The national nightmare is over. His 7 Super Bowl wins will likely never be equaled. It's like Bond's home run record. It seemed Kareem's point total was unassailable, but LeBron will probably get there. But those are individual records. Team wins are more problematic.

Farve officially retired too, as I recall... apparently multiple times:
Since his first attempt at retirement in 2008, Favre has gotten into a pattern of retiring once a year. First he retired from the Green Bay Packers, then from the New York Jets and finally this year from the Minnesota Vikings.

The only difference between this retirement and the others is the fact that Favre will not be signing to a new team. This time Favre will be coming out of his short retirement to play for the team he just recently retired from.

Harbaugh might have made me worried for the Chargers. McDaniels not so much. Plus there could be some players disgruntled that they didn't keep the interim guy.

I am not excited by this hire and figure in 2-3 years the Raiders will be looking for a new coach.

Maybe. It depends on a LOT of factors. Unless he does the same thing he did in Denver, and try to trade his starting QB and completely bollix it up - then it's all him ;)

While McDaniels talked nice about Carr yesterday the GM wouldn't commit to him. So unless they are going to go after Rodgers this draft is not considered a very good one for QBs.

In other AFC West news, the Denver Broncos are up for sale:

The Pat Bowlen Trust announced today the beginning of a sale process for the Denver Broncos.

Joe Ellis: “Whoever emerges as the new owner will certainly understand what the team means to our great fans and this community.”

Brian Flores has sued the NFL and all 32 teams alleging racism in hiring practices. In one instance, he directly accuses the Giants of interviewing him to falsely circumvent the Rooney Rule, as they already had made their new head coaching decision prior to interviewing him (thanks to a Bill Belichick mistakenly texting Flores, thinking he was Brian Daboll).

Also would seem to dramatically reduce the odds that Flores gets a HC gig, right?

I can see why he'd be mad, given that he did a great job in Miami the last few years and yet seems like he was getting treated as a diversity token vs. less qualified people like Daboll.

Flores is the most qualified coach the Texans have interviewed. Yesterday, there were reports he was the frontrunner. I guess we know what he thought of the Houston job. Le sigh.

In other news, the rumor is that Harbaugh has accepted the Vikings job.

Too many possible jokes about the team getting undressed on the field.

Commanders fits in with the armed forces sponsorships of the NFL. I thought they'd go with something more tactical. Snipers was off the table of course but maybe Riflemen or Surgical Strikes.

Word is Harbaugh will take it if offered, but it hasn't been offered yet. New GM knows him from San Francisco days and wants him, but owners aren't convinced. That's why he headed out to MN today for an in-person interview. I also read that they had a 9 hour interview with the Giants DC yesterday, which seems like more than going through the motions. My suspicion at this point is that Harbaugh ends up in MN, but for selfish reasons I'm hoping they don't offer and he stays at Michigan.

From listening to the radio, it sure sounds like Flores can't get a job because he has too much integrity. He talked about refusing to meet Tom Brady unofficially, offers of $100,000 for every game lost, etc... That might help him against Miami but not against the NFL and racial bias in hiring, even it sure seems like there is racial bias in hiring.

That’s unreal. I don’t have anything against Lovie Smith, he’s a very credible head coach who has had success in the NFL. And he rocks that beard like a king.

How do you wait a month to interview an in-house candidate?

This smacks of trying to appease the mob with a diversity hire (that isn’t named Brian Flores), while also trying to legitimize Josh McCown as an NFL coaching candidate (word on the street was that Pep Hamilton and Josh McCown would be hired on the offensive side of the ball).
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue

Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
