Official Octopus Overlords Election Game Day Thread (tm)

Post by triggercut »

We needed one, so here it is. Feel free to contribute stuff you see in the various media.

If you can, try to attribute ("I saw this on FOX News" or "I heard this on NPR" or "this is posted at Instapundit...").

Let's keep it civil; at the end of the day, we're (most of us) on the same team. Now let's watch this unfold, shall we?

:D Kinda strange how we both posted pretty much not only the same thread, but also the same instructions, huh? (re: attributions, etc.)

From Race 2004:
It's now after 6pm eastern. Polls have begun closing in parts of Indiana and Kentucky. Neither state will be called until after 7pm when the remainder of the states close.

So let me be the first: "Kentucky and Indiana are officially going for George W. Bush. George Bush now leads the electoral race with 19 electoral votes."

First question:

The polls "close" in NH, KY, IN, VA, GA, SC, and VT at 7:00 EST.

If you're standing in line when they close, I assume you get to vote. That's a good rule.

Now then: will the networks begin to relay results while people might be standing in line? I don't think it'll be that major in any of the 7:00 states, but when we get to OH, PA, and FL, it sure could be. Estimates in OH are that people will be standing in line to vote almost until 10:00....

Well, after last election, it's not that strange. ;)

Thanks guys. This'll make Mr. NoTV (i.e., me) have an easier time of it tonight. I just want you to know we're all counting on you.

I think that's the rule, but I seem to remember that last election, people were turned away after a certain time in some states.

I expect for the battleground states that are close, it'll take an hour or two before they call (maybe even longer just to be extra cautious this time).

Watch Ohio and Florida closely. These states could determine the outcome of the election. Also, carrots are orange.

AOL Exit Poll Favors Bush

A reader points out that as of about 5:50 p.m., the AOL online exit poll has about 371,000 votes at 57-41 for Bush. The AOL poll is, of course, completely unscientific, but is it any less so than the exit polls whose numbers are flying around the web?
From www.powerlineblog.com

The phrase "clutching to straws" comes to mind.

VT for Kerry, others should go for Bush. VA is the one to watch. If the networks can't declare that one early on, it could mean some trouble for the Pres and validate some of the exit polls.

I am thinking based on late trends that VA might actually go Kerry-it will be interesting to watch.

NBC and others reporting the expected results from 4 states.

IN, KY, and GA are Bush. 34 total EV.

VT is Kerry. 3 EV.

Conspicuous by their immediate absence: VA and SC.

Another great Electoral Map, a bit more detail than the BBC one, in fact you can go right down to precinct level:

Here's the night's first bombshell: 10,000 absentee ballots in Philadelphia will not be counted until 9:30 tomorrow. A circuit judge upheld a Republican challenge that said the GOP didn't get an accurate list of absentee voters so they could challenge.

Federal judge to review, and both sides will start counting tomorrow AM.

Philadelphia has a 5-1 ratio of Democrats to Republicans.

This may keep them from calling PA until tomorrow....

CNN: all states projected as expected except SC and VA

NBC: Philly(?) absentee ballets wont be counted until tomorrow 9:30am

NBC: SC and VA too close to be called.

NBC:Republicans pick up senate seat in GA.

NBC: "SC to *early* to call, VA to *close* to call."

Presumably, good news for the challenger.

It's amazing to me how states can be called with only 2% of precincts reporting. Not arguing with that, just find it fascinating.

Sorry, I'll shut up now

GA senate seat was Zell Miller's.

Talk about "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." At least now the Republican from the Peach state will be, well, a Republican.

Exit polls had Bunning +4.
