Yeah, that pretty much tracked my experience. “Josh”. “Josh”. “JOSH”. I love Josh 95% of the time. I’m getting weary of the 5% of the time.
As I noted to my many Jets fan co-workers today, we really should have anticipated the outcome where we are both left sad as the most likely possibility.

I found this a fascinating look from ESPN at the backup QB lifestyle and how they cope.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
NY Jets blocked from signing desired QB target
The Jets were reportedly interested in signing former Denver Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien off the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, before he was signed to their active roster on Wednesday.
The Rams placed rookie QB Stetson Bennett on the NFI list on Wednesday, leaving Rypien as the only backup quarterback under contract. While Los Angeles considered just elevating Rypien from the practice squad for Week 2, they instead decided to sign him to their active roster.
This prevented the Jets from signing Rypien, and, per ESPN's Rich Cimini, the team is now in a "holding pattern." It seems as though Rypien might have been the Jets' preferred quarterback choice.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I'm sure they can do what the Bears did and trade a high first round draft pick to get him.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
That’s a weird way to describe what the Rams did. They can’t prevent Rypien from being signed by the Jets. Players on the practice squad are free agents, able to sign to any 53-man roster.
If Rypien signed to the Rams 53, it’s because he chose to do that. He did it (after they offered it), not the Rams.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
? seems like a pretty innocuous way of describing it.
By signing him to their active roster, the Rams took Rypien off the menu.
I realize Rypien also took himself off the menu, but he clearly needed the offer before he could do that.
Unless you are saying that there was no way Rypien would have ever signed with the Jets, either way, and that the Rams thing has nothing to do with that.
Charlie asked Jenny to the dance and she said 'Yes', blocking John from asking her to the dance. I assume you are saying Jenny would have never gone to the dance with John?
(sorry, I have an analogy addiction)

I just meant that the Rams can't block a practice squad player from signing elsewhere. If he wanted to sign with the Jets, he would have.

I feel really bad for the Jets fans. I was thinking maybe the young kid will come out and prove them all wrong. And then no no he didn't. Their season is toast.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
Honestly semi-shocked that they reversed the call at the end of the Patriots - Dolphins game. On balance *probably* the correct call, but given that the call went the Patriots way to begin with, I don't see how the evidence was indisputable or whatever the standard is. Also the game ending is a lot more fun if they don't!

The Jets scored 10 more points against the Cowboys and held them to 10 fewer points than the Giants did last week.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
I think the Bears might actually be worse this year than they were last year. They were, of course, terrible last year, but they were amusingly terrible. We can drop the amusingly modifier this year so far.
That goes back to my general distaste for replay, though. Replay is great for fixing obvious blunders. If it's close, though, just let it stand. Stop bogging down the games with excessively long replays where people aren't even going to agree on the end result.
Like all good Americans, I harbor a healthy dislike for the Patriots and Bill Belicheck (even if I do still like Brady because of his Michigan ties). Still, I was hoping they'd let that stand. That was a fun play! The fun factor should give them the edge there.El Guapo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 11:29 pm Honestly semi-shocked that they reversed the call at the end of the Patriots - Dolphins game. 100% agree. I mean obviously I'm biased, but I feel like if you took a vote among viewers "let the call stand" would win an overwhelming majority.ImLawBoy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 9:17 am I think the Bears might actually be worse this year than they were last year. 49ers swarmed SoFi stadium otherwise known as Levi South.
It wasn't a pretty game, but it was a battle. Turnovers killed the rams like usual. Their rookie WR is pretty good.

Re: NFL 2023 Regular Season
I don’t know if that game was wildly entertaining or just horrible. The defenses played lights out, but even then there were some big time injuries. And a pretty clear DPI on the last play of the game.
I’m glad the steelers won, but that did not fill me with hope for the future.
