, pizza and burritos are still staples for me. Just in much much smaller quantities than they used to be. I just fried up a pound of burger yesterday for burritos for three days. 480 calories per. I can eat three of them plus a coffee with cream and sugar and yogurt and granola per day, provided I walk at least something 7000 steps as my floor. Right now I'm trying to get up to about 13000 steps to an extra coffee today.

My burritos are mostly beans and rice, with a generous portion of cheese. Not a great diet choice but not ridiculously caloriffic. Problem is I make a batch of six, so that's three meals. My pizzas are four servings, so we're having pizza twice. Burger Night became Pizza Night a couple of weeks ago so pizza twice a week is baked in (heh) until Burger Night returns next April.

Despite having pizza and burritos five times last week, I only gained 0.3 lb so it could've been worse. Just have to be a little more judicious this week.

I'm back down to 198 which I think is close to the year's low. I haven't been doing anything in particular other than scaling back alcohol and diet drinks. I didn't drink much before (maybe a beer or two once a week), but I feel it's had a positive impact. I haven't been eating particularly bad, but I'm still far from eating particularly well. I think greatly increasing my water intake, the aforementioned cutbacks, and being just a tiny bit better on portion sizes has done wonders.

Thank you, I so want to move on to maintenance. I'm ready to be 189 and working on strength and being allowed to eat more. I even started jogging for a few seconds a few times during my daily walks to see how that takes. I have some ideas for building strength, endurance, stamina, and heart and lung health though I'm not sure how measurables are going to be expressed. I figure when I hit 189 I want to move to general health improvement (which I still drastically need) but I will also still allow myself to lose weight without explicitly having it as a goal. There's lots to adapt to... any minute now... any minute.

Tied my YTD low from early this month. I'd like to record a weight below 182 before the year is up, but it gets harder as the weather deteriorates. I'm going to have to repurpose some of my walking time to yardwork now that the leaves are leaving the trees. Fall cleanup typically takes me 6-8 hours spread over 3-4 days. I'll still be exercising but my mileage will stagnate.

I'm just logging and consuming what the app says is OK calorie wise and being hungry a lot. Once I hit my goal weight, I'll post some captures of the measurables averages from my phone. I plan to move to average tracking, I think, once I'm consistently 189 or less.

I often push my step count up enough to get an extra small snack at the end of the day, like a 1/4 cup of peanuts or a piece of chocolate. Ironically, the app and calorie counting has made me food obsessed, but I hope to get over this obsession once I get to a maintenance weight calorie level. hope. The nice thing about the app was that it eased me into the kind of calorie deficit I'm at today. After walking, I started out around 2400 calories or more a day in January. That was comfortable for me, while it also kept me from overeating, as I am wont to do. Now after walking, I get to around 2000 calories a day and that's not so great anymore. With cream and sugar in the large quantities of coffee I'm consuming in the morning and a breakfast sandwich, I'm often down 1400 calories for the rest of the day by 0900. That's not a lot to get through 12 hours for me. And yet these last four pounds aren't melting off yet. Any minute now...
