I thought ya did, lol.
Anyways... I got 2 options: 1) Take my prone to insanity derrier and fight 2 monsters and have a very valid risk of insanity, or run to a random location and hope something exciting happens.

For some reason I was thinking you were saying either of the other two monsters in the street not "2 monsters".
I think you should go after one of the other street walkers.

All right, let's see how many lucky rolls I can get.
Not changing any of my stats.
Moving to Southside streets to fight the Shoggoth. Using the Powder of Ibn-Ghazi to fight, assuming that I don't get arrested or go insane.

Semaj - wouldn't it be better to stay in the streets and take a shot at one of the flying creatures? (Yes, I know there are three *if's* that would have to happen before you actually get your shot - but we have to get rid of as many monsters as possible, don't we?)Semaj wrote:Meh, send me to the newspaper I guess... Map of Arkham- On movement phase, exhaust for 1 extra movement point. $2
Rifle- (2 hands, physical weapon) +5 to combat $6
Obsidian Statue- Discard to cancel all stamina or sanity loss being dealt to you from one source. $4
This sale will exist throughout this turn so that everyone has a chance to actually notice this post

I'll submit interest in the rifle if no one else has a pressing need and the cash. I'd also be willing to hand off the sword if I get the rifle.
semaj and Scoop are the only others that can afford it, and they seem to have better fighting stuff than I do at the moment.

Some claim to know more than they ever will.
I don't claim anything, because no one would believe the truth anyways.

Yes, the map is reusable. So right now we have the following interest expressed:Semaj wrote:The map is a reusable resource right?
.18 Derringer
Map of Arkham: Remus
Rifle: Isgrimnur
Obsidian Statue: Scoop
No one gets anything until Docd gets a chance to weigh in on things as he's the one at the sale
That and I'm waiting on one combat decision from Remus and then we're good to go.

Re: Arkham Horror-Turn 4 Mythos. The Mythos Strikes Back
TURN 5 ENCOUNTERS
Upkeep rolls:
stessier: Blessing-2; success! Retainer-no roll needed on first upkeep. + $2
DocD:
The Curiositie Shoppe is having a sidewalk sale! Looks like they're trying to clear out some of their "non-curiouse" merchandise, though there is a glittery black statue that seems to have been slipped in with the mundane stuff. Hmmm. This might be a good chance to pick up a few things for the handful of others around town that seem to be trying to keep Arkham in one piece...
Current Sale status:
.18 Derringer (1 hand, physical weapon) +2 combat. Cannot be lost or stolen unless owner allows it. $3: No takers
Map of Arkham- On movement phase, exhaust for 1 extra movement point. $2: Remus West
Rifle- (2 hands, physical weapon) +5 to combat $6: Isgrimnur
Obsidian Statue- Discard to cancel all stamina or sanity loss being dealt to you from one source. $4: Scoop
If you change your mind or haven't placed a request and want to, now's the time. Next Upkeep all sales will become final.
Chaosraven:
From between the trees rises a massive shape. It has a pulpy gray-black, elongated sack of a body in the shape of a massive worm, its face a wreath of flowing tentacles surrounding a cluster of bulging eyes and an orifice of jagged teeth. The ground trembles as it moves. Almost without thinking you swing your brand new extra-dimensional Tommy gun to bear and empty a drum in its direction. Though each individual round seems to have little effect the overwhelming volley of lead ultimately shreds the horrid thing into quivering chunks.
You sink down against a nearby tree and make short work of your bottle of whiskey, each swallow wrapping the memory of that hideous thing with a little bit more gauzy oblivion.
(Portions of this description cheerfully stolen from: —Brian Lumley, The Burrowers Beneath)
Chthonian: -2 san, 2 san damage, -3 combat, 3 stam damage, 3 toughness
(San roll: 2. Fail)
combat: tommy gun +6 fight +1, chtonian -3=4 dice. 6,6,5,5; 4 successes out of 3 needed!
discard whiskey, san loss mitigated by whiskey -1, gain monster trophy; Chthonian 3 points)
Stessier:
You crawl beneath a great stone table that looks to run the entire length of the massive hall. It's a long way to crawl but having the massive slab of stone between you and the demonic things lurking high above provides a great deal of comfort. What's this? Looks like someone dropped a book down here. The layer of dust on it seems to indicate that it's been forgotten down here for a very long time. You tuck it into your robes and crawl on. Looks like the end of the Great Hall is just a few hundred yards ahead.
(pass a luck-2 roll; 6,3,2 success.)
Gain Cabala of Saboth
Semaj:
Still stinging from having lost your pay for the article you wrote you make your way back to Editor Doyle's office.
"You know, if you liked that last article, there's a lot more where that came from. I already have some story ideas about the Silver Twilight Lodge here in town and even one about that damned rock you guys have in Independence Square. Whattya say?"
Doyle thinks for a minute and then gives a nod.
"Arkham readers do indeed seem to enjoy tales of the strange," he says.
(Gain retainer)
Isgrimnur:
You continue through this strange place and find yourself crossing a a huge stone bridge across a black void. Massive stone arches rear overhead. Halfway across you hear a great grumbling crack above your head and look up to see a half dozen chunks of stone the size of trolley cars dropping towards you. You sprint forward in terror, frantically dodging as they crash to the bridge around you filling the air with shards of shattered rock.
That was way, way too close.

