Absentee Ballots missing in Florida
It seems like every day, there are a few stories about mishandled ballots or ripped/fradulant voter registrations. The teams of lawyers amassed for both sides makes me worry that we're going to see some horrible stuff in the courts, delaying the results for a long long time.
But, the way people are so riled up about Bush and Kerry makes me wonder if the election will go off peacefully. There's trouble brewing.
Do you think it will turn violent? And I don't mean coup-de-tat or military Junta, I mean riots.

No, I don't think so. As long as it doesn't pre-empt our TV shows, few people pay it that much attention. Barely half of us can even be bothered to vote in the first place.

I am more concerned that terror attacks will disrupt an already-confused election sufficiently to invalidate the results, ushering in a long power struggle culminating in an appointed president (or one who refuses to relinquish power). If Al Qaeda has the capability to strike, this sure seems like the right time for it.

I hope that, a week from now, the idea will rank with the Y2K apocalypse in overblown silliness. Until then, I'm uneasy.

There won't be riots, but I expect that there will be some fistfights at polling places. These will be blown all out of proportion in the media because they will make a great story.

Dr. Peter Venkman : This election is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Voter : What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr. Raymond Stantz : What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Voter, real wrath-of-God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman : Exactly.
Dr. Raymond Stantz : Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Dr. Egon Spengler : Four years of darkness. Hurricanes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore : The dead rising from the grave.
Dr. Peter Venkman : Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

What future guy? Nostradamus? I don't remember them every saying he predicted American Civil War? The last thing I remember they said he predicted was WWIII according Orsen Wells.

Oh and to this thread:
Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.

On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath the stone,
And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they'd kill.

Came an answer from the kingdom,
"With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
All the riches buried there."

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

Now the valley cried with anger,
"Mount your horses! Draw your sword!"
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.

Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

I was talking about this guy from the internet named John Titor. Do a google search for him. its some pretty interesting stuff. Basicly the guy claims to be from the future. One of his many predictions is that this election will spark a civil war in america, and that its a prelude to ww3 and nucular winter. He says you will know its happening when we start to witness waco/branch dividian style confrontations every month untill all out war breaks out. Definatly some hack on the net, but he is one of those guys, that rings kind of scary even tho you dont belive it.

John Titor is great, the lengths this guy had to go to in order to frabricate a story as good as he did is truely admirable.

Here are my three favorite quotes of his, both from 2000.

"It is a mistake to give anyone your unwavering belief...but you will find that out yourself in 2005."

"While you sit by and watch your Constitution being torn away from you, you willfully eat poisoned food, buy manufactured products no one needs and turn an uncaring eye away from millions of people suffering and dying all around you. Is this the "Universal Law" you subscribe to?"

"Perhaps I should let you all in on a little secret. No one likes you in the future. This time period is looked at as being full of lazy, self-centered, civically ignorant sheep. Perhaps you should be less concerned about me and more concerned about that."

Good spelling is for the almost intelligent. It's for people who study hard while the truly intelligent are leaping ahead to grasp concepts. Good spelling is for the process oriented while the truly intelligent are goal oriented.

I haven't had a good riot in a while.

I'm camping out for this one!

It's funny, my lovely wife (from Mexico) is disgusted by the corruption in her country, as are most, seemingly, but here we just kind of shrug and say "meh."

Plus, though, do we really want ballots in the hands of Floridians? :)

Um... Absentee ballots in Florida. Wouldn't they tend to be military, and tend to be Bush supporters? I seem to remember Gore wanting -all- absentee ballots being thrown out last time.

If anything, this seems much more likely to be a plot by the Democrats.

From the linked article in the alpha post of this thread:
Authorities are investigating the apparent loss of 58,000 absentee forms in Broward County while officials have said replacements are being sent out.

...

In 2000, Broward gave Al Gore his biggest margin among Florida counties. He won 67% of the vote there, while losing the state to George W Bush by 537 votes.

This isn't a partisan issue. It is an issue affecting a lot of the country. Here in Colorado, 13,000 ballots went missing. There is fraud in Nevada, fraud in Oregon, fraud everywhere. It takes about 5 minutes to hack the new election machines.
Things are fucked, and it has nothing to do with Dems vs/ Reps.

And Grifman, the 1 party argument can be used to describe US politics. "2 parties for 150 years? "

Wurd. It's the same with basic grammar, boarderline literacy, minimal hygiene, using utensils, walking upright, and not drooling on onesself.

No, just spelling.

But I have some thoughts about bloggers and their need for attention also. Don't get me started.

What's the basis for the line between spelling and grammar, higher-intellectual-plane-wise?
bloggers and their need for attention
I'm pretty sure that's some sort of quasi-tautology, like "Kelric and his need to pad."

None, really. But then just about everyone abandons good grammar by the time college is done. Truthfully, I glossed over the grammar part to get to the hygiene part.

Reading comprehension comments at this point would be somewhat obvious.
