Red Dead Redemption 2

Post by tru1cy »

Rockstar has begun teasing a new game and it looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 is about to be officially announced

Cross posted from GT. Added this to Console section since RDR came out for the consoles and hasn't hit the PC yet

It's about time we got a new Table Tennis game, but I'm not sure I understand why they're apparently having it set in the Wild West.

Boo! (though I'm all for promoting this game).

I keep hoping it will be tied to an announcement that Red Dead Redemption is being remastered and released on Win10 as well...but that's likely wishing for too much, right? I'm still using my old Xbox360, but if this new game doesn't support Win10, I'd likely buy a new console to play it.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" seems to have been just announced as a title, though it may just be a placeholder until a full announcement. Releases Fall 2017. Trailer coming Thursday October 20th at 11AM ET.
Insert witty comment here.

EDIT: Should I be concerned that only the PS4 and XboxOne logos are at the bottom of that page? Nothing for the PC Gaming master race? :(

IIRC, GTA V was first announced on xbox and playstation before the PC announcement.

I would really, really like a re-master of the original on PS4/PC.

Scorpio and PC are missing, but the Scorpio might be able to play XB1 games, so it's probably why it isn't listed

I would insta-buy it at full price (and hope it was a good port). I'm also hoping all is revealed on Thursday via the trailer and RDR2 is indeed coming to PC.

On the one hand on a console you have crappy draw distances and the facial features look like they were taken from a zombie mannequin. On the other hand sitting in my nice leather lounge chair in front of my 50" TV does have its advantages..

Only 50 inch? Sounds like it's past time for an upgrade.

On a totally different note I'm really stoked for this game and can't wait, PC version is irrelevant to me personally. (Though it would be nice if it does happen...)

Crap, I forgot to come in here and update the thread. I am still confident this will come to PC. The screen shots shared here are insane. I also don't believe it will actually be released in the Spring of 2018. I'm thinking late summer, early fall - just in time for the holiday rush. But yeah, it needs to be on PC. Needs.

I think the PC is dead largely.. I use a macbook for my typey stuff at home, and a windows machine at work for email -- otherwise that's it. Gaming is on the console, for old guy casual gamers like me -- the economics just don't make sense for PC gaming.. Drop a couple grand on a gaming rig, or fund years of console gaming (console + games) without having to replace components to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Those have to be pre-rendered screenshots (i.e. not in-action). If not,

I like to think of them as screen shots from a PC that's running the game and they're scrambling to make it look that good on the current generation consoles, hence the delay.

Dittoish.. Unless something fails, I generally only upgrade my video card every couple of years, but I like to have high end cards. You can usually stretch them out longer then I do.

I loved the Marston character. Id love to play him again. But since they did what they did in that stupid ending of the first one the only way I could play him is in a prequel. Set in the time of him being an outlaw. Might be cool. But I doubt they will revisit that character in RDR2.

I remember playing RDR online with some of you. Fun times. 7 years ago. Hard to believe. I was 40 I or 41. Yeesh.

Man, I don't know. I loved RDR, even though I never finished it. I actually kind of sucked at it, truth be told. I could never get the handle of controlling the durn game. But I loved the story that I was able to uncover in my multiple brief forays into the game, and really liked the character of John Marston, because he was (at least through what I was able to uncover) a sympathetic character. It appears that the lead character in this one is not. I hope that I am wrong, but the idea of running a game with a gang of murderous thugs does not appeal.

Playing a crazy murderous guy in GTA 5 was fun, maybe they're trying to do the same thing here.

Loved the first one, certainly one of the most memorable games I have ever played (and actually finished after pausing for a long time due to burning out for doing too much for too long in the open world ... my typical issues with these types of games)

I think they (still) missed a lot of opportunities in the first one, story-wise (for example the nice storyline with the female farmer whose name I forgot early in the game just ... stopped/ended at one point) but the feeling of the world they created was fantastic.

Really looking forward to the new one!

I would be surprised if you "need" to (especially given the fact that RDR1 was only available on certain platforms and I'm sure they don't want to limit their audience for RDR2). I really enjoyed it so it's probably still worth playing

Overall, I would say that the "story" in RDR1 was of lesser importance. It started quite strongly and then almost disappeared over the course of the game. Also:

Spoiler:
If I remember correctly, most antagonists of RDR1 die at the end ...

A great thing about the GTA games is that they've been generally stand alone, so you don't need to play the old ones to enjoy each new segment.

I've only recently got an Xbox One, and RDR 1 was the first game I bought.
Haven't gotten very far into it, but what I experienced gameplay wise didn't grab me at all.
