I had just read Michio Kaku's book, Quantum Supremacy, and that made this book more understandable as it does deal with quantum theory. I highly recommend going this route.

not only do they blow through the first book (in record time) in this first series, they get a good start on the second and include a portion of the third...
Spoiler:
i don't think the second book is going to endear you to this series. i'm also of the opinion that aside from a few interesting ideas, the story itself was not interesting, the characterization one-dimensional (if that) and the dialog horrific. yeah, was not a fan. so i figured this adaptation couldn't do worse...

A series, but since it is on netflix, better wait until they completed the whole series before start watching. They're known to cancel fantasy/sci-fi series after 1-2 seasons.

related to my post above: but if all one cares about is the first book (and i know a number of people that read the first one and not the rest of the series), then that's already been covered and completed in this first season.

if one wants the excruciatingly long adaptation, go with the Chinese TV series

Just finished this last night and really enjoyed it. Didn't read the books and had no idea what it was about. Didn't have any problems following the story or the premise, though it did require full attention given some of the subtle elements or discussions that explained what was happening. I don't know if I'll read the books, but I definitely want to see more of this show.

We're two episodes from the end and enjoying it a lot. Smartly written, creative take on an old sf trope. It took me a while to draw the lines between the 1970s characters and their current selves, but I did sort it out. I'm often slow in that regard.

I had given up on it after two episodes because a few folks seemed to say it wasn't worth it. But it sounds like I should give it a go after all.

Mildly worth staying to the end, but often seems like a plot in search of a movie.

Netflix added a line to the menu screen saying it's officially renewed for a second season.

I'd say so, yeah. Plus it does have a rather spiritual/religious element to it as well (sorta) - which I thought made sense. Overall I thought it felt plausible, in terms of what might happen.
