Myrkur's new song is stunningly beautiful. I've been listening to it on repeat all morning.

Her entire upcoming album is supposedly based around Norwegian folk songs...can't wait.

Paul English passed away last week. After hearing stories of him and Willie Nelson over the weekend, I forgot that Willie was more than a dope smoking grandpa, he was an outlaw.

Paul English was known to carry three pistols on him at all times, even when he was on-stage drumming.

He was Willie's money man and collected the band's wages at the end of the night from the promoter or club owner.

Someone mentioned Red Handed Denial, which might be up some of the alley of our resident metalheads.

Not my thing (felt a little to nu metal-y for my tastes), but those more into female vocals may enjoy it.

I'm digging the new Godthrymm album. A few ex-My Dying Bride folks, a similar grim, doom aesthetic.

I don't know what my favourite Skinny Puppy song is, so I'll just cheat:

How have I never heard of Manilla Road? This is amazing heavy metal:

Further confusing evidence metalcore is occasionally good:

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

This one has always been my favorite.

Martin Mendez (Opeth bassist) has a new death metal side-project called White Stones. Album out in March, but I'm really digging this new tune.

I'm a little less excited about Aether Realm's new single that dropped today. Cheesy metal has a tendency to grow on my though after initial bad impressions (see Ghost's "Dance Macabre" as Exhibit A). If nothing else, "Redneck Vikings From Hell" is a great title for their new album.

Random youtube recommendation pointed me to:

I know she collaborated with Postmodern Jukebox back in the day -- looks like she's branched out on her own.
I forgot to call it "a box of pure malevolent evil, a purveyor of
insidious insanity, an eldritch manifestation that would make Bill
Gates let out a low whistle of admiration," but it's all those, too.

No news of a new SP album, sadly. :(

We're likely to get a new Ohgr record this year though. He's been teasing a bunch of new clips on social media.

I heard this song listening to Verge (Canadian alt music) on satellite radio the other day and I was intrigued by the lead singer Tom Waits style. I think they deserve more attention.

Pantera’s “Walk” as a country song.

I dig it.

If a jam is enough of a jam it transcends genres.

And then to find out they are not American adds even more interest.

Makes me want to bust out my Red Army Choir albums. Holy cow, I just read 63 of their modern-day ensemble died in a 2016 plane crash.

I agree, I liked this first album from them a lot when it came out. I like the later stuff too but I liked this dreamy period.

I saw this tour. It was Smashing Pumpkins then Pearl Jam and then Chili Peppers. On campus at Michigan State. Opening bands were pretty unknown.

My wife and I were dicking around outside, probably drinking, sneaking around and we found an open back door to the venue. We just kept walking in further and further and ended up deep backstage where a dude just pointed to a door for us and we walked right out into the floor section.

We had tix but didn't even get them ripped! Prolly could have touched Anthony Kiedis' hair if I had navigated the backstage maze better.

Oh, btw, we've touched Anthony Kiedis' hair plenty of times since then.