Scoop20906:
You round a corner of the labyrinth and there before you you see a shimmering gate just like the one the brought you to this awful place. You stand stunned for a moment, wondering if it's some sort of hallucination, too good to be true. It seems you've been wandering here for years and now, at last, the escape lies before you. You fling yourself through the gate and find yourself back in the dampness of the Black Cave. The gate flickers out behind you. There does, however, seem to be something between you and the mouth of the cave...
gate roll (fight): 6,1,1 success!
(gain gate trophy. Remove all monsters with square icon: none)
Remus West:
In the middle of the street you see a pool of a sort of viscous and semi-liquescent substance, quite opaque and of a sooty color. The center swells as if with the action of some powerful yeast and an uncouth amorphous head with dull and bulging eyes arises gradually on an ever-lengthening neck . Then two arms — if one could call them arms — likewise arise inch by inch, and you see that the thing is not a creature immersed in the liquid, but that the liquid itself has put forth this hideous neck and head, and it is now forming arms that grope toward you with tentacle-like appendages in lieu of claws or hands! Then the whole mass of the dark fluid begins to rise and pour forward like a torrent of black quicksilver, taking an undulant ophidian form which immediately develops more than a dozen short legs.
You thrust your sword into the thing and the liquid bubbles and boils around it. With a great Professorly war scream you began flailing the sword back and forth through the liquid mass until it disperses into pools of goo that shake and jitter like blobs of gelatin.

Lars:
It is a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train – a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and unforming as pustules of greenish light . Your mind reels. The Tommy gun ain't going to cut it here. Time to see if that powder was worth the lettuce. You fling it at the thing at it pulls itself up into a writhing twisting column of eyeballs and screaming mouths. The powder is like salt on a slug. The thing shakes and foams and shrieks hideously before collapsing into an inert protoplasmic mass.
"That was just a little too much," you think, and then your mind mercifully shuts down into the sweet blackness of oblivion.

Game Board After Turn 5 Encounters:
GM Commentary:
Nice round for you guys. 1 more gate closed and three of the nastier critters off of the board!
A note, particularly for newer players: Monster trophies and gate trophies can be "spent" at various locations on the board for some nifty stuff. Refer to the original game board linked in the first post or to the handy summary sheet located here for details. (downloadable .pdf)
A very important thing to consider, however, is that gate trophies also count towards one of the victory conditions. So every gate you spend gets you a nice bonus but knocks you that much further back from setting things right in Arkham...

Re: Arkham Horror-Turn 5 Encounters. Investigators kick boot
Scoop, how are you fixed for fighting? Should one of us come deal with the monster in your space or do you want it?
edit: looking at your character from the first post you have it as well as I could so I'm ruling me out for that task.

I'm gonna need some help getting off the Unvisited Isle. You still have a turn to get over there - just don't wander too far away.
Gryndyl, on the main board there is an arch with numbers on it. I think Number 1 used to be blacked out. Now it's now and from my reading of the rules, that counter never goes down. Am I (quite possibly) mistaken?
