The Philadelphia Flyers announced [01/13/21] that for the first time in franchise history, Flyers players' helmets will feature a sponsorship logo, that of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the global IT services, consulting and business solutions company. The TCS logo will appear on each side of the players' helmets for both home and away games throughout the regular season and the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Amid the pandemic-shortened 56 game season, the National Hockey League (NHL) has for the first time permitted clubs to work this season with corporate partners on this unique sponsorship opportunity.

Have you seen the Penguins' buckets yet? Those are big time ick.

Bobby Ryan makes history for Detroit tonight, scoring his fourth goal in his first three games in the Winged Wheel sweater. It's never been done before.

Caught the first one in game 2 but then the NHL decided to blackout the Red Wings on the app in Chicago.

Ryan was a nice pickup. He made a big deal about game 2 being his first game in an O6 sweater. That checks a box for me.

I bailed on the Center Ice package this year because of a combination of blackouts and audio sync issues.

The corporate logo the Blackhawks have is not overly offensive.
Their play, however, is.

I barely even noticed the Ball logo on the Avs' helmets. The logo is pretty muted, and the color fits. Some of the other teams were not so lucky with their corporate sponsorship :D

I also had no idea that the Pepsi Center in Denver was renamed to Ball Arena. Only found that out during the first Avalanche game, when the commentators mentioned it, and I was, like, "they are playing where?"

100% aware. The PNC logo on the Canes helmet is not as clean as the Scotiabank logo, which is why I'm declining the trade.

Finding games is hard enough as it is.
All of these companies splitting into other channels is getting out of hand.

This one's being sold to us as being a consolidation.

I posted earlier in this thread where I watch my games. What's a channel?

Until I can figure out if/how I can stream to my tv, those options are a no go for now,

Between NHL.tv, NBCSN (well, soon to be USA and probably Fox or ESPN), and NHL Network, and the local RSN, I can watch all the games I need to. On my TV. *shrug*

Chromecast. From my computer to my TV. Works great.

I use volokit.com, but I'm gonna take note of the other options that Meal provided ;)

I don't want to watch just any games...I want to watch my team play. And these days in Colorado, if you are a Comcast subscriber, it ain't happening. Even if you pay for NHL Center Ice or the game is on NBCSN, it gets blacked out locally.

It seems my team decided it will not compete this season and offers no reason to watch anywhere, anytime. It's a sports-free winter since our NBA team liked that plan and is imitating the hockey team.

Watching Washington vs. Pittsburgh is like watching Dallas vs. New England. I hope someone wins in regulation just so neither of them get a bonus point and because they can't both lose.

In the second period alone, I've seen Crosby trip the opposing player on a faceoff and trip Dowd, who's going off with a leg injury as his right leg folded his back over Ruhwedel's stick, and Ruhwedel winds up with the Tripping call. Luckily, Dowd came back out, so no major harm done.

Spoiler:
Maybe if you're a mic'd up ref, you shouldn't express how you wanted to call a penalty against a team earlier in the game, changing how you ref the rest of the game.

"It wasn't much but I wanted to get a fuckin' penalty against Nashville early in the..."
And how am I not surprised that the ref in question is Tim Peel? Seriously, I don't know any ref names, I don't pay that much attention, but his officiating in Avalanche games over the past couple of seasons was so blatantly shitty that I actually remembered.

NHL fired him today, but it's still debatable whether they care more about the "make-up call" comment or the fact that he dropped an f-bomb on live TV.

I'm not sure and we don't have good context about what he was actually saying. We only got a fragment here. I've refereed hundreds of games - not at a pro level but I wonder if this was an overreaction. I've never been a fan of make up calls but we don't know if that is what he was talking about here. Perhaps he had warned the teams about crashing the goalies early in the game, or at the officials meeting before the game, and wanted to make an example of them since he expected it. Unless I'm missing some of the context here it is hard to know if this was appropriate or not.

A 97 Rock Morning Bull DJ has been terminated after he compared toast to Black women's skin tones on Wednesday's Morning Bull podcast.

It appears to be Rob Lederman comparing skin tones initially, and then Chris Klein joins. The voice of Rich "Bull" Gaenzler can be heard saying, "K." Wednesday's full podcast no longer appears on 97 Rock's website.
Image
Cumulus Media has terminated Lederman. "Bull" and Klein have been suspended.
...
Pegula Sports and Entertainment released a statement Wednesday afternoon stating that Gaenzler has been terminated from his duties as the in-arena host for the Sabres and Bandits.
...
University at Buffalo Athletics released this statement regarding Gaenzler's role:
"The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics is committed to sustaining a culture of diversity and inclusion and strongly denounces racism in all forms. Rich Gaenzler is not currently under contract with UB Athletics. We will move forward with selection of another public address announcer for UB football games next season."

New Jersey embraces the suck
Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac were traded to the New York Islanders by the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

New Jersey receives forwards A.J. Greer and Mason Jobst, a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Palmieri and Zajac can each become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
