Kudos to the Bills for taking care of business in Foxboro.

Boo to the Chargers for playing way below their competition. Their defense does not look like it could stop a well coached high school team. Even if they somehow sneak into the playoffs they will be one and done.

I understand that Madden was a big deal to the NFL, but did anyone else cringe at his broadcasts? Stuff like:

If you're a a quarterback, you really don't want to take a sack on third down, because that puts your team in a really tough spot...

I realize that sounding "dumb" was part of his schtick, but I found it grating.

Every announcer says dumb stuff. It’s inevitable when you are talking off the cuff for three hours straight. Madden was an all-time great at it.

One of the dumbest sentences I've ever heard a human say was uttered by John Madden on a broadcast. It was back in the mid-1990s when they first started putting speakers in helmets so that coaches could call plays in to the player. JM noted that the speakers were rated in Ohms, which he said might stand for "Auditory Honing Mechanism". Which doesn't even spell Ohm (which also isn't an acronym).

But I also loved listening to the Madden broadcast.

Man, a couple weeks ago I was getting all hyped for the inevitable Brady - Patriots Super Bowl which 99.9% of the country would have hated. Oh well - I guess we'll have to settle for Brady v. Mahomes part III.

One of my all time favorite moments was during a game when the broadcast went to a camera pointed to the ground. Madden started doing Xs and Os of the tangle of cables, "This one wants to go over here, this blue one is headed this way..." Madden and Summerall were an event, didn't matter who was playing.

It was maybe two decades after that that I realized that the NFL is mostly just bullshit but it still makes for great entertainment. I never got professional wrestling but I get the NFL.

NFL
With Tampa Bay's offense in the midst of a third-quarter drive against the New York Jets, the star wideout pulled off his helmet, jersey and pads, waved to the fans at MetLife Stadium and ran into the tunnel. Video showed teammate Mike Evans attempting to restrain Brown from removing his uniform.

Brown reportedly had been benched by coach Bruce Arians prior to leaving the field, per Bucs sideline reporter TJ Rives. The team told The Athletic's Greg Auman it would not address the matter until after the game.
...
A week ago, Brown went on a long rant following his first game in two months, objecting to questions about Arians supporting his reinstatement from a three-game suspension for violating the joint NFL-NFLPA COVID-19 protocols.

Yes! The Dolphins and Ravens both fall to 8-8, a dream scenario for the Chargers who now control their own destiny. But historically this is where they lay an egg. Although the the fix could be in against Denver, for the NFL to set up a winner take all Chargers at Raiders in week 18.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians told the media after Tampa Bay's 28-24 comeback win that Brown was no longer with the team.

"He is no longer a Buc. That's the end of the story," Arians said.

You would think teams would stop signing him. I guess with how easy it is to kill NFL contracts the risk is low, but geez.

It's not official, but the Colts are in (they play the Jags next week). That leaves the only open spot the winner of the Chargers - Raiders.

NBC Sports
So why did Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown leave the field during the game? His head coach told him to.

Via Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Bruce Arians said that he was trying to get Brown to enter the game, and that Brown refused. Arians tried again, and Brown refused again. At this point, Arians told Brown to get out.

Arians said he say Brown removed his jersey, shoulder pads, T-shirt, and gloves.

“Never seen anything like it in all my years,” Arians said.

Hoping for a head coach change announcement any day from the Panthers. Dude has fumbled the QB quandary HORRIBLY, and doesn't seem to have any ideas (that he has shared at least) as to how to fix it. Cam was a bust. Now what, back to Darnold? Come on, man.

Any decent free agent QB's other than old Rothlisberger?

So if I read it correctly in the NFC, if the Rams beat the 49ers and the Saints beat the Falcons, the Saints are in and the 49ers are out. Eagles have clinched.

Yep and I hate it. we beat the eagles we have the same record we should be in. But there is no head to head. And it's based on strength of schedule

Word now is it that AB refused to go back in because his injured ankle was bothering him and Arians and other offensive coaches told him if he didn’t go back in he was off the team. Still a terrible look for him to go out that way, but perhaps puts it in a bit of a different light.

As for the Panther’s QB situation, I wonder if they’ll try to draft Sam Howell….

I saw that mentioned somewhere, but also mentioned that it was a long shot, but I don't remember why - I assume because we probably won't be in the top 5 worst teams, and he would go early? Is he really that good, or is there just a dearth of even decent QB's this draft? I don't really keep up with that stuff.

I don't remember seeing anything amazing from him that screamed "NFL Quarterback" when we played against him in the Mayo bowl, but then again, I am not an NFL talent scout.

He’s easily the best QB in UNC history, although that by itself isn’t saying much. The offensive line was incredibly bad this year and almost all our offensive weapons from last year left for the NFL and Howell still put up pretty good numbers (3,000+ yards, 24/9 TD/Int, 62.5% completion, 1000+ yards and 11 rushing TDs). He was better throwing the ball last year (68%, 3500 yards, 30/7) although he didn’t run much, but that was with established receivers.

I haven’t looked at any draft projections, but my guess is he’ll be something like the 4th or 5th QB taken. Maybe the Panthers can snag him in the 2nd round.

RE: Antonio Brown, stolen from reddit.

