Which $10 game should I buy?
I have a $10 Amazon coupon and thought I'd pick up something. Discuss.
Edit to include gaming taste:
I like all sorts of games, but I must say I am a pretty lousy gamer - I am much better at slower paced games where I can stop and think about my next move. I really want to play Starcraft, for example, but I just am no good at it and always get frustrated during the human campaign. I don't play online shooters because it's really not fun getting killed every 2 seconds. And I'm only 31? I got the shaft on reflexes, apparently. Truthfully, my favorite game genre is probably console platformers

I have played all of those except Sim City 3000, and for me, MDK2 was a disappointment (I played it LONG after it was released though, which I think has a lot to do with it).
BGII...pure gold, Longest Journey, awesome, Jagged Alliance 2...amazing.
I would go with one of those 3, but they are SO completely different, depends on if you prefer RPG, turn based strat, or adventure! Personally, I would go with JA2, followed closedly by BGII (since you are still playing I).

You know what BG2 is if you are playing BG1.
MDK2 was a fantastic third-person platformer/shooter - sort of - it was unique.
My vote, though, went to Jagged Alliance II, mainly because of this: " I am much better at slower paced games where I can stop and think about my next move." You are never hurried in JA2 - you can think all day long about your next move. Just make sure that graphics aren't a vital thing for you.

definitely BG2...one of my favorite games of all time. i played it through without having tried the original BG and it didn't really matter. they do a pretty job of recapping some of the major situations/events from the first game, and the rest of the things you miss don't take away from the experience. it's a great game on its own and well worth the $50 i paid for it...at only $10, it's a steal 8)

I'd have voted BG 2, but:
1) I expected it to get a hell of a lot of advocacy from other people anyway;
2) It's not always amenable to the slow-paced gamer (although the "autopause every turn" is supposed to mitigate this somewhat, I myself found it a poor substitute for a genuine turn based system, and so elected to play it real time with-frequent-manual-pausing. It's awesome, but at times hectic and difficult.)
3) I really strongly feel that you should finish BG 1 first. Not that BG 2 would be hard to understand without BG 1's backstory, but i think having finished it does enhance your experience with the sequel.
So instead I went for The Longest Journey, which is as slow paced as you please, and utter genius. But I can just tell it's gonna lose hard in this poll.

Well, I wound up finding BGII for $7 shipped with box, manual and caboodle on ebay. Who knows when I will actually play it, however as I am currently playing Hidden & Dangerous and Deus Ex, plus I have to go back and play BGI first anyway. With my coupon, I think I will go ahead and get The Longest Journey. I've kind of wanted it for a while, so that seems to be a good idea. As for Jagged Alliance 2, I definitely want to pick it up someday as well. Perhaps I should find a job
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Sim City 3000
If you like to take your time, then this game certainly fits that criteria. Maxis went over the edge with SC 4000, so in my book the last good one was SC 3000. The beauty of the Sim City game is the replayability. Once you build a decent city you want to build another one. I've had a SimCity game on my computer for probably the last 10 years.

The Longest Jouney: The Longest Conversations is more like it. I dozed off during one speech.
Age of Empires Gold: Well, if it's 2 and you just forgot to put the 2 in the title I'd say go for it, but if it's the first then get the 2nd, or even better get Rise of Nations Gold.
Baldurs Gate 2: I voted for this one. Great game.
Simcity 300: meh, if you're into micromanaging I guess this could be for you.
Jagged Alliance 2: I hate turnbased. That is all.
MDK2: Never played it.

BG2.
I am the poster child for "finishing BG1 not required to enjoy BG2."

I voted MDK2 because you said your favorite genre was console platformer, and this is about the closest you'll find. It's a really, really fun game (by Bioware, too!) with great art direction, and it's not too difficult to play, and on top of that, it's so much fun!

Running around launching atomic toast at the bad guys is good stuff. This game kept me involved from start to finish. For your stated tastes in gaming this is a perfect fit.Eel Snave wrote:I voted MDK2 because you said your favorite genre was console platformer, and this is about the closest you'll find. I mean, building a leaf blower to push aliens over to a giant plant that will eat them? How can you not like that?

I voted for BG2. It is basically a series of mini games based around a theme.
The mini games provide variety and iterest and don't have a fed-ex feel.
For example one quest calls on your investigative skills to solve a series of grisly murders, another calls on your tactical skills to assault a fully defended castle, another your search skills. It goes on like that the whole game. Very satisfying and non repetitive.
Some of the other games are good too, but this is my choice.
