How the fuck are they going to ban defensive shifts? Require each fielder to be in a specific box?

They've alienated the likes of me since the last strike, but if I was even the slightest bit still interested (remember, I used to be a rabid fan), these new rules would kill it dead.

And, I understand that the Cubs have been mathematically eliminated. Perhaps the centerfielder was too inclined to be less than dead center?

They'll just require no more than two infielders on each side of second base. Not particularly complicated.

I'm not sure why anyone would care too much about the shift being banned? I gather the logic is: (1) essentially penalizes lefthanded hitters; and (2) main responsee seems to be to swing for the fences, and they want to get away from every at bat being home run or strikeout.

Boston Red Sox, Trevor Story agree to six-year, $140M contract.

Nice to see the Sox get a marquee free agent. I don't know a ton about Story, but seems like a great player, albeit (I think) coming off a down year.
