Pacific Drive - Open World Driving Horror Game?

Anyone have any thoughts on the upcoming Pacific Drive?

It bills itself as an open world horror driving game, which seems like the kind of combo I might like. The trailer makes it seem like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the driving game.

It involves traveling around in a station wagon, so I'm definitely interested. Saw it mentioned a few weeks ago and the trailer looked intriguing.

Don't really know much about it, but I'm following along.

Hmmmm.... You had me a STALKER. :D

Though, to be fair, I'm not getting exactly that vibe. But I can see where it's coming from. It does look interesting.

It seems like the station wagon is more a mobile base and that you can get out of it and explore. But I could be wrong.

I'm sure you are right, if for nothing else but to find things to put into the station wagon.

Someone should redub that trailer with Holiday Road :D

More in depth video chock full of early game spoilers. It does provide a look at the gameplay, if you can tolerate his incessant yammering.

Nice to see camera sway while walking around...will need to verify that's something I can toggle off. :?

 I would kill to have the game give me the ability to toss Rusty out of the car while moving at a high speed.

And yeah, that's the video that drew my attention to it above.

Nice, thanks!

Gives me a little Subnautica vibe in that video. The way you research and build up your vehicle especially. I like it. Although I can’t decide if the level of detail given to prepping your auto to go out on each run is cool or tedious. I’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I did my own dub by watching the trailer without sound and playing Holiday Road on another tab. 8-)

How 'driving survival game' Pacific Drive is being built for people who don't like survival games
"I've been working on survival games for quite a while," says Seth Rosen as we chat over Zoom. "Funnily enough, I don't like them."

That is pretty funny, because Rosen was technical designer for Klei Entertainment's Don't Starve: Reign of Giants and project lead for Don't Starve Together, eternally one of the most popular games on Steam. Now he's game director at Ironwood Studios, working on first-person driving survival game Pacific Drive, which launches on February 22. That's a lot of survival for someone who doesn't like survival.

But it becomes clear during our chat that it's actually just certain aspects of survival games Rosen doesn't care for, and he's doing his best to avoid them in his new game.

In Pacific Drive you find yourself stranded in the Olympic Exclusion Zone, a walled-off portion of the Pacific Northwest where the government's shady experiments went horribly wrong. Now the winding roads and dark woods are filled with so many dangerous anomalies it makes Stalker's exclusion zone feel like a stroll through Dreamlight Valley. The only way to escape is by driving a quirky customizable station wagon deeper and deeper into the zone, collecting resources along the way to upgrade and outfit your car with sci-fi gizmos and gadgets.

"Honestly, a lot of my pet design things that we put into Pacific Drive were aimed at smoothing out the things that really bugged me about survival games," Rosen says. "Inevitably there is a little bit of a resource grind, but I wanted to make sure that, especially given how much of a focus we have on driving, the survival aspects of the game don't take too much away from that. The heart of the game is the car, and driving it, and taking care of it. And the survival crafting stuff is there to support that."

Why does it seem so much stuff coming out now days has to have horror attached to it? Is it the new fad in gaming?

Horror was just invented about 6 years ago, so let the newness of it fade a bit. I’m sure it’s just a passing fad. Then we can get back to your favorite genre. Amish romance sims.

There are quite a few Amish around here. Truth be told, some do use tractors. There are many subgroups within the Amish, and different groups have different rules.

Can you get a screenshot of the moment in Witness when one of the Amish drives a tractor? :snooty:

Also, what Amish romance sims would you recommend, given your extensive knowledge of the group? And if you point me towards one that has a genital size slider instead of a beard size slider, I'm going to cry foul. Bonus if the butter churning isn't just another button mashing thing.

...shit, now I want an Amish themed Conan Exiles. :(

Edit: Okay, so having AI generate an image of "an Amish version of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian" results in

and I have questions.

What's with the helicopter in the background? I don't remember Conan ever piloting rotorcraft in any of the books. Was this retconned in at some point? And I find it highly unlikely that outside the Amish Resistance Force, there are such things in THAT community either (but to be fair, I'll reserve stating that as a fact until after Blackhawk has had a chance to check in with every Amish faction in his area). And why is the woman on the right wielding what appears to be a buggy wheel?

The eagle I can see. Amish often use eagles to scout ahead for enemies.

...but I digest...er...digress.

She is wielding the power of angular momentum. You kinda have to imagine the wheel spinning.

I’m fascinated by the woman on horseback wielding a wagon wheel? Spinning wheel?

I just struggle to understand why the keywords "conan the barbarian" and "amish" would result in a helicopter being added. This supports my theory that AI isn't real. It's just Issie screwing with the world.
