router trouble

Found the problem. Last night my net died....or at least I thought it did. It was still not working when I got up. Found that weird. After checking and rechecking the modem it was connecting but I still was not online.

Turns out its my router....or at least its port. Its the main port on it where you plug the net into it It will not light up and work. The other ports on it are fine and I can plug the net into any of them or straight to my cable modem and it works fine as you can tell. But without the main IN port working that means no wireless. SO cant use my tablet or my printer. Both are a sore problem for me as I need both all the time.

So its either do without or find my old slower router which I have no clue where it is. So guess Im out of wireless.

EDIT: Checked on when I bought this...6 years ago. So no warranty Im guessing lol. Looking at routers the TP Link Archer looks cheap and good. Maybe for Xmas :) Unless you guys have ideas what I can do about this ones port.

I'd try replacing the cable first. Ports rarely fail by itself.

The cable works in the other ports and in a router someone donated to me. But that port refuses to work or light up.

Then it's toast.

Given it's that old, does it even do 802.11ac? :) We're already at WiFi 6. :D

Not that I know of. Got it 6 years ago. Been rock steady until it simply quit.

Edit: 802.11bgn

Sometimes I see them in thrift stores with a decent tech collection.

I'd send you my old one but it craps out every 3 - 4 weeks and requires a reboot, and it's a bgn router too.

Im not worried about specs other than speed....unless I should be. I just need something for gig speed. I only have 400 down but it will be gig one day perhaps. My previous router was only 54k and I have no idea where it is. This Asus that broke was 1 gig. The one Im now using which was kindly supplied by someone is also 54 meg only. If it was 54 meg wifi it would do forever but its also 54 meg in the wired connection to my pc so will need faster. You'd think a slower wifi router would still throughput 1 gig from a wired connection from cable modem to router to pc...but nope. Im happy to have it though as without it no wifi for my printer or tablet. Kind of them to let me have it.
