Has this been mentioned yet?

He wanted to ban feeding homeless people. Now he’s about to lead a federal homeless agency
A consultant known for urging cities to stop “enabling” homeless people, in part by blocking charities from handing out food, has been tapped to lead the agency that coordinates the federal government’s response to homelessness.

Robert Marbut, who has worked with several cities, including Fresno and several other California cities and counties, would succeed Matthew Doherty as executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.

Doherty, an Obama administration appointee, was ousted by the Trump administration last month.

The shift in leadership comes as President Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to crack down on street encampments in Los Angeles, San Francisco and elsewhere in California.

Cruelty is the point:
The Trump administration Wednesday formalized work requirements for recipients of food stamps, a move that will cause hundreds of thousands of people to lose access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Brandon Lipps, the deputy undersecretary for the USDA’s Food Nutrition and Consumer Services, spent about 18 minutes on a call with reporters outlining the changes to the rule that will take effect April 1.
...
The USDA rule change affects people between the ages of 18 and 49 who are childless and not disabled. Under current rules, this group is required to work at least 20 hours a week for more than three months over a 36-month period to qualify for food stamps, but states have been able to create waivers for areas that face high unemployment

The new rule would limit states from waiving those standards, instead restricting their use to those areas that have a 6 percent unemployment rate or higher. The national unemployment rate in October was 3.6 percent.

During the call Wednesday, the USDA said that about 688,000 people would lose access to food stamps. That’s down from its earlier estimate that 750,000 people would be affected.

The USDA said that this was an extension of President Donald Trump’s April 2018 executive order, called “Reducing Poverty in America by Promoting Opportunity and Economic Mobility,” that aimed to create more work programs and limit public assistance.
Shameful, but apparently on-brand.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

There is not a single MSA with over a million people that has an unemployment rate over 4.5%.

There are 384 MSAs that won't qualify.

This is so true, along with nominating totally unqualified people for positions. Trump nominated a radio talk show host for chief scientist at the Agriculture Department - and he never took an undergraduate course in a science course:

https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/07 ... scientist/

Luckily, he withdrew his nomination for other reasons.

Trump again and again appoints incompetent people for various positions but I think that's part of the plan. Gut the government of good employees, appoint idiots, then nothing will get done.

It's a good way of doing nothing if you need to look like you're doing something. You just put something in motion that's guaranteed to fail, and it burns the clock as effectively as doing nothing.

It didn't start with Trump. e.g. Reagan's Secretary of the Interior (James Watt) was outspokenly anti-environmentalist.

Trump once again echos anti-Semitic tropes:
Donald Trump has been accused of antisemitism after he told a pro-Israel Jewish group they will vote for him to protect their wealth.

Mr Trump referred to members of the Israeli American Council as “brutal killers” and “not nice people” but claimed they would vote for him to avoid a wealth tax, as proposed by Democratic challengers Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Yup.

Realistically, given that Trump basically doesn't read, the "report" he was given was probably a print-out of a short email from Bill Barr.

He was almost certainly given a one-page 'summary' of the report carefully phrased to not trigger an outburst.

He was probably given said summary in the form of a puppet show.

So, the PotUS is jealous that a 16-year old girl beat him out as Time's Person of the Year. What a time to be alive!
Climate activist Greta Thunberg has changed her Twitter bio to mock US President Donald Trump's outrage at her winning Time Person of the Year 2019.

He said she had an "anger management problem" and should go to "a good old fashioned movie with a friend".

"Chill Greta, Chill!" he added.

She then adapted her Twitter bio to say she was "a teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend".

The Swedish 16-year-old was named as Time magazine's Person of the Year on Wednesday after leading a global movement against climate change.

The saddest thing about Trump world is that anybody who wants to help others or help humanity itself is seen as an enemy to be mocked and ridiculed.

It reminds me of my high school days when I had to hide the fact I made straight As in order to not be relentlessly mocked. I had to pretend to skip school just to win even partial acceptance from peers.

The GOP is bully culture, and if there's one thing I can't FUCKING stand it's a bully.

They lash out because their culture is waning. Already, they have to lie and cheat (gerrymandering, voter suppression, foreign collusion, intimidating migrants, rigging the census, opposing a free press) to steal elections. In a few more election cycles -- assuming we keep having those -- even that won't be enough. It gets harder and harder for them to win fairly on the power of ideas and character, because they are now totally bankrupt in those departments.

What bothers me most is that they still hold themselves up as the embodiment of American values, when they are really their antithesis.

I remember when John Kerry got swiftboated. That's when I decided R was a bunch of shitty people. Buncha hypocrites.

I kinda don't respect anybody who voted R since then. Seems like lots of people are outraged more recently than that. Shrug, just sayin'...

My high-school best friend and I were Reagan Youth together in 10th grade.

By the time we were seniors (1987), I had begun to separate from conservatism on social issues. Tom always wanted to be a naval officer and was accepted to VMI, but I was very surprised to hear him denounce Reagan over Iran-Contra. He genuinely hated Oliver North as a liar and betrayer of the Constitution.

Over the years Tom and I drifted apart, but I could tell from a few contacts and (later) social media that he was still pretty conservative. He left the navy after one tour and went to a strategy think tank, but after 9/11 he re-enlisted and was in Kabul in Naval Intelligence for a few years.

It's too bad we're out of touch. I'd kind of love to know whether a conservative willing to reject Iran-Contra in 1987 has been able to resist the siren song of Trumpism today.

Definitely but he certainly fits the background to be a #nevertrump type. The officer class largely despises Trump.

Unfortunately on balance near half of the enlisted support Trump so blindly that they dont think of Russia as an adversary. Insane times.

After the GOP allows Trump to get away with extortion and election interference the real question becomes what will they let him get away with next? How far will our systems be allowed to erode before they say enough is enough? Or are they already past the point of no return? If the Senate GOP holds at 100% no on impeachment then I think we are fucked. I'm specifically looking at people like Romney, Collins and even Rob Portman in Ohio. If they aren't willing to stand up for what is right on this one then they never will be.

It's not a surprise. Trump has floated the idea several times as a "joke" to test the waters. He's even floated the "stolen time" idea.

It's more shitting on the Constitution from Trump and the anti-Constitution GOP.
