The Meal's 2010 Longmont Tournament — fin

Post by The Meal »

As discussed and recruited here.

Game Play
  1. My judgment supercedes any and all rules.
  2. All actions take place in this thread (unless OO croaks, in which case we move to email).
  3. All discussion of the tournament takes place in this thread (not on the phone, via PMs, emails, face-to-face, etc.). Do not edit posts in which betting (or calling, or raising, or checking, or folding) action has taken place.
  4. Betting actions should be stated unambiguously: Call, Raise to/by <amount>, Check, Fold, Bet <amount>.
  5. Raise <amount> will be treated exactly the same as Raise by <amount>, just like in a brick-and-mortar casino.
  6. All actions take place in turn. Out-of-turn actions are not necessarily binding (especially if cards have not yet been shown), depending on my ruling.
  7. Contact the next player (or me) via Private Message (PM) after you've taken action. This helps the game flow at its maximum pace. Don't count on receiving PMs to know you're on the clock, keep checking the thread.
  8. Take action within 24 hours of the previous action or you may be skipped over (checked/folded as appropriate). I am under no obligation to get turns out every 24-hours, though I'll certainly try to keep things moving. Do not skip over players until I've come in an announced that it is the next player's turn.
  9. Feel free to contact (PM) me to schedule out-of-turn actions, including stepping away from the table. Announce your triumphant return to the table directly.
  10. Timing out twice consecutively will result in being set as away from the table.
  11. Displaying graphics for cards ( :As: ) is considered to be showing your cards. One cannot "show" an incorrect card, and if caught I will correct what was shown. Words typed (Ace of Spades) is considered table conversation and will not be corrected if deceitful.
  12. All hands participating in a showdown will be shown. No rabbit hunting.
  13. This tournament is for posterity only. No monetary benefit goes out to the winner.
  14. Blind levels will go up every 35 "clicks." Each hand increments the click counter by the number of players in the tournament at the time the hand is dealt.
  15. Everyone begins with 300 chips.
  16. The structure is as follows:
    1. Blind Level. Low-card bring-in. (No antes.)
    2. 1
    3. 2
    4. 3
    5. 4
    6. 5
    7. 6
    8. 8
    9. 10
    10. 13
    11. 16
    12. 20
    13. 25
    14. 35
    15. 50
    16. 70
    17. 100
  17. A bet may be of any size between the low-card bring-in and your entire stack. There is no requirement for a bet to be a multiple of the low-card bring-in.
  18. (Non all-in) raises must be of a size between that of the action taken ahead of you to the size of the second-largest stack among active players. There are three types of actions taken ahead of you:
    1. there is a bet (note, the bring-in is considered a bet) with or without calls following,
    2. there has been a bet and a raise (again, with or without intervening calls between you and the raiser), and
    3. there has been a bet, a raise, and any number of raises to follow (possibly followed by callers).
The minimum amount you can raise BY is, in the case of a., the size of the bet; in the case of b. the amount of the raise BY, and in the case of c. the amount of the most recent raise BY. Note that raises TO must include the total number of chips involved in calling all raises.
  19. Attempts to put chips in the pot (via a declared "bet" after a bet has been established, or by declaring a raise) at half or more of a legal raise will result in a minimum raise. Attempts to put fewer than half of a legal raise into the pot will result in a call.
  20. A player may raise for less than the minimum in the case of an all-in raise. All-in raises of an amount less than the minimum raise in the previous rule do not reopen the betting for further raises by remaining active players.
  21. Players are dealt three cards, two hidden "hole cards," and one up "door card."
  22. The low card showing (suits ranked in reverse alphabetical order) pays the mandatory bring-in bet. Betting action proceeds from that point.
  23. Three board cards are shown ("the flop") followed by a round of betting. Betting begins with the best hand made up of the board cards and up cards. Again, suits matter in case of ties.
  24. A turn card is shown, and betting begins with the best showing poker hand.
  25. A river card is shown. The best five-card hand determines the order of betting. In the case of a tie, ff players' up-cards are not used then the earlier-betting hand of the turn round will lead the betting.
  26. At showdown, the best high hand is awarded the pot based on five-card hands. A player may use 0, 1, or 2 of the cards dealt to them. Under no circumstance may a player use all three of their personal cards to make their best showdown hand.
Seating
Everyone drew a card, and players were seated in order from high-card to low-card. The following list is Seat #, Card Drawn, and Player Name. Note that there is no dealer button needed.

PMs are wonky of late. There's a thread in The Overlords Meta Forum spelling out the issue. One of the problems is that it isn't obvious if a PM doesn't go through.

This game confuses me. Doesn't Remus call to me?

That is a joke. In pretty much ever tourney ever, including both of Meals, we have drawn to sit next to each other. Except in Meal's multi table tourney. Even in the CO. tourney of 400 people we drew next to each other.

No, but I figured if I lost 55 I wouldn't be horribly hurt and you might fold into that bet. I figure you have a medium/high pocket pair, maybe 10s, but that will be good enough.
