I have to be in the right mood for it, but when I am, there are few bands who capture base, raw, unbridled fury like Full of Hell can.

Years ago, there was an International Flute Festival at Grant Park, where the Grant Park Symphony played before Millennium Park was built. Ian Anderson was part of that festival. After the academic stuff was complete, Jethro Tull played a full, free set.

Speaking of misheard lyrics, long ago Ozzy Osbourne was interviewed on Bob Costas' "Later" show. I remember Ozzy admitted the first time he heard Purple Haze he thought the lyrics were "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy".

I'm really digging the new 19+ minute song from The Decemberists

They're closing their show with this song on the current tour. Can't wait to see it later this summer.

Aquilus is a one-man symphonic black metal artist out of Australia. He creates these absolutely stunning symphonic works, blending sweeping classical orchestration and raw, harsh metal.

His third release, Bellum II, came out this week and is just as grandiose and beautiful as the first two. It's an amazing musical journey that takes you from epic string sections that could be straight out of the LOTR soundtrack one moment, then seamlessly transitions into brutal blastbeats and harsh vocals the next. When done well (which it absolutely is done here) it's one of my favorite blends of musical styles

The full album is on YouTube. It mostly flows as a singular piece, but is broken up into "tracks" at certain points. My favorite starts at 11:30 with "Nigh To Her Gloam". The beginning guitar and strings are just so damn beautiful.

Earworms incoming. This band is taking off right now and new album lands Friday. Will be an insta-buy for me. Also good to see an NC band becoming successful.

I was only 9 when this one was recorded.

I did get to see them once, and it was such a great show. Ian Anderson is a presence on stage.
