Correct. I spent last weekend getting my ass handed to me by two different people.

The original Axis and Allies game was easy to learn and easy to see and easy to play.
Looks like they decided to change that approach.

I just tried a single player game and I have a lot to learn with this one. Mostly with how the game works, can't do an amphibious assault, and a lot of move rules are different now. Trying to figure out how to cancel a move.

Start by selecting the transport, right-click on the units to load, right click on the destination. Also covered in Learn to Play scenario 3.

Use the unit info window in the lower left. You can cancel a move, load per unit or all together.

I meant can't figure out how to get a CA or BB to support an amphibious assault.

Once you have a landing started:

Image

Select the BB/CA and it will highlight the landing as an attack option.

Then it will permit you to fire in support.

I got the invite and am willing to playing but what do I do next? The game hasn't started and there's no where to click "I'm in".

I don't really care who I play..........maybe Russia or Japan.

Ah, my problem was I moved the transport with soldiers to the seazone of the island instead of to the island itself where I wanted them to land and then was tying to unload them thus it wouldn't let me send the BB to that zone.

Okay I clicked on Russia and it said I had to wait for another person and then just sat there and looked at me. I clicked on leave to see what happened and now the game doesn't exist.
This is ominous.

Rather than hitting leave, use the X in the upper right, then you can go elsewhere. I got a notification that you'd joined, but not seeing you on the list.

Looks good.

I had to kill the first game and start a new one, as it wouldn't allow me (that I could find) to resend an invite.

I'm zenn7 (apparently, it's good enough for there).

Thought about Zenn the zanier (not as zany as the zaniest but zanier than the zany), but even though it let me type all of that, wasn't sure it would take it (not to mention, it's a little long to relay).

Not on Discord. Is there an OO Discord channel (is that what Discord calls them?)

EDIT: There is an option to join a custom game - is that just some rando's open custom game?
EDIT2: yes, it is just some rando's game.

Ok, so based on the folks who got the initial invites it looks like a game is already full:

Isgrimnur
Lassr
stessier
dbt1949
redfive

So I will start a new game and invite El Guapo and Zenn7. Guys, I will need your steam names I believe. Anyone else who wants to join game #2 just let me know.

I've completed the tutorial. Hope the real game lets me cancel moves - I wasn't focusing on the objective - didn't know I had to move the transports in to attack immediately after loading and was still clicking around trying to figure out how to do it. A restart and figured out how to move, a second restart required after I discovered move had to be immediate with the transport after loading.

Got the basic idea so long as it will let me actually cancel when I don't move the transports right away (or otherwise misclick), should be good to go.

Ga;me 1 - you playing more or less interactively (all online playing now), or just popping in now and again to play your next turn?

Game 2 - do I need to stick around for invite or just check back later and join then and we'll just play a turn whenever we happen to log in?

Just trying to get a feel for how we do this. I've only ever played MMO's or PBEM and Dominion - which was a hosted server we submitted our turns to.

If you are both online, you can watch your opponents moves in something close to real time. Otherwise, you can read the recap after the fact.

Just a tutorial issue that it wouldn't let me cancel then. Playing a single player game while waiting for invite. Glad I did that, used to an older version, fewer territories and stuff.