Code: Select all

He's literally insane:

• Kicked out of Florida International University after fighting a security guard

•"Don't touch me. I'm the franchise"

• His second year in the league he took a personal stretch limo to a charity event, had them open every single expensive bottle of wine, rejected it. Refused to pay for it (charity, remember), then left. -credit Nduguu77

• Threw fits over not getting enough targets

• Drove 100 down McKnight Road in Pittsburgh, which has a 45 MPH speed limit

• Trashed a condo and threw furniture out a window 14th floor window, which almost hit some people, notably a child

• Killed a home aquarium full of piranhas and refused to pay the man who installed the tank

• Refused to play week 17 for the Steelers

• Dyed his mustache blonde

• Refused to pay a chef because he thought he threatened him by placing a fish head in the freezer (the fish head was saved to make a soup)

• Farted on a doctor

• Demanded a trade from the Steelers

• Became "Mr. Big Chest"

• Threw a fit over Juju winning team MVP and trashed him on social media

• (Allegedly) nixed a trade that would've sent him to the Bills

• Showed up to Raiders training camp in a hot air balloon

• Held out and refused to show up to training camp because the NFL would not approve his helmet because it was too old for their safety standards

• Froze his feet

• Tried to paint over his old helmet, hoping no one would notice I guess

• Acquired a newer version of the same model of helmet, which the NFL refused to let him use

• Picked out a new helmet and finally showed up to the Raiders

• Got fined by the Raiders for not attending camp

• Tweeted the fines

• Tried to fight Mike Mayock, called him a cracker, had to be held back by Vontaze Burfict, then punted a football down the practice field and said "fine me for that"

• Got fined for that

• Released a video where he used audio of Jon Gruden, who didn't know he was being recorded, which is illegal in California (full disclosure, Gruden has said he gave permission, but the generally accepted theory is that he said that in the hope that it would help get him to show up to the facility and not alienate him)

• Demanded a release from the Raiders

• Was released

• "GRANDMA I’M FREEEEEE! FLY LIKE A FREEEEE!"

• Made a lot of crazy tweets saying stuff like 'Devil is a lie', a proverb about burning down a village... he made a lot of crazy tweets around this time is the point here

• Liked a tweet about Mayock getting raped in the ass

• Signed with the Patriots

• Moved in with Tom Brady

• The sexual assault allegations came out (the one where he's getting sued)

• The sexual harassment allegations came out (the one where he's not getting sued)

• Threatened the woman not suing him in a group text that included his lawyer and had a picture of her kids in the text

• Got released by the Patriots after one week

• Went off on a tweet storm and said a lot of crazy shit about a lot of people, and was supportive of people sending threats to the writer of the article detailing the sexual harassment allegations

• Said he was done with the NFL

• Went back to college via online classes

• Tried to outsource his homework to Twitter

• Wants to come back to the NFL

• Filed several grievances to try and get more than $40 million from the Raider's and Patriots

• Was ordered to show up for a deposition regarding trashing the condo

• Was accused of "reprehensible behavior" during the deposition Note: I cut the specifics about the deposition so I could fit this as a single comment. You can read more about it here if you're interested, because it, like everything else, is nuts

• Said that the Patriots have to pay him anyway, so they might as well let him play

• Tweeted a couple of bizarre tweets about the Raiders using him for HBO ratings and the Patriots trying to steal his stuff and kept using this weird chicken based metaphor

• Tried out for the Saints and brought an entourage and film crew to shoot a music video with him when specifically told not to do that

• Called out Robert Kraft for his rub and tug massage session in Florida

• Starting training for a boxing match with Logan Paul

• Tweeted "No more white woman 2020"

• The attorney representing him in the suit involving the condo quit

• Used a bunch of slurs and profane language towards cops in an Instagram video he posted

• A police youth football league cut ties with him and returned a donation after the release of the video saying there was a "irreparable rift" between the department and AB

• Threw a bag of gummy candy dicks at the cops in a video he posted

• Got dropped by his agent

• Was involved in a disputed with movers at his home where he allegedly threw rocks at the movers and moving vans. He is currently being investigated for battery by the police.

• His trainer was arrested and he is still a suspect in the battery case.

• Warrant issued for the arrest of AB.

• AB turns himself in to Broward Country Jail wearing this suit

• Rumors spread about AB signing with Tampa or Seattle

• AB announces his retirement (for what I believe is the third time, it's hard to find a good record of the rest of them)

• Two days later AB wants to play again and is asking for the league to wrap up it's investigation

• The NFL announces an eight game suspension for AB

• AB signs with the Buccaneers on a one-year deal

• Before he signed with the Buccaneers AB was accused of destroying a surveillance camera at a Florida gated community, throwing bike at a security-guard shack, and is not charged because HOA president "feared" retaliation, per police report

• AB is under investigation by the NFL for the bike throwing incident

• Allegedly acquired fake covid-19 card

• confirmed to have acquired a fake covid-19 card and subsequently suspended for three games

• Removed jersey and pads and threw them in the stands before exiting the games verse the Jets.

• Was subsequently cut from the Bucs for stripping on the field.

Wow, is all of that true or is some rumor mixed in?

Showed up to Raiders training camp in a hot air balloon?! WTF man, is that some Wizard of Oz thing?

OK, I actually had to look that one up. And while it's a bit weird, from what I could tell, he didn't actually SHOW UP to training camp in a hot air balloon (based on the videos I watched). My mind's eye saw a hot air balloon actually landing on the practice field or some shit, in a grand, flashy entrance, but no, nothing like that. Just some low-fi video of him mumbling some weird shit about "everybody knows Napa is known for their hot air balloons".

TBH, I was a bit disappointed to not see a video of him descending onto some lush gridiron in a golden, flame wooshing balloon, players on the ground, mid-play, suddenly squinting up at the sun-god descending on them to bestow his gifts upon them. That would have been a LOT cooler than what I watched. :P

That's a good point. Reevaluating, Howell probably won't be available for the Panthers as I'm certain the Bears will trade up to take him #1.

Not in the slightest, no. Kelly would be ecstatic for Buffalo finally having a championship.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
